    Like this example, some of my long, albeit strong, horizontal branches are now stretched out to reach sunlight, and drooping into the path of the mower. Assuming no dead weight exists, is it futile to trim back to beneath the canopy? Would I just be best to trim back to leader/trunk (as it wouldn't thrive under the canopy)? Thanks for the video!

      Thanks for the question! It is common for large trees to reach out and hang down as they get bigger. It is recommended to either remove the entire branches that hand down or selectively reduce the branch lengths by carefully cutting the tip back to the next strong branch on the stem. Usually reducing the weight of the branches in this manner causes the branch to lift up. Its a bit hard to describe but I hope this is helpful.

      @@growercoach thank you for the response. The issue in my case is there are no laterals large enough to assume the terminal role (without risk of dieback or water sprouts) for a reduction cut to be successful. This is why I feel my only option is to remove entirely.

    Hello! Sir, how can I choose where to plant a london plane tree in my yard?

    • @growercoach
      @growercoach  3 года назад

      Anywhere that you have an area about 50ft x 50ft and that is about 15 to 20 ft from any concrete or pavement.

    What color do the leaves turn? Do they drop early or later?

    • @growercoach

      Good question. The leaves tend to hold on very late in the fall sometimes into early winter. The leaves try to turn yellow but often fall looking brown with some yellow. If you get a warm late fall they should be yellow.

    I’m probably the only one who came to this video solely to complain about this tree. It has little hairs on the leafs that go everywhere when they’re cut. My nasal‘s have been messed up for the past three days because of these trees. worst tree ever 0/10. Good video though

      Yes this is true, the leaves and seeds have fine hairs that are almost like fiberglass. some people react to it more than others. When we used to unload trucks full of these trees we would ware a face mask so we could breath. Im sure it deters pest insects. Still a good large, fast growing tree for large properties.
