My late husband's auntie was a nun and she taught me how to press flowers. I loved going for walks with her to look for things to press. The first couple of books reminded me of her gentle nature and fondness for keeping things simple. Lovely books! Thank you so much, Kari. You're always such a font of inspiration for me 💗
Your book collection is very inspiring! I have taken lots of classes live & online with Seth Apter & cannot express how wonderful his teaching is. He also has lots of free demos on his Facebook page. Dina Wakley is also a great teacher. Thank you for bringing the other artists to my attention. I enjoy your videos and look forward to seeing your process.
Wow, Teri, I am very envious of those classes, I can imagine how great they must have been! Dina is great too, yes. Thank you for your lovely comment! 💗
I think it’s very useful to look at lots of different artists and their work and when you find something that appeals to really think about what it is about the piece that speaks to you. Make notes about what that is, because eventually you will have a unique list of all the things you really like and this will be the basis of your own style. Now I’ve said this, I’ll admit I don’t do it anywhere near often enough! Perhaps I should start a journal specifically for this purpose - an investigation into style… of sorts. 😊 So many things, so little time.
That is such great advice, Terri. I don't do it near enough nowadays, not since university anyway. I do think your idea of a journal to do that is a good one! Yes, all we need is more time! 😂💗
What a nice selection of collage books!! I have quite a few Somerset Studio magazines which have a lot of collages and techniques. Thanks for sharing your favorites Kari!!
Wonderful recommendations, Kari. I do have Dina Wakely's book and love it. I also like Somerset studio magazine and Artist Cafe. I'm going to check out these books as well. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks Marti, I love Somerset Studio magazine, but it is a bit pricey here. I haven't heard of Artist Cafe, will look into that one. I hope you manage to get some of these books, they are often available used at reasonable prices, I have found. 💗
Thanks so much for the recommendations, I love these videos because I get to take a glimpse of the inside of the books. I got a few books that you recommended last time, second hand on amazon. I love them. Thank you. :)
Thank you so much Elizabeth, I like to see more inside a book, too, especially these days now that proper bookshops are gone and those that remain hardly stock this sort of book anyway. Thanks for watching and for stopping by to leave a comment! 💗x
Thank you so much Kari, I really really enjoyed listening to you about this booms that are amazing. There are so very very clever and talented people out there. I’m just off to the craft room, I’m completing a birthday card for my best friend. And that has mixed media in it. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
Thanks Mags, I am so glad you enjoyed seeing the books, they are very inspiring. I hope your birthday card-making went well! Stay safe and well (and cool) too xxx😘
Thanks for sharing these books! I’ve got Art Journal Courage by Dina Wakeley, but I’ve not seen this other book. Loving the colours and things presented in the books in general! Especially Karen Cole - I’ll look her up, thank you!
They are great books, I love to see what other artists do, there is always something in them that sparks my imagination. They are great if you are feeling a bit stuck. 💗
Are you still doing a portrait every morning Kari? The last book by the way..... did you have to replace it after your last move? This was certainly a different video but well worth watching thank you 👍🙂
Thanks Toni, I don't do a portrait every day any more, the videos take up so much of my time. I think I got rid of the Kaleidoscope book quite a few years ago and this was Maz's copy. I am thinking of buying it again, though, LOL! 💗
