Fishing for late season White Musselcrackers of Algoa Bay

A relatively short and sweet episode for a short and sweet February. In this episode we give a proper welcome to the White Musselcracker (aka Brusher). Even though this mission fell just outside their prime season we still managed to find some decent specimens, but it is tough work. Being such beautiful and strong fighting fish it's no surprised that they are one of the four most targeted species in the Algoa Bay area. This episode is very fact-filled. Not only do we do a "creature feature" on saddlebacks (aka armadillos) but we also talk about the family of fish called Sparids, how Musselcrackers breed, how they age and what we know about their conservation status. What do you guys do if you catch a fish that is ALREADY TAGGED?

Great question, the tag has a phone number and an email address on it in addition to the tag number. The tag number starts with an 'A' or a 'D' and followed with 6 digits. You can either directly contact the phone number or email OR you can visit www.oritag.org.za/Recapture and enter the info online. The info required is the tag number, where you caught it, what date you caught it, the length if you measured it and your contact info. They quickly respond with all the information to both you and the person who originally tagged it.
