My initial impression was that for casual listening, the entire frequency spectrum is pretty flat with slightly elevated high end. Vocals are foregrounded to the point that instrument clarity and separation suffered. Soundstage was not great. The mix sounds like it's coming from either the left or the right. Stereo panning effects cause sounds to move sharply from one side to the other. Keep in mind that this was only after a few hours of listening, though. I don't know how they sound in live performances either.
budget portable dac would be either iphone dongle or ifi hip dac. Titan S has tighter and higher quality bass but aria has much more quantity so sounds more fun on aria
