Fantastic walk through, thanks! Really interesting about the cat5 runs, I'd love to see some figures on it too, just purely from a science point of view.

I loved the insights here, but would have loved to know more about how Cenzo is using the 500 modules at the bottom of the bus rack (under the Cartecs). Looks like the SSL saturator thing, a Level-Loc replica, and a VOG. I assume they go through one of the three mix buses, while the 33609s sit in the hardware inserts rack and aren’t used in the bus chains any more? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m curious as to the reason none of the rack gear is racked, but is instead just stacked on shelves with wood shims?

It does get juggled around a bit so that could be one possible answer but I will ask him and reply when I find out :-)

It doesn't matter. Cat5e will allow for 1Gbps ethernet at 100 meters max distance. Pretty much anything you buy these days will be Cat5e at the least. You don't need Cat6. It's overkill. Unless you plan on recording 256 tracks simultaneously at 192kHz / 24bit (Wav)? This would put you at just slightly over a gigabit; I think about 1.1248 Gbps off the top of my head.
Cat6 will give you around 55 meters (probably less) of 10Gbps ethernet. I have no idea why you'd need this but maybe you do I don't know. Cat6a will give you 100 meters of 10Gbps. Cat6 cables are a lot more inflexible though (bulky) and they're a bit more expensive. In my opinion completely unnecessary for any audio related work. Just as useless as 10Gbps ethernet.
Unless, as I say, you'll be recording 256 tracks at the same time at the highest available conversion rates. If your needs are not that extreme Cat5e probably is more than you'll ever need.

@@Screaming-Trees the topic is analog audio transmission, not bitrates

I don't know. The vibe is kind of sterile, mechanical, perfunctory. I mean c'mon, the dude is talking about his studio and his approach towards utilizing his equipment and the thing that seems to excite him the most are damn presets. 😕
