Man, their reaction to seeing God was fantastic! I totally forgot that actor was the Allstate guy, which made that moment with Calvin shouting "You're in good hands!! AAAHHHHH" even more delightful. :D
He is not "the All-State guy" its Dennis haysbert. He has been in many things for several decades
You sell yourself out to do commercials like that, you're that guy. Just like Terry Crews is the Old Spice guy. Not that there's anything wrong with making $$$

@@aaronwallace9644 I don't think doing commercials necessarily means you're selling yourself out. Unlike Terry Crews, Dennis Haysbert was not exactly a household name when he started doing the Allstate commercials, so I don't think it was a case of using mega fame to sell insurance. If anything, the commercials are what made him a household name.
I absolutely loved the casting of Dennis Haysbert as God. Not only does he naturally have the power to command a room with his voice alone but he carries himself as a man you don’t want to upset, in a disappointed parent kind of way.
Also when God said “Children, you know I hate it when you fight.” I could practically hear Uriel in the distance say “WELL WHERE THE FUCK WERE YOU WHEN I FOUGHT AND GOT KILLED BY MY BROTHER?!?!?!?”

Uriel disobeyed God by trying to kill both Chloe and the Goddess, so.... I mean, God wanted to destroy Lucifer for the rebellion. I'm pretty sure God would have done nothing when Uriel went rogue.
When I first saw this episode, I seriously feared for Ella's life in that scene where he was strangling her. They lingered on it long enough that I thought, "Oh my gosh, are they actually going to kill her off?" That was a scary scene. Poor Ella.
Yeah. Usually I’ll think, “eh, they’re not going to kill **insert popular character here** “ but for this one I was seriously concerned.
Last episode had Lucifer getting drugged and Chloe almost got killed by the copycat. Subconsciously he would have felt that he was limiting himself and putting Chloe in danger by making himself vulnerable.

I'm late but in the previous episode he talks about putting up walls/letting her get too close. He then starts feeling like he can't love because God can't love, and because of that he self actualized that he doesn't love her and is therefore not vulnerable anymore.
I know it's a bit dumb that Maze keeps betraying Lucifer but my headcanon is that ever since she came to Earth and started ''becoming a person'' she has been gradually getting emotions. Because emotions are new to her she overreacts every time she feels Lucifer abandons her and Lucifer doesn't know she's got these new feelings so he treats her as the demon she always was which is why it keeps happening.
We also get an explanation on why she went with Michael's plan, and she was understandably desperate to not be like her mother. Her character definitely improves after this episode.
I guess I understand why she reacts the way she does, but it gets tedious to watch.
Yeah, this is her what? 3rd time? Even the most minute emotional growth would’ve had her sit down for 3 fucking minutes and think it through, if we follow that logic, then she’s been emotionally stagnant for the entire series up to this point and is just as bad at handling emotions as season 1.
@@phoebusapollo8365 she has done the same thing lucifer has everytime he got a new emotion he never felt before, its just he had linda & chloe constantly there so he doesn't do the same things she does, maze went from thousands of years not feeling anything & lucifer being her whole world to all these emotions hitting her & lucifer constantly abandoning her for chloe & the only thing she ever known was torture so of course its gonna take her longer & she's gonna fall harder then lucifer cuz she doesn't have anybody focusing on her, its always about lucifer's feelings & needs & pushing her to the side, alot of the time tho its lucifer's fault why maze betrays him cuz he doesn't clear anything up with her like this time if he would've just seen she was upset instead of worrying about himself, he could've talk to her about her mother & why he couldn't tell her but no just like when he has a chance to say something to chloe he says the wrong thing or doesn't fully say what he means then she would've never sided with michael, he never told her till the made up that he promised her mom not to tell her & he was sorry, it was the first time he realized her wrong maze on his own & she's stayed on his side the rest of the series cuz of it
Self actualization. Genuine personal growth is only possible when you accept that genuine personal growth is possible. Maze views herself as "just a demon". As long as she believes demons can't grow and become more than a demon well, she makes it so she can't grow and be more than a demon. It's a kind of learned helplessness. She keeps falling back on the same harmful self destructive behaviors because she feels that's all she's capable of. We know she's growing but until that's pointed out to her she can't break the pattern because she just can't truly believe it's possible for her.

This was in fact the season 5a finale and then 5b released the year after. Out of all of lucifer 5b is probably my favourite season for personal reasons.

They also established that Charlie likes funny faces before they figured out he likes the devil face. Ella sais it some time before that.

They are so lucky we had to wait almost a year for episodes 9-16 they can just watch them now
One thing about Lucifer and Maze I just thought about is the fact that they spent much much more time together in hell than the time they have spent on earth so Lucifer might just be so used to seeing Maze as a demon so hes not used to seeing her as a more normal person. Of course in addition to the selfishness and focus on one specific thing.

I like how in this episode when Lucifer and Amenadiel are trying to hold down Michael, for a few seconds it looks like two normal siblings trying to gang up on the other one in a childish fight

I find it amusing that Dennis Haysbert is known as the All State guy. He will always be President David Palmer from _24_ to me.

Fun fact: Amenadiel (DB Woodside) and God (Dennis Haysbert) were both in FOX's 24, playing brothers. Both were presidents of the US in that show.
I like that Michael is a twin and his stick is lying because you can figure out from that the devil's title of King of Lies was started by Michael ruining Lucifer's reputation.

Gotta say, no idea what Allstate guy means (is it a US thing?). For me Dennis Haysbert will always be most known as President David Palmer on 24. Such a great character.
For a long time, he was the actor that the car insurance company called Allstate had hired to be their "spokesman" in their commercials, and that is how he was most recognized as, as more people saw him in those insurance commercials then they did in his normal acting roles

I don't think it would have ever been a thing if Michael had not gotten in her head. It would have just happened eventually. However it did pull out the insecurity that stills exists in Lucifer regarding his ability to love which is still interesting

Aimee told me at a con that they had to bump up that confrontation scene up several weeks in shooting. She had worked with Pete (Alexander Koch) before. So they did have that to go from.
I love how Rick mentioned Maze's betrayal being so overused. This one was very believable tho. Lucifer was very belittling of her recently.
I felt like this time Maze was the most justified out of all of the times that she does this. Lucifer was frustrating me so much in this episode and I can only imagine what Maze must have felt

Betraying Lucifer and hurting others are different things …. Maze is just as selfish as Lucifer but without the charisma which makes her character all the more unlikable …..

I remember being excited at Dennis Haysbert because of The Unit… Then remembered that Amanadiel and God were brothers in 24.
And the vulnerability thing, remember his being vulnerable almost got Chloe killed by a serial killer, so I think he subconsciously stopped making himself vulnerable to keep her safe.
And Charlie getting a cold… I took it as Angels self-actualise and Charlie identifies as a human baby. Human babies get colds.

Well, lucifer never said 'i love you', but he did tell chloe that eve wasn't his first love, but chloe was, which DOES mean that he loves her
I think they never thought this through while making the show, but technically he did tell her he loves her, and as a bonus he told her she was the first one
Also, at this point maze betraying lucifer over and over again just for her own goals became so old, i really wish they killed her character in season 2, or at least 3
