Excellent instructional video!. And based on it I purchased the same thermostat. I havent installed it yet but I have powered it on and connected to Smart Life. I have a couple of questions and hopefully you will be able to answer. Q1. I noticed that when accessing the thermostat via the app the "Set Temp" shown is not the current until I power off/on the thermostat via the app. To clarify - say 9:00 - 10:00 = 19C and 10:00 - 11:00 = 21C. At 9:30 via the app swich off/on the thermostat it then displays set to 19C. Now at 10:10 Without switching off/on it will still display 19C until Off/On to force a refresh of the data. Have you noticed the same? Q2 - What is the "Switching differential" setting? Many Thanks Chris
Correct, once I've left the thermostat off when I went on holiday. I knew it was cold in the house but for the first minute or so it still showed 19 Switching differential is how far below the temperature should drop before kicking on again
@@laymandiy Thanks, appreciated. So, nothing wrong with mine. I tried different apps, Tuya and Brilliant, and get the same behaviour. Somehow the "Set Temperature" is not uploaded to the app unless OFF/ON but somehow the actual temp reading is continually updated on the app. Ah well... must make it a habit to switch Off and then On to refresh the "Set temp" reading. Again many thanks for coming back to me.
It is impossible for me to connect it to Wi-Fi, is there any way to reset it or put it in search mode? What icon is for the thermostat? Me es imposible conectarlo al wifi hay alguna manera de resetearlo o qe se ponga wn modo busqeda?? Qe icono es del termostato???
I have followed this video however when I fit the wiring the wifi unit intermittently powers on and off and doesn’t work properly. I initially thought this was a problem with the unit itself so got it replaced yet it’s happening again. In an attempt to fault find I put only the live and neutral in their respective ports and it still doesn’t power up properly however when I put the live in the L port and switched live in the N port it powers up fine however can’t control the heating system in this set up. Any ideas/suggestions would appreciated.
I don’t have a test block unfortunately so have conceded and put the Danfloss unit (exact same unit and wiring in your video) back on. Frustrating as I now have 2 tuya thermostats sitting here.
Hi, I’ve watched your video a bunch of times, as I believe it’s the solution to my problem. I can’t have a Hive system installed. I simply want to be able to control the temp of the thermostat/heating remotely. My current thermostat (Drayton Digistat+) is battery operated. It has a red wire going into Coms, and a yellow into On. There is an Earth coiled up in the unit. If I buy the same unit as you, is it possible to power it from the on (yellow wire) wire by using a wire bridge? Of course I’m not holding you to this advice, and I’ll seek professional help, but I don’t want to waste money buying this thermostat if it won’t work. From reading the many threads in this video, it seems my question has been asked before, but I wanted a little clarification. Many thanks for your post though, extremely informative.
@@laymandiy Hi, thanks for the speedy reply. The thermostat is currently lying open on the floor! After a total refurb. So there is no back box/patress to speak of. I couldn’t make out a neutral, which thinking about it now, makes my question redundant. I’ll have to take a closer look at the wire going into the stat, as there might be a terminated neutral. However I’m not that lucky. If I can find a 240V power supply for the new stat, then I guess the red wire can go into the on terminal, and the yellow into the Com terminal. Thanks a bunch for your advice. It seems this was never going to be straightforward, after Hive visited me last week to try and complete the install but couldn’t.
No electrician would ever recommend connecting an external power supply to the thermostat. Not sure what the regs are but I'm thinking that would be against it, you'd be crossing over two circuits which is a complete no no. Imagine switching off the lights circuit only that it isn't and the mains is still powering it. Extremely dangerous. You could go for tado or some other battery operated remote thermostat, if you're not prepared to draw a new wire.
Hi, having installed the thermostat and added it to Smart Life, it seems that I can only control the temperature from my phone. I cannot turn the thermostat off from my phone or access the programming which is possible only from the thermostat itself. On the Smart Life app there are four buttons at the bottom (Switch, Mode, Setting, Function Name) but nothing happens when I press any of them. When the thermostat is turned off, the icon for Switch becomes pale but then I cannot turn the thermostat on from my phone. In summary, is it the case that all you can do with your phone is to change the current temperature setting for the thermostat and nothing else?
No, on mine I can turn on/off, change temperature, change the mode (auto/manual) etc. Works with Google home and Alexa, albeit Alexa does seem to (lately) think I'm in a different mode.
@@laymandiy Thanks. I now realise I bought the wrong version of the thermostat! How stupid but luckily should be able to change it for the correct one.
Hi, great video, just a quick question... The thermostat in your video is the dry contact for gas boiler or for water heating (underfloor heating). I found few thermostats (same model as yours) on amazon but they have different diagrams at the back. My original installation is exactly same as yours, with exactly same equipment. Thank you
If you have boiler powered underfloor heating then yes the same process.. there are a few electric underfloor thermostats which have different diagrams
@@laymandiy i have a same Danfoss thermostat, same valve actuators as yours, exactly same wiring, the pipes going under the floor but they are connected to the standard radiators. The boiler is Ideal. I ordered thermostat for underfloor water heating with normally open, normally closed, N and L and unfortunately if i connect L N and black cable to NO the thermostat wont turn on, with a bridge between L and NO same result, it will turn on only if i bridge NO with N but than is rebooting constantly. Is this means i should get different thermostat which is labelled as Gas Boiler/water heating dry contact?? Thank you so much for taking the time in a weekend to help me out

The programable thermostat I have is a Tuya ME81H with the same back terminals as yours. My boilers thermostat only has 2 terminals as far as 240V ac is concerned. @@groundbeef662 It is very easy to decipher if you have the wiring diagrams. Live is not a problem, all boilers have a live 240v. There will be wires going into the mechanical which will be similar to a switch, if you forget the timing element of it all and just think of it as a switch that turns it on or off, you need to connect the 2 bits that complete the circuit to the dry contacts.
hi Layman DIY first thanks for video it's very good! I bought Avatto Thermostat Controller for gas boiler recently, i have 2 port motorized valve next to my hot water cylinder. Wiring will be the same? Please help me ,cause electrician ask 150 euro to change it.Thank you!
For some reason I didn't see this comment, sorry. Did you resolve it? It shouldn't matter. Most modern builds have a 2 port motorised valve or zone valves. You are changing a thermostat and if it has been wired correctly, it wouldn't have been done at the thermostat.
It sets itself to 32⁰C every day at 0.00. Only for the 5+2 or 6+1 program. It works well with a 7-day program. What is the problem? What is the solution?
OK so these are Good Smart Thermostats, BUT my home has 2 pipes for cold water based Fan-Coil Air conditioner, and 2 pipes for hot water UNDERFLOOR heating. So I thought this type of thermostat would be great...... BUT in heating mode, I cannot see how to turn off the Fan, which is only needed for the Fan-Coil units... Any ideas, suggestions, help, alternative 4 pipe thermostats, would be MOST welcome!! It just needs a firmware update to achieve this but????
No your cannot update the firmware. I'm not entirely clear on how or what controls the hot flow and cold flow. Are the AC and underfloor heating linked?
@@laymandiy Hello, thanks for your interest. The Underfloor heating pipes and zone valves are separate to the cooling pipes (fan coils units) and their associated room or zone valves. They are not "linked" electrically unless I have a single thermostat to control each valve ie a 4 pipe thermostat, The only place they are "linked" is in the pipe work distribution system and "indoor" mixing, pumping system thats part of the heatpump machinery, The heatpump changes mode when told to do heating, so the AC fan-coil pipe system is not used, hence I don't want the fans running.. When it's in colling mode, the heatpump tries to keep the circulation water down to maybe 8 or 10C, and when in Heating mode the circulation water is pushed up to 35C or maybe 40C suitable for the Underfloor heating... but that water isn't pumped through the Fan coil units... likewise the Cooling water isn't deliberately pumped through the underfloor system
Picture speaks a 1000 words, perhaps you can link to a system that does the same thing online or similar set up to yours. I'll be honest I've not encountered something like that before in that fashion but at the end of the day it's just switch with WiFi and thermostat so can't be that complicated. Just need to identify where to swap it for.
Hello I recently bought the same thermostat (not Avatto brand but it looks the same), I installed it and everything works as I expected, but I noticed a problem with its watch, it is more than 5 minutes behind for an hour, can this problem be fixed ? @@laymandiy It turned out that the thermostat is adjusted only via the Internet, when not connected to the Internet it lags behind by 10-15 minutes per hour.

Can you help me why boiler wont start? Boiler wont get signal from thermostat. New thermostat I have BHT-002GCL with WI-FI Thank you
It's a simple switch considering that the old thermostat only has 2 wires going into it. Have you made a jumper between live and either no/NC? Failing that, and given your original thermostat was working, id say your unit might be faulty.
Hi LaymanDiy, I only have two wires for my room thermostat (one live and another neutral) could you please advise how I can wire these? My existing one is an EPH Controller CM2.
It will if you can find a live and neutral to power the unit. Unfortunately not aware of any permenant smart device, that doesn't require a permanent power supply
Hey buddy do you know if I can hook this thermostat with just 2 Wires? I have central air conditioning and I just removed the old one and I only have 2 wires
2 wires means it's simple switch. Unfortunately there isn't a simple way to do this. You need a neutral. You could supply power direct to thermostat and connect the wires to dry contacts. In theory that works but please ensure that you follow your local laws if sucha thing is allowed.
The only problem is. Both receiver and controller are in the same box. I have Honeywell. The Receiver next to boiler and wired and controller is down at the tv room n shows the temperature of the room. This thermostat doesn’t have separate receiver for me to wire it next boiler. Otherwise it’s really nice gadget.
Providing i have data / Internet on my phone can I control the heating from anywhere in the world or do I need to be connected to the same WiFi as the thermostat?
No this won't control the hot water tank, just central heating. You can use it in conjunction with your existing system. Set the heating from the boiler control to be always on and then controlled by this unit.
Would’ve been a great video of you didn’t skip the wifi enabling process. Arguably the most important part of getting a WIFI CONNECTED THERMOSTAT. Everything else was fine but really just skipped that part
I didn't skip it, it just connected really quick. If you are struggling with WiFi 9/10 it's to do with the bands. If you have one of those routers that merge to optimise 2.4/5ghz radios, you'll need to split the ssids into separate ones.

Tried adding a link to dry contact 4 to L, no change. checked boiler unit, can see 1 wire going to Room/Stat/Timer. (2 zone system, but that all looks good) thanks in advance
If it's only 2 wires then you don't have a live and neutral but rather live and switched live, which basically means the battery operated thermostat completes the circuit when the temperature is reached. Treat dry contacts as your switch. Both the wires need to go into dry contact. That leaves you with powering the thermostat, which can be done using live from one of the dry contacts. What's interesting is that your thermostat seems to turn on. Does it still turn on if you remove the neutral wire into the thermostat?
@@laymandiy yes confusing but I'm learning more with each step. I've removed the blue (L2) and it will not power on with just brown in the L1 slot. I tried bridging the dry contact (4) with the red wire (L) but still Will not power up boiler. I guess I need to trace the cable back to the boiler unit & maybe start again with new wiring?
Any North Americans have this or similar Chinese WiFi thermostat for their natural gas furnace? My thermostat has 4 wires... R/G/W/Y... Not sure if this would work but if it will would love to buy and try.
Remove the jumper does it still trip? Your configuration night be a little different. Does it trip from the get go or does it trip when the time comes to switch on
So nothing displays on screen? Sounds like you have a faulty thermostat. Even if the heating doesn't turn on, a normal functioning thermostat should at least turn on and let you connect to wifi
@@laymandiy I'm not sure if I have the same three wires. I saw a video where another guy went on to the board of the boiler and changes some wires. I have a live neutral and earth. That's all..
In my video I explain how to and why you may need to trace the wires. Easiest thing to do is to wire the live neutral directly to the mains and see if your unit is working.
Many Thanks
Chris
Correct, once I've left the thermostat off when I went on holiday. I knew it was cold in the house but for the first minute or so it still showed 19
Switching differential is how far below the temperature should drop before kicking on again
Hey,
I've got exactly same thermostat like yours, my got only L/N and earth wires. Battery operated. Can I still switch to wireless one?
Yes you can
It is impossible for me to connect it to Wi-Fi, is there any way to reset it or put it in search mode? What icon is for the thermostat?
Me es imposible conectarlo al wifi hay alguna manera de resetearlo o qe se ponga wn modo busqeda?? Qe icono es del termostato???
A friend had a similar problem. Please make sure your phone is connected to 2.4ghz and router is also broadcasting in 2.4ghz
@@laymandiy thx my friend it was faulty
I have followed this video however when I fit the wiring the wifi unit intermittently powers on and off and doesn’t work properly.
I initially thought this was a problem with the unit itself so got it replaced yet it’s happening again.
In an attempt to fault find I put only the live and neutral in their respective ports and it still doesn’t power up properly however when I put the live in the L port and switched live in the N port it powers up fine however can’t control the heating system in this set up. Any ideas/suggestions would appreciated.
Have your tried putting live and neutral and connecting directly to a power outlet or test block?
I don’t have a test block unfortunately so have conceded and put the Danfloss unit (exact same unit and wiring in your video) back on. Frustrating as I now have 2 tuya thermostats sitting here.
You need to connect directly to power outlet. To me sounds like you have some weird wiring that needs to be identified.
Hi I have the same thermostat but with obtaining a different router I can’t get it to pair. Please could you tell me how to unpair the old one.
Press up and down button for about 5 seconds until you hear three beeps. It will be available for pairing again.
Do you know how to reset it? Mine doesn't connect to wifi and I can't find how to reconnect it?
If you have a neutral wire, blue in colour, also coiled up then yes. The box where the wires come into, isn't it made out of metal?
OK i have water heater setup..... how do I go about that exactly? Any video?
Sorry I'm not clear on your set up
Hi, great video, just a quick question...
Thank you so much for taking the time in a weekend to help me out
This is the wrong thermostat for you..
@@laymandiy Awesome, thanks, I will get Gas Boiler/Dry contact then
@@laymandiy same thing with dry contact boiler thermostat. The Thermostat is booting up only when I cross Neutral (blue) with contact (black) wire, if Life is bridged the screen is not turning on. Any idea?
Hey LaymanDIY
Congrats on your excellent content.
I wonder if you can guide me.
My combi boiler is Vaillant Eco 825 with no room thermostat installed.
The programable thermostat I have is a Tuya ME81H with the same back terminals as yours.
My boilers thermostat only has 2 terminals as far as 240V ac is concerned.
I don't think the 2 wires simple go into terminals 3 & 4 of the thermostat?
Otherwise where is the demand wire to switch the boiler on?
Please heeelllp
2 wires is common. The boiler thermostat, is it mechanical ? U can usually decipher from the wiring diagram on the existing thermostat
@@laymandiy sorry to hijack.. I've got same issue , mechanical thermo so I guess I am gonna need to run a 240 supply if I want to go smart and digital as well , which will be a pain are there any battery ones out there ?
I set it to manual and use Alexa / Google home for routines rather than the built in programs of the thermostat.
I have written twice at least to BECA the company that makes the BEC-002 or is it BAC-002 to ask them about this issue...
The thermostat is not connected to the Internet, but only to the Tuya mobile application
The only way I can resolve this is by manually setting the time on the thermostat
@@laymandiy It turned out that the thermostat is adjusted only via the Internet, when not connected to the Internet it lags behind by 10-15 minutes per hour.
Excellent video. Is there a monthly subscription fee for the website, after initial period ? Is there a data logger to show the heating usage?
No usage charges.. and unfortunately no usage details on this model. but I believe you can install custom software on it that integrates with home assistant, alternatively maybe mqtt might be able to record usage
Hello, just trying connect thermostat like on your video thermostat on I can hearing click on thermostat but boiler wont turn on? I have same old thermostat like on video. Can you help me why boiler wont start?
Boiler wont get signal from thermostat.
New thermostat I have BHT-002GCL with WI-FI
Thank you
It's a simple switch considering that the old thermostat only has 2 wires going into it.
It's the existing connected to terminals 1 and 2?
@@laymandiy Thank you for your response. Yes it is. Live going into 1 and neutral into 2
Sounds like it's not a neutral but rather a switched live. Which basically means that your thermostat is just a break in live circuit
@@laymandiy cheers, so this thermostat won't be work for me?
It will if you can find a live and neutral to power the unit. Unfortunately not aware of any permenant smart device, that doesn't require a permanent power supply
Hey buddy do you know if I can hook this thermostat with just 2 Wires? I have central air conditioning and I just removed the old one and I only have 2 wires
I need to know too
2 wires means it's simple switch.
You can get an alternative version of this
Providing i have data / Internet on my phone can I control the heating from anywhere in the world or do I need to be connected to the same WiFi as the thermostat?
Anywhere in the world ..
@@laymandiy and what receiver would I need which would be compatible with this thermostat
Just a router..
Does this control heating the water tank as well or just central heating?
No this won't control the hot water tank, just central heating. You can use it in conjunction with your existing system. Set the heating from the boiler control to be always on and then controlled by this unit.
hello, i have L/N 220v 2 wires and one wire coming from boiler. how i should connect it to this thermostat ?
I cannot comment on this without knowing further... Most likely sounds like the 3rd wire is a switched live which tells the boiler to turn on
Would’ve been a great video of you didn’t skip the wifi enabling process.
Hi I got 2 thermostats (downstairs and upstairs)i connect them same like you did. When I put on that one downstairs heating works fine.when I put on heating upstairs its not working till i switch on that one downstairs. Any ideas?
Sounds like the upstairs is linked to the downstairs at the junction box. Is the upstairs thermostat on when the downstairs isn't calling for heat?
@@laymandiy I don't see it junction box the 2 others honeywell cm907 been working separately before .this house was build in 2015 .and yes upstairs doesn't work (4 radiators)till I'm not put it on another one.
Thermostat looks like works but radiators are cold
To be safe, I would put the old cm907 on to check if it is still operating separately. Leave the new one downstairs as is...
Did you do anything at the junction box?
I put it back on the old one upstairs and left smart one downstairs and its same doesn't work .I think my junction box is built in in my vaillant boiler and I don't open it
My current thermostat only has r and w wired with a jumper from r to c can this tuya work with that?
You need a neutral to power the device. Unless you power it seperately. You'd need to check your electrical regs for that
so can the thermostat be controlled physically or does it ONLY get controlled by the mobile app? also why didnt you link the thermostat in the description? D:
Thermostat can be controlled physically and doesn't require the "smart" to even be used. All functions found in the mobile app can be accessed via the unit itself.
You can search for the thermostats on AliExpress. I didn't want to link it because people have mixed experiences of aliexpress.
Nice explanation .
Could please confirm wifi chip inside ? Is it ESP8266 based ?
Yes they are
Hi can this Thermostat also control Hot Water? Or is it simply a heating stat?
Just heating. Do you have a hot water tank?
@@laymandiy Got an IDEAL boiler with a Honeywell Interface to set on off timers for CH and H/water in the kitchen and in the hallway have the Honeywell Thermostat -
You could set the CH to be always on from the programmer side and install this thermostat to control only the heating.
Just taken my old thermostat off and the only wires there are Live, Neutral and Earth. If I connect it where it says L and N then it powers up but won't turn the heating on.
Any idea how to install it?
Exact way I've shown in the video. If your old thermostat battery operated?
@@laymandiy I have the same issue, just a L & N with a Danfoss TP5000, with battery. Connected & works the new unit but wont switch boiler on/off.
