My 17 years old MCS R53 is still running great, engine or TC is still quite too, or maybe because I’ve been used liqui moly ceratec /20K plus 5-40 full synthetic oil per 5K pathetically by myself since I owned The only issue I got was just replaced the old/OE idler pulley for the first time yesterday and twice drive belt and antifreeze coolant for 17 years ownership
Hi James. If it’s just the chain tensioner that you’re replacing - no, you don’t need to touch the timing. The chain itself will not leave the cogs/gears that it’s sitting on so the timing will remain in place. Do not start it without a chain tensioner because that can allow the chain the skip teeth. This device is essentially an oil pressured plunger that presses on the chain system to keep the chain under tension, thus not allowing it to break timing. Hope that helps. All the best. A
Hi stocko3ggt. Have you got a magnet handy or any magnetic type tools. You might be able to attract/coax it out that way. It shouldn’t be jammed on anything.
Hi I have never had a problem with my r53 .2004 . Until now.i did oil filter and oil change now there is a hell of a clattering noise . exactly what a bad tensioner sounds like. 80000 on clock .do you have any ideas .I've ordered one 30 pounds .I was thinking the oil filter was at fault .
Once it’s in and bolted back up. Start up. It’s oil pressure that activates it - so the engine needs to be running to bring that pressure up and push the little piston to tension the chain. 👍🏻
Hi I just done a oil change then this rattle happened. 80000 on clock . Is this normal .the car was running perfect before . The cheapest timing belt tensioner I can find is 78 pounds . Thanks
These things are hydraulically activated using the oil pressure - so logic would say you’re more likely to have an issue immediately after an oil change because they’ll be a momentary lack of pressure whilst the new oil circulates on the first rotations after. Check all the discount codes for Euro Car Parts and GSF Car Parts - you might find they’ll bring the price down a bit. Otherwise it’s also worth giving Mini main dealers a call, the general consensus is that their version is the best one to use anyway. Be careful with it now it’s rattling though, you’ll have less tension on your chain and that could cause bigger issues if it skips a tooth. 🙏🏼👍🏻

Torque spec is 63 Nm
Thanks. I need to change mine, today started to sound as a tractor.
@@vasme973 you can do it! Hope it solves the sound
Gracias por el vídeo me suena la cadena , cambiare el tensor a ver qué tal me funciona
@@Que_es_ser_feliz sorry. I don’t understand (Spanish I believe?) and RUclips isn’t translating. But I hope the video helped. 😁👍🏻
Does the timing or anything need to be adjusted after this is changed? Is it just a simple remove and replace?

Oh - and RE: simple… yes, but it’s f’n tight and awkward. With those exceptions, yes… simple 😂💪🏼
@@antiviii2261 thanks. My car will be in service mode (SC replacement) so access should be easier?
My tensioner won't come out. The plastic end came off and I'm lost on how to remove it. Any advice?

check the drain back plunger inside the oil filter housing.
if it's broken, you can get a replacement from outmotoring
Simply start the engine after installation or do you have to turn the crankshaft by hand

Simples! THANKS
