Nice to see this as pinned comment. I was just coming to let you know. You got the name of the new one but showed the old one. And the preview one you showed is what they hope to build if they stop getting passed over for MLS expansion :) But glad to see you already know.
Came here to let you know that you showed the old stadium, but you’re on top of it already. Well done. No harm done as the new stadium just opened in May 2021 when this video released. Now just to make them a MLS expansion team...
Lynn Family Stadium has raised the bar for all of the other teams throughout the USL. The area around the stadium needs development, but the stadium itself is super nice. Also, if you are driving in downtown Louisville on Interstate 65 North, and you get on what locals call Spaghetti Junction (because I-65, I-71 and I-64 come together), after you take the exit to I-71 East the stadium will just pop up out of nowhere; you'll see from the open end into the stadium itself.
Weidner Field just completed its first season and it was magnificent. A beautiful stadium right in Downtown Colorado Springs near the US Olympic Museum. First class facility.
I've been to Al Lang Stadium for a Rowdies game. As mentioned, it was built as a baseball stadium and hosted spring training for decades. However, the stadium is still in good condition and the atmosphere was great for the soccer game I attended. Also, if you stay at a hotel in downtown St. Pete, you can either walk or take the downtown shuttle to the stadium. Also, there are many great bars/restaurants in St. Pete to visit before and after the game.
Really enjoying these videos.... Couple of things though, the lack of roofs on a lot of the NFL stadiums is because the games are often played in cold weather and fans want the sun to warm them up. Another thing is that the trend of the three sides stadiums is actually due to the MLS owners wanting them to be easily convertible to concert venues. In the past this was basically done as a hedge if the MLS didn't survive. Finally Dillon stadium in Hartford actually hosted 70s NASL soccer back when it was the top US league.
You forgot to mention how Birmingham Legion are supposed to be moving to the new stadium being built as we speak. Protective Stadium. And it will be the biggest in the USL when it's done and they move in.
Al Lang WAS designed in 1976 for baseball only. Laney College field was the first Joke-land location for the departed Raiders, known as Frank Youell Field from 1962-'65.
I was a ball boy at American legion stadium for the Charlotte independence, I've also been to the Charleston battery stadium and had a game on one of their facilities
RGVFC fan here, it’s not very windy to begin with in south Texas so wind is not an issue in the stadium at all. The big problem is that it’s really hot year round and if you sit in the West stands you will have to face the blistering sun 😅
@@TheWideWorldofStadiums Haha yeah, the sand runoff at the opposite end is a telltale sign. I wonder if Bold would ever schedule a match while the US Grand Prix was going on.
4:40 A common joke about the Rowdies is the fact that their stadium is (originally) a baseball stadium. No amount of reconfiguration of Al Lang will ever change that. They'd have to move, and even then they still wouldn't live it down. 12:35 That's because it was designed for San Antonio to pursue MLS. It could be expanded whenever they get the call.
@@pablo_the_zolo Louisville City would be a great add for the MLS and give a city that doesn't have a major pro team a team to root for Plus the natural derby with FC Cincinnati, what I'm thinking MLS will eventually be 36 teams with West and East each being 18 teams and only play eachother in conference
I love al Lang. Come here for a game and you will see why we love it. Watching the sun go down while looking out over the bay is awesome. Even if we reconstruct the stadium, I hope they leave the view alone.
As an RGVFC fan, you want the wind cause it gets real hot down here in south texas, but the wind doesn't affect the match tho, just gives the fans a nice breeze
Tacoma will be soon getting a soccer-specific stadium for both teams. Cheney Stadium is just a placeholder. And yes, you can see Mt. Rainier from the stands.
I’ve been to HEB Park a couple of times and I haven’t found the wind to be much of an issue probably due to the fact that most of the wind comes from the east in the area and the stadium’s stands block the wind from the east. The stadium may be too large as it is rarely filled and tickets get really expensive. But the atmosphere is amazing as fans down in the Rio Grande go all out for soccer.
OKC is actually getting a brand new soccer/rugby stadium built in downtown okc. It’s going to look really nice and hopefully gives us the nod to be an MLS team!
I really enjoy watching USL games. Detroit City FC and the Tampa Bay Rowdies are fun to watch. I gotta give it to the Detroit City fans. They go crazy during home games :-)
I remember attending a UAB soccer game at the old configuration of BBVA Stadium, kind of impressed of how fast the renovations went up my sophomore year

Indy Eleven and Las Vegas Lights (Fla Vegas) will be the next expansion teams. Indy is already building a new MLS-caliber stadium, and Vegas for obvious reasons.

One plus about the games at Merlo as a former STH is free parking!

After playing there for 4ish years they began to play at Lucas Oil Stadium (NFL Colts). Since they are building a new stadium with the intention of becoming an MLS team, they stopped renting Lucas Oil and went back to IUPUI Carroll stadium during the construction of the new stadium.
If I was the USL, I would take the best supported 18 teams. Go single table. Relegate with league 2. Get rid of any MLS affiliations (no team 2's). And finally, try to get most top teams into similar stadiums as Louisville. Build stadiums that are 10k to 15k at 50 to 75 million, and with no MLS expansion fees, this league can have a 12,000 attendance ave and MLS with TONS more money to get into is still only at about 22,000 ave.
