So at this point, I will be playing on normal first, just to get use to playing a fire emblem game. I might even try to use Jade in it, I’m definitely using Panette every time, as for everyone else, we’ll see when I get there.

This was a fun LP. Engage is definitely a game I had fun this year with (around 275 hours), so it was nice to see others have fun.
On another note, I tried Outrealm Trials for the first time against your team in fact. Emphasis on first time because I didn't know that the units you use for defense are unable to be used for offense, and I used my best units for defense... So I guess you can imagine the slaughter that happened when I tried to use my weaker units. It's honestly hilarious what happened, and all I can say is that I tried to get a petty kill and couldn't, so I just spammed Fracture instead. I think you might be able to view the results, so if you want to you laugh (your army does something funny turn 1) I think my profiles name is Pickle.

    Farewell for now, Elyos.
In terms of last words for Engage, I’ve got three things to say.
    * Madeline and Vander should have had a support together, because they are one support short compared to others in their groups.
    * If I had to recommend any one DLC support, it would be Rafal and Gregory.
*Rip BigWingies the Griffon Knight. We hardly knew ye.

Fire Emblem Engage honestly has pretty much everything I could want out of an FE. Even amidst ton of other games on my plate, I still find myself going back to it (You will be mine, Divine Fist Art!) because of its vibrancy, animations, and yet another cast that I fell in love with. It has me excited for what the next game could be like, because if IS took notes from what made Engage such a joyride, this series' future is as bright as the Fire Emblem themselves.

The way rafal went out genuinely made me tear up a little when I first read it. Dude probably saved the world and disappeared without nel or Alear ever finding him. But at least he went out how he wanted to go, protecting the land he once doomed.

0:34 You've got to love Interdimensional Time Zones!
2:01 It's crazy to think we can Forge Dragonstones now! Back in the GBA games, you couldn't even use Hammerne on them!
3:16 That's a Godsend early in the main story!
    4:54 **Facepalms** Really, dev team?
8:50 Poor Madeline! I'm glad that having access to Tiki and Madeline together is guaranteed, because she's going to need that Starsphere.
11:05 This sounds fun on maps with very few Mages or Warriors.
    12:09 Interdimensional Tariffs suck!
    12:50 I agree!
14:29 I like this pairing too. 14:57 Or perhaps Lumera reviving Alear altered his or her DNA?
17:42 The Legendary Greg calls out his variant on his masochism!
18:37 That would have been great, but would it top Celine telling her variant that she's stupid?
    19:57 Kick his butt, Rafal!
20:30 I hope he got to live long enough to enjoy his new life. S Supporting Rafal changes this.
20:54 Veyle has some severe PTSD regarding Zelestia and Gregory in her Supports, but can't bring herself to outright say that their variants abused her.
21:29 I would have loved it if recruiting Madeline altered Mauvier's ending so she saved him from "disappearing without a trace," but it doesn't.
29:32 Like you're enjoying yourself; you've earned it!
41:39 The 3-13 Archer has been reborn!
52:43 It's strange to think that the comments are so positive when Engage wasn't as popular as the last game. I'm all for the positivity though, regardless of why, and I'm sure you've changed quite a few people's minds on this game. See you in your next project! It's been fun!

20:30 Another case where I prefer the solo ending even if it's sad.
20:54 Yeah her support with Zelestia is pretty sad in that regard.
      21:29 That'd be cool, actually.
52:43 In general, the kind of people who want to post negative comments about Engage aren't the type to watch these kind of videos, I'm not surprised there weren't many here. At the same time, there was a lot of good "constructive criticism" of the game in the comments too. Good faith arguments.

20:54 Poor Veyle. Her support with Madeline is probably the most gut wrenching DLC support IMO. It’s a huge reason why I can’t bring myself to hate Madeline despite her usually poor performance in Combat. I still found use for her though.

I have my sister to thank for getting this game for me. She got me into a lot of video games, and Fire Emblem was one of them. I'll also have the opportunity to play FX next month when she visits, so I'm looking forward to that as well.
I do wish that the DLC characters' levels scaled like the Divine Paralogues and skirmishes do, and I'm also surprised there's no Rafal and Veyle support chain, given their similar circumstances. But for what we got from FX, it was pretty great.
And the music from this game is so amazing to listen to. Royal Confidence, Tear Streaked, Falling Petals, Defective, Salvation and Abyss, and Inconstant One are all standouts for me. In fact, I'm getting the urge to binge on Unshaken Royal Confidence (Might) yet again. It's pure godlike instrumentation to my ears.

This Playthrough made me buy the game on like the second or third episode, because I thought the gameplay was just that good. I first got intrigued by your big video where u rank all FE by Story and Gameplay and u ranked this game with the best gameplay by far and I was like sold by the second or third episode by I said. And like many of the most interesting things gameplay wise get introduced later. Like the only thing I really miss in this game (gameplaywise) is the shove mechanic of the tellius games besides that this really is a one of a kind FE and I really hope that furture Fire Emblems try to be inspired by many of the gameplay mechanics this game had to offer. And also thank you for your insightful Playthrough.
Oh and PLEASE make Fire Emblem Gods make Characters be able to say the default name of the "Avatar". PLEASE I dont want my Lord to be called Professor or Divine One anymore or just scrap "Avatars" all together wouldnt mind that either.

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  10 месяцев назад +1

Interesting you got into this series via the gameplay/story episode, which is... something I was hoping would happen. But yeah, I do think this game is the peak of the series in gameplay (though Conquest is too, but it's a lot harder) and I'd love to see it get more attention just for that. The plot is silly and it's not ashamed of what it is, and like I said there, the characters are surprisingly good.
Shoving technically is in this game... via Mia's Bond Ring. But yeah, I'd like to see it as a main mechanic again.
And yeah, I REALLY wish they'd just dump naming, or have the default name be voiced.

In a change-up, I'm going to do the final character reviews first. Mainly because I think my own parting thoughts deserve the final spot in this comment.
Nel: Overall, a very likeable yet nuanced character. She's unquestionably one of the stars of the Fell Xenologue and while things are different in the main story, they're different in a positive way.
Rafal: My 2nd favorite of the DLC characters (and depending on the day, he could even beat Gregory). I love Rafal for being a abrasive without being too much. He knows he isn't a great person, makes no attempt to hide that. Yet he's softer than he realizes, and it's fun to see.
And now, my own final thoughts. In short, this has been an amazing experience. To get to experience someone else unequivocally enjoying a Fire Embem game that I would probably consider my personal favorite, it's just been great. Especially getting to engage, pardon the pun, along the way with my own thoughts and experiences.
It's been a blast Klingy. Looking forward to what comes next

And here we are at the actual LP finale... It's been a fun ride but all good things must come to an end. Besides, more goodies will happen.
As I said on the final episode chapter, this LP has more than sold me on the game, definitely on the "to buy" list, and on high priority at that (sorry Re-Boot Camp, you'll get there eventually but I just got too many games to get, too little money 💀).
Plus this game has definitely made my interest in older FE games grow, as of right now my knowledge is largely limited to the Tellius duology, Awakening, Fates and Three Houses. I can safely say I don't dislike any of them either, and I see little reason why I'd dislike others beyond some old game jank in gameplay.
I hope my sis comes to appreciate Engage eventually as well, when I got her into Three Houses she mainly went in because she started fawning over Dimitri instantly but ended up slowing down severely because of monastery tedium. The Somniel is a lot easier to deal with, I just *know* she'd love Sommie, and maybe Alfred could even work as a sort of Dimitri replacement lol. That or settle for the DLC Emblem.
Overall I'm actually excited to one day get to play it and the only annoying part is I can't yet and my main source of Engage enjoyment is done. But I'll manage. My Persona burnout is starting to fade thanks to Tactica being out, right on time for the Strikers LP! Still sad I couldn't bring myself to even finish Royal before it left Xbox Game Pass because of it and there's no time anymore to do P4G and P3P before they suffer the same fate without a crunch that'd send me right back into burnout soooo oh well.

I know what it feels like to have a game backlog. Not a huge one though.
You've still got a pretty good cross-section of the series, but definitely play the older games, they're all interesting.
And that's why I don't have much interest in playing games via subscription services, if you don't beat them before they go off the pass, that'd suck.

  • @Kwang_Ko
    @Kwang_Ko 10 месяцев назад +3

I said my goodbyes in the premiere chat, so in here, I'll focus on talking about the 5 dlc characters and the 2 dlc classes gameplay wise.
    - Nel(Who is actually called "L" or "El" in our version)
Nel is good all across the board, though I do think the Fell Child class having really poor bases can let her down a bit if you recruited her a bit late. If you found a good combo with from her dragon type bonus or if you really like using dragonstones with her, you can keep her in Fell Child class, but if not, I honestly much prefer reclassing her into other classes... which, now that I think about it, is a luxury of its own right compared to Timerra. Her stats are balanced all across the board, so while she may not be your best unit, she will serve you quite well. I do want to note that her base and growth on magic is solid enough to the point where its worth giving her a magic weapon even if you are going for a physical class option for her... (though then again, her main proficiency is Lances and Flame Lance sucks...)
    - Rafal(And for his fake name Nil, is called "Ill" in our version)
So some people say that Rafal is a better version of Panette, which really says something about him. While I do agree to that in some regard, there's a couple of things I want to address. Unlike Nell, Rafal does have a pretty well known Dragon build that lets him keep his Fell Child class despite its poor bases. Camilla's Dark Inferno gets a better attack area when used by a Dragon, and Rafal is the only Dragon who can use Dark Inferno by other Axes. Combine it with Corrin and make it into Dark Inferno+, the area coverage of it is a complete 5x5 tyle, and that's pretty great. Unfortunately, the Fell Child class' bases are still pretty bad to the point where if you want to focus on his raw stats, you probably want him on different classes.
    - Zelestia
Being a rare flying Tome user alone makes her a great unit. BUT, I do need to address some elephant in the room. First, the Soulblade skill is rather awkward in my opinion. Sure there are times where it helps, but there's also a lot of times where it makes things worse, which I'm not exactly a fan of. This leads to another downside is that at the end of the day, compared to Ivy, she traded off staves for a rather awkward Swords. While Zelestia is faster and may look like a better combat unit than Ivy, a lot of Ivy's flaws, shaky hit and speed, are a lot easier to fix while Ivy does have better magic stat. Zelestia is a great flying tome user and that alone makes her excellent, but when I am directly comparing her to Ivy, who also serves the same role as a flying tome user, I honestly have to say that Ivy is better, especially when she also has staff utility to work with. This also makes me feel less guilty about reclassing her into other classes, especially since her stats are so good she will work wonders in other classes as well, but that's just me.
    - Gregory
It seems like every DLC characters have at least someone to compare to in the main game. That staff proficiency is another noticeable difference between him and Citrinne in my opinion, because this makes so that Citrinne will likely prefer High Priest, while Gregory will prefer Sage. This also means that Gregory can use B rank staves as a Griffin Knight, so that's another advantage he'll have as a Levin Sword Griffin compare to other units. One slight elephant in the room is that because he prefers Sage, he is techincally worse than Citrinne when it comes to using the infamous Reprisal build, because high priest does have better HP. But that's really a minor problem, really.
    - Madeline
Honestly, Madeline is often considered worse version of Rafal. They have very similar stat build, while Rafal doesn't have much weakness Madeline has. And yes, her hit will have a problem if you keep her in Axe General. Also, she suffers the same issue that Louis has, in that Maddening enemies will ignore you if your defense is too high. That being said, her offense is still insane, so you can either go for wrath build, or you can just give her a strong Smash Axe in... any physical classes that can use Axes, really. I personally like Axe Paladin in the late game, because she can use S rank Axes in that class thanks to her innate proficiency, and oh boy she hits hard with Ukonvasara. Oh, and yeah, that innate Axe proficiency helps her a lot when it comes to using Silver Greataxes in classes where normally doesn't allow it, such as Great Knight or Wyvern knight.
    - Enchanter
While Enchanter can use some fun gimmicks, I'd say this class is INSANE for two reasons. One, it's Qi Adept class that can use daggers, so you can use it with Lucina for both 100% Bonded Shield everyone and Poison chain attack. The Bonded Shield part is more significant than Martial Master, because it has much higher Speed stat, and thus better avo, so safter Bonded Shield use. Two, if you item Surge Pure Water, you can have "CORRUPTED EFFECT DAMAGE". Anyone who played this game will now how good that sounds.
    - Mage Cannoneer
This ones more of a fun class option imo. It's a fun class to work around, but I wouldn't exactly say that it's super good, unlike Enchanter. I will say that the connonballs all have pretty low mt, so while you could aim for high damage if you use it on a right character, I recommend more focusing on support role with this class, in that spreading Freeze/Silence/Break/Poison with its respective cannonballs.

"El" is her Japanese name so I'm not surprised she's called that in Korea. (Nil being "il" I mostly remember from datamines of the final bosses' attacks having "il" in them and people being like "yep, he's our villain.")
The Nel used in this Relay was insane, but then again this was one grinded with Starphere. The Fell Ruinstone's 1-2 range seems great though.
Didn't realize Rafal was the only Dragon with default axe access, which has synergy with several Emblems. (e.g Ike)
The thing with Soulblade is you can't "turn it off" once you have it, outside of reclassing her down to Lv 1. So that can be a pain.
lol High Priest being better for Reprisal because of HP. But yeah, Citrinne not having blue Staves (another Pandreo asset) surprised me, and it's a major boon for Greg.
Enchanter for daggers with Lucina. Nice, I'll need to try that some time.
Axe Paladin Madeline sounds like it could be good.

5:05 I don’t know how they let this happen.
5:17 It’s actually notably different in the sense that she can’t use S-Rank swords, meaning she can’t fire off super powerful engage attacks with Georgios.
16:24 I believe that according to the datamine, Nel and Rafal are also ageless.
29:27 Yup, but I more often see it during Robin’s Final Smash.
32:33 I’ve had relay trials where I did super well, then the next person did super well, then the next person after that got Alear killed and messed it up for everyone.
34:18 There’s also cavalry heavy bonded shield builds, using a lot of Wolf Knights and Mage Knights.
52:52 Yeah this series is what really brought me back to the channel, just seeing all the things you did differently from me. I plan to stick around more in the future!

5:05 There MUST have been a way to make "Nil" and Rafal count as separate units.
5:17 But in return she gets S Tomes. So the only one besides Ivy to have Flying Nova.
16:24 They also have no cap modifiers at all, which is weird.
29:27 I knew I'd heard it somewhere else before.
32:33 Yeah that.. can happen. It's hard to expect all 5 players to have endgame teams and play well.

Now that all the characters have been revealed, I can finally say the team I used on my first playthrough; I should mention that I played in normal mode to get used to the game since the only other traditional FE game I played was 3 Houses. I also used the dlc cause I didn't know they stayed after chapter 11. Also this comment is gonna be really long.
    Final Battle Team:
    ●Alear and Veronica
My Alear didn't really become a great combat unit so I gave him Veronica for Reprisal for a boost in damage and summons.
    ●Framme(Enchanter) and Soren
While engage videos was more frequent, I came across a lot of tierlists. And a lot of them put the early characters in bottom tier. One of those bottom tier characters was Framme because she does no damage and fists are the worst weapon type. I didn't believe any of those claims so I forced myself to use her and she ended up becoming one of my best units. She became a great dodge tank and could constantly double even without the flash fist. Soren made her already decent magic stat better and could fully heal any damage she would take while engaged. The Enchanter bonus abilities made her even better, especially with the convoy skill.
    ●Céline and Celica
Not the most unique pairing but I thought she would be amazing since she's the only one with 3 proficienies without using Celica. But she ended up being the weakest unit in my army since I stopped using her after I lost Celica and used her sparingly until I got her back so she ended up underleveled(level 8 in her promoted class). She was honestly just a filler spot, especially because of my next unit.
    ● Jean(Sage) and Tiki
Jean was also one of the characters who was placed placed in bottom tier early in the game's life. Yes, the village character that can become literally any type of unit you want in a game where getting experience quickly is easy was bottom tier. Yeah I called bs when I saw that so I turned him into a magical monster, he could one shot most enemies except for mages and some griffin knights. Once I saw Tiki's Starsphere skill, I immediately put her on Jean and never looked back. By the end of the game, he had most of his stats maxed out.
    ● Yunaka and Corrin
I honestly don't need to say anything here since we all know how good this build is.
    ●Anna(warrior) and Chrom(and Robin)
Anna was also low in a lot of tierlists(people must really hate child units) due to having a high magic growth but starting off in a physical class. I wanted to use her even before I got the game and came across a video defending Anna. They said to use Anna as a warrior because it's easier to master seal her to that class compared to mage->sage or mage knight. I tried it out and sure enough, she became a power house shooting down enemies for window shopping. Chrom was a perfect pair since she had high magic and even better strength in that class.
    ● Kagetsu(Paladin, I'll explain in a minute) and Marth
So unlike the last batch of characters, Kagetsu was top tier to nearly everyone. But I honestly didn't see it at the time. I didn't know how to use him since the game doesn't tell you about what avoid also helps you landing crits. He didn't do much for the final battle(his class didn't help) but post game he definitely a monster and deserves to be top tier, but I still don't think he's the best character.
    ●Timerra and Hector
The only Lord(if you don't count Veyle or the dragon twins) I ened up using on my team. I wanted to use Ivy or Hortensia but Ivy just didn't get good level ups and I didn't use Hortensia properly because I thought she was a weak unit. I wanted to use Timerra because I liked her design and honestly didn't know that people said she sucked. She ended up being one of the best units in my playthrough. She doubled quite often and she landed sandstorm a lot for me. I just put Hector on her because I thought it would fit putting a tank on her and one of her retainers. Little did I know that Hector made her weakness of having low build into a strength.
    ● Panette(Beserker) and Ike
Do I honestly need to say anything? Panette is the number 1 best character in the game. High hp and strength caps and growth yet has little problems with accuracy. I kept her in berserker because I liked her default outfit and wanted to use the S rank axes. Uknovasara(I had to look in game to spell that) with great aether is ridiculously strong and can one-shot anything. I'm not joking, low hp Panette + Uknovasara + Reprisal(+) + great aether is so strong that you everything will die unless they were out of range or had Roy equip(cough Marni cough).
    ● Merrin and Byleth
Yeah I ended up using everyone from chapter 14 which I wasn't planning on. She worked well with Yunaka and having more knife chip damage is always nice. I put Byleth on her mainly because of Goddess Dance.
    ● Sedal and Sigurd/Lucina
Dancer, enough said. Ok but he actually became a decent combat unit himself and switched emblems depending if needed more movement on him or not.
    ●Veyle and Erika
Nothing special here, she not the strongest but not weak either. Should've used a better emblem on her.
    ● Mauvier(Griffin Knight) and Micaiah
Staff bot that can fly, thats it honestly.
    ●Nel and Lyn
Yeah I did the dlc story early on to get the classes and wanted to make use of at least one of that characters since beating the dlc story with only the characters and emblems before chapter 11 is not fun. She was a decent unit that could take advantage of any emblems. I ended up S ranking her because despite me having problems with the dlc story, I found her story sad and a nice relationship with Alear with the C to A rank.
Man this took forever to type, I planned on saying my post game team but I'll do that later, I'm tired.

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  10 месяцев назад

Personally I think a lot of tier lists are horribly wrong about Framme (ActualLizard ranks her around upper middle, which is better), she's your only chain guarder for a while (Jean is optional and is also an investment unit), has healing/staff utility, and does the Lucina Bonded Shield combo VERY well. She also supports Kagetsu, and her personal skill works really well with Lucina.
I used Celine on my first run and... she fell off to the point where she didn't even get an Emblem in Endgame, only Olwen. But staff utility was nice.
I need to try Timerra with Hector some time. I wonder if the +30% defense from Impregnable stacks with Sandstorm?

I'm a little late to the party but I'll write my thoughts on Engage. When the game was announced, I really did not like it. At the time I was searching for a more complex story, and seeing past characters made me feel like "Oh no they're going full fanservice now, I don't think this will be a good narrative choice". I liked the art style though, and the animations were amazing even from the first trailer. After seeing your thoughts and the developer interview on the Nintendo Website, things started to change. It was clear that the game was not focused on the story at all, but it was an anniversay game which was delayed because of the pandemic, so more gameplay-oriented. I like FE gameplay, but not that much, maybe because I'm bad at it, I don't know, so it wasn't my main interest. I didn't buy the game as I had other things to play, and so when you announced the let's play I was really happy. Needless to say, the gameplay looked amazing on the first parts of the walktrough and it caught my attention. I agree with all you said about the gameplay, and I can say I enjoyed a lot seeing you play around with the different tactics (In particular Micaiah warping 5 people is funny and broken), and it made me want to buy one of the FE I never played, just to have that strategy feel the games have to offer. The plot is not bad as it doesn't take itself too seriously, so I enjoyed it in its semplicity. That said, I think FE Engage perfectly succeded as a game, they had a clear vision on gameplay over story, and they delivered precisely what they wanted (in my opinion, at least) creating possibly the best mechanics and balance the series ever had. This is a great achievement for the team, and it made me like engage a lot, much more than I would have thought; you can see the polish and effort put in everything they worked in. It is definitely a game with fantastic direction. And now regarding the let's play itself: it was great! I love your informative type of commentary, in particular in FE, and I could see the passion you had for the game in your words; that helped me enjoy the game a lot more, as it felt like I was not alone just watching someone play a game, but I was part of a community discussing around it. So thank you for this let's play, and thanks to the other people which kept the comment section going. I wish you all the best and I'm looking forward to your next project.

@@BerserkerRohan Yeah after this LP, I'm probably going to revisit Engage in early 2024 if all goes to plan. Maybe two runs so I can actually have fun with the DLC during the main game since I'll probably do the DLC as a post game thing like Klingy did after my Maddening Run.
Yep Chaos Max Dragon. A lot more annoying in this even since my favorite form of non-targeting removal in form of the N/R rarity Kaijus are banned for this event and the only way I'm realistically beating it in terms of attack if I can stack the grave with Rituals so Phaleg can get just barely enough (and that might get screwed over in more clever Chaos Max spam decks if they bring out the little Chaos Blue Eyes who shuts her off with its effect if I out the big one). After several loses to it, I've now crafted and using a copy of Ice Dragon's Prison (would run the second one I got from the free pack for making the first one, but they limited that for this event annoyingly) and was lucky enough to have Shinobaron to use in the deck too thanks to the Impcantation Engine I'm running in this deck. But yeah, against most non-Chaos Max Turbo decks, I'm doing quite well at least. Got half way through the event with Megaliths, but I might be switching over to Ancient Warriors if I'm not grinding out the pass as fast I'm wanting to for maybe some surprise wins (though going to need to edit it so I have outs to Chaos Max).
Oh I will check that out eventually now I've watched this DLC. Not sure when, but now that I have enough knowledge to judge these characters, I'll have to get to it fairly soon.

“… because I know there’s an overlap between fans of Fate & fans of FE…” - Look, Mom! It’s me!
Jokes aside, while Grand Order does have it’s fair share of problems (and an especially rough start that honestly should be updated one of these days - Something the manga adaptations of the early chapters have gone out of their way to do), overall I do think it’s good points far outweigh it’s flaws, especially when it comes to to story, characters and music (gameplay too, but that’s a far more controversial point than any of the others).
It might seem weird, but unironically one of my favourite things about Samurai Remnant is how it gives unique, appropriate themes to almost all the servants in the game. For as big as the franchise is or how popular character specific music videos are in mobile games nowadays, it’s not a thing Fate really does. Way too many servants either don’t have one or just a short 10 second jingle that plays when they use their noble phantasm because of that, so I appreciate Samurai Remnant for giving us so many unique themes.
Admittedly I’m a bit too spoiled by how available Falcom music is in comparison, but Type-Moon unfortunately has way too much music that is either uncategorised, unavailable or unnamed (either by the devs or, most commonly, by the fanbase that refuses to update the names of songs to reflect their official names, thus making finding certain songs an exercise in pain. I know it’s a somewhat petty complaint, but it's an aspect that really annoys me).
It’s also a bit weird to think about, but the game is actually quite ancient for the usual standards of mobile games life cycles, and it has been hugely successful for a large part of its lifetime, even to this day. It was one of the early pioneers for features / themes that are much more common place nowadays amongst mobile games with a heavier emphasis on story, but it’s also very clearly an old man held together with spaghetti code and duck-tape - A situation not helped by the fact the game company lost a ton of developers and business relations thanks to the whole Sakura Wars fiasco that happened a few years back (Lasengle, I mean. Type-Moon writes, supervises and does art, but they don’t deal with the more technical aspects of the game).
I do dislike DLC that is inexplicably non-canon unless there’s a good reason for it, so I can understand your complaints with 3H’s DLC.
As for the DLC discourse as a whole, I mostly agree with your assessments. I’ve admittedly become a bit more jaded even towards so called “expansion-sized DLC” content in the last few years since AAA games have abused the popularity of the open-world format to hell and back in the last couple of years, but if the DLC is worth the cost and adds to the game in a meaningful way, I’m not against the practice in theory.
Hmm… It’s hard to say if Bernadetta is more or less fetishized than other similar characters. As I’ve learned, male and female players have vastly different tastes in that department, especially when it concerns specific fetishes. That’s not say there’s not common overlapping traits, because they obviously exist in some form, but they definitely have different “vibes” going for them, for lack of a better word.
Finally, when it comes to the Fell Xenologue as a whole, I echo most of your sentiments - particularly when it comes to the gameplay front (The maps themselves are well designed, but some of them do sometimes veer from challenging to annoying and that feeling is only exacerbated on the higher difficulties. I also would’ve liked if it were possible to customize your characters more instead of having the game decide so many aspects of what you can do and access for you) and the characters (I wouldn’t call them amazing, but considering the time they’re given, Nel and "Nil" end up being pretty good. I’m a bit more mixed on the 4 Winds, but they don’t detract anything from the story, at least).
For me, though, where the game really falters is in things like the length since, much like the main game, I felt like the story / characters didn't have enough time to spread their wings and develop all the aspects the game brings forward to the table. Heck, I’d say the DLC it’s probably even worse than the main game in that aspect since I feel like there’s so much more you could explore with the Alt timeline that ends up going nowhere.
It's also not my favourite use of the Alt timeline trope, despite me thinking it does make use of some particular aspects of the worldbuilding better than the main game.
As I see it, Alt timeline is a great setting for seeing how characters would act in extremely different circumstances or when starting from a vastly different starting point, with the idea allowing for characters to show what really lies at the core of their being and what parts are just the more shallow portions of their "masks".
Type-Moon has done this many times (both very well and very badly), so maybe I just need a bit more to surprise me by now, but thanks to the plot-twist about the nature of the remaining human populations on the Alt-timeline being basically all corrupted, it does lessen the impact of this idea a bit. You can speculate a bit on some aspects given what the corrupted Royals say, but it's something I feel could have been better explored.
And well, that's that... I still think it's a good DLC, but I'm probably slightly more mixed on it than you are. Sorry this comment ended up being so Fate / Type-Moon centric. It wasn't my intention, but I've realized I've said most of what I wanted to say about Engage by this point. There's nothing more to add without going into repetition (even more than I already do, at least).
Thanks for the playthrough and good luck with whatever comes next (I still need to watch the update video). Until next time!

How old is FGO now? 2015. I guess that qualifies as "ancient" now. But for a live service game that's a long time to keep running.
And FEH's early chapters also have a lot of weirdness now, especially with powercreep. (To the point where they had to change your first free Hero from Virion to Takumi, something unthinkable in the early days when Takumi was OP)
Wait, what was the Sakura Wars fiasco? At one point I considered getting the new one, then got turned off when I found out it went from turn-based strategy to action RPG.
The FX definitely suffers from length, not being able to do enough with its setting/characters in only 6 chapters. It's okay, but it could've done more. I agree on the alt universe thing. I find a lot of the time they're excuses to make new characters with the same... body and name as a mainline one, if that makes sense. Ideally they should do what you explained, but too often it's "what if X were EVIL?!" in a way that's not a natural extension of that character. This DLC comes CLOSE to being natural extensions but it's harmed by the Corrupted thing making it unclear how much is really "themselves".

@@BigKlingy Yeah, for other mediums 8 years old isn't that big of a deal (In JP, I mean. The English version is only 6 years old), but for a mobile game, it's way above average.
Okay. To make a long story short, 3 years or so ago, Delight Works (now Lasengle. They're the guys who manage the technical aspects of FGO) tried to expand their company and do a new mobile game under the Sakura Wars franchise -- Sakura Revolution if I'm not mistaken.
To do this, they brought in a lot of new personal and wasted a lot of money and resources, but thanks to a mix of mis-management and bad marketing (and the game genuinely not being good), the game ended up failing pretty badly and causing a lot of controversy.
The storms have mostly passed by now, but that debacle left a Delight Works with a really bad reputation. Even now they have some troubles recruiting new developers and that has caused some delays and developing troubles this year in FGO. It is what it is, sadly.

I can also see this game being more positively received when the next contested FE game comes out like Sacred Stones and Fates Conquest. Overall I enjoyed your let's play as well and I'm glad you're enjoying Fire Emblem again.
With the whole Nel/Rafal romance thing, I think the avatars being associated with dragons/are dragons have a bit of an incest streak. We're 3 for 4 now (I think Aversa is Robin's adopted sister but I'm not sure).

lol, yeah there could definitely be a "Zelda/Final Fantasy Cycle" happening with this one (game gets hated on release, is instantly vindicated when the next game comes out). Generally the FE games with good gameplay tend to age very well, so hopefully that happens with this one.
Also yes, Aversa is Robin's kind of adopted sister, although they don't remember much of that time.

Gonna say at the very least with the Winds’ casual outfits pretty much translating onto the Hounds themselves, I can see Madelines and Zelestia’s without the ribbons really working out with the Hound color scheme going on with Marni and Zephia. With Griss on the other hand I can’t imagine him wearing anything else that isn’t his regular outfit.
If I were to ever use the DLC characters, it would be Rafal and Nel to at least playtest dragons and I can certainly see the possibility of me using the DLC classes even if it would just be one each with that cost to get others, I would certainly take a second to decide who would get what role.
Relay trials as they go on don’t exactly do it for me personally, not only because overtime of the less traffic that they pick up but also due to how potentially samey and possibly being cleared rather quickly with the right setup that others could miss out on rewards. Though it might be fun to seek out a way to win by only being a single player.
Outrelms I found didn’t catch much traffic when the game was in its clear honeymoon, possibly because I think most people forgot about it when they were done with a playthrough when the teams were too weak and samey to be really utilized early on, and as far as I can tell, not much reward comes out of it as is, so that is certainly an incentive killer to try it as well.

I really like Nel's Somnel outfit... she looks like a supermodel. She also hated fashion apparently. But dresses this good. Nel is one of my favorite Fire Emblem Girls. Like top 3

Really glad to see some units shine like Amber considering I used him on my first ever playthrough and refused to slot in someone better!!!
Also I never do outrealm trials but I went ahead and did yours with my 2nd playthrough team (when I have some idea on what I am doing)
and even tho I made some blunders (Like forgetting ur Anna had a radiant bow and watched her ripped Rafal to shreds, or leaving my anna to die accidentally by ur Anna, Hortensia dying FIRST TURN.), I actually managed to win (Gregory nailed it for me! tho Merrin and...even ALFRED did pretty alright too...somehow an untrained Veyle lived all of that I think (could be wrong but all I remember was Hortensia, Anna, and Rafal dying!), ofc idk if you can see replays of ur defenses but I hope so, the team was...interesting in some areas!!

Maddening is actually not too bad, I was surprised how much I ended up enjoying it. Chapter 5 is the main early roadblock, but I'd also recommend training a lot of magic users, as late-game magic is the best way to kill Maddening enemies.

I was getting a little bit stat screwed with Zelestia, so I reclassed her to Enchanter. And then she stopped getting screwed in the stats department. So, kinda a shame that she isn't in her personal class anymore, but I can't deny that having her with knife utility isn't fun when having Lucina on her. ^_^
I love how you showed off the stupidly overpriced dlc class items, and failed to mention that said obsurd price is WITH the Silver Card active. The cost of them WITHOUT it, is completely obnoxious.
I remember the first time I saw Zelestia's casual outfit, I was completely STUNNED to see how freaking modest it is. Like, her combat outfit is so fan-servicey, I expected her casual outfit to be as well.
I honestly wish that the dlc characters could support more people than they can. I saw in Nel's likes and dislikes that she likes folk foods, but hates fairy tales, and all I can wonder is how support conversations with her and Chloe would go. XD
Oh, wow. Nel sounds so visceral in her boss conversation with Sombron. Gotta say: I am a fan. ^_^
For Relay Trials, you're allowed to double up on Emblems, just not on characters. (Unless they die.)
I still remember the funniest thing ever happened to me the very first time I ever did a Relay Trial. I did it right as soon as it became available, so I only had a few Emblems, and very low level characters, since it was only chapter 7 in the story. I had a bad moment of joycon drift happen that resulted in me accidentally ending someone's turn when I meant to do something with their action, and then another case of unluckiness where they missed a high 80-90% hit rate, and resulted in 2 of my 5 units dying during the 2 turns that I had before it flipped over. When I checked on the trial to see what had happened after it had been finished, the next person to pick up immediately ran Alear to the back corner of the map, and left them there for the remainder of the map. Just, "Uh, nope! Back here! Sit in the corner, and stay safe while I handle this." It was WAY too funny. XD
I thoroughly enjoy Relay trials. They're very fun, and I especially enjoy getting to see what other people do with their own units. I remember one of the first ones I did, I saw someone who made Jade a Wolf Knight, and it was the very first time I'd ever seen her.
I remembered seeing your comment on it could be worthwhile for people watching it as a premiere, and it wasn't until I was at work that I realized that it would be for people who could take over a Relay Trial for you. XD
Technically speaking it won't necessarily only be 1 person that can take over a trial. Up to 5 players can participate, it just really depends on how good the starting team is and how many of the extra deployment areas are activated for new players.
I thoroughly enjoyed this whole series, and while I'm a little sad that it's now come to an end, I am glad that it was a good, fun time the whole way through. ^_^
(I'm also glad that I was able to share some of my blind thoughts along in the comments the whole way through, since while I wasn't "playing along", I was still at least a few chapters ahead of the series so that I could continue to remain spoiler free.)

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  10 месяцев назад

lol, that happens sometimes. (I think Jean here gained more Speed as a Sage than he did as a High Priest... which I put him in specifically so he'd gain speed)
I only realized mid-premiere that these prices were WITH the Silver Card, lol. For the Mage Cannoneer price, I guess Intelligent Systems realized how broken Ballistas were in Shadow Dragon and didn't want you having lots of them.
Zelestia's casual outfit is one of the biggest transformations, and it's nice to see such a different side of her.
It's a shame the Winds only support Mauvier, Veyle and eachother, too. But at least those supports are good.
Both conversations with Sombron are amazing. I don't know if the four winds get conversations.
lol Alear there. Relay Trials actually sound pretty fun, if you get the right people.

I mean, it was a fair thing for them to do. It was a fresh out of Chapter 6 Alear, who wasn't even promoted yet. I probably would've done the same thing if I'd been the person to pick up my trial.
I've only ever had 1 bad experience with a Relay Trial, and it was with my very first loss. (I've had like, 3 loses I think?) It was the 3rd map made available to you, and it is a terrible map. Every enemy has killer weapons. The person who picked up my trial was as low level as I was, and ran in guns ablazing, and Alear got crit to death. So, I don't think bad experiences are very common in Relay Trials, and it's a mostly fun time. ^_^

It's something that's frustrated me to no end, especially since Three Houses was 99% handled by Koei Tecmo and not Intelligent Systems, so while it's a good game, it's absolutely not something to base your impression of the series off. It's basically a spinoff that's billed as a mainline entry.
It's made me appreciate Awakening a lot more, as that game managed to be both newcomer/mainstream friendly AND still give a great impression of what "Fire Emblem" feels like. Its gameplay might not be perfect but it's also a much better jumping-on point for the rest of the series than 3H is.

So for expanded thoughts on the DLC Characters.
While I find Nel a quite decent character during the Fell Xenologue writing wise I don’t like her as much as a unit now that we have regular acsess to her.
In general I find that she’s the most similar to Alear of the Dragon Siblings, she is faster and has more Magic in exchange for lower Strength and Defence so a lot of builds which work on Alear as a Divine Dragon work on her as well, she does better with Chrom and Leif who have a string focus on Magic but that’s mainly it,
I feel like she could be a good unit if trained but and her being one of two units who can use Stones, every one of them having unique applications
I also don’t like her personal skill or class skill, the former requires you to use her alongside a specific unit, while Rafal is a good unit by himself and he wants to be attacked if you want to use Nel and nit Rafal it doesn’t work, and Resist Emblems is very situational, because it’s only going to help in Chapters with Emblems and typically there only 1 on the map.
Rafal, the fact that he has very good HP, Strength and Defence, has decent Skill and Speed despite that and only really skimps on Magic and Resistance, making him unique for the Dragons, a physical tank and hence what Emblems he likes differs a bit more from Alear, Veyle and Nel. Emblems like Ike and Hector who help physical bulk he gets the Dragon bonuses and they increase his best stats, he appreciates the power and Hold Out that Roy gives as he cna take more hits…..
I find that Spur Emblems can help you get your Emblems back quicker albeit I find it best when your going from objective to objective and on maps which require you going through closed in locations, since you have to be next to a unit oj the start of a turn to grant the bonuses and hence it limits how much your units can move around.
So Zelestia, I like her as a flying magical attacker because in a lot of ways she’s like Ivy but while she doesn’t hit as hard with Magic she’s faster and hence can take out more enemies , has more physical bulk and can use physical weapons to decent effect. It’s not an entirely unique niche but she is good at it. I even quite like Friendly Boost, she can end up being a long way away than allies which can make to get consistent use out of it but you can use her as the opening act to make your allies jobs easier.
My main issues comes how her her being a mixed attacker was handled, while I admittedly tend to like Staves on Magic based units above anything else, but with someone like her your want to use Swords for the most part to take out low Defence enemies, but Soulblade will hurt that adaptability because it reduces the damage of physical Swords against most opponents,
I really like Gregory, as a combat unit he has his strengths and weaknesses, as a Sage he has very highs magic and hence with enemies like Generals he very reliably takes them out and he has good chip damage on most others, but since most of his growths and bases are in the stats that Sage specialises in he’s a magical tank, so he doesn’t double often and I’d at risk of doubling for any decently fast enemy unit and that’s a lot of thee enemies he fights, middling hit due to his Skill and Luck being a bit low doesn’t help.
But I find that his HP and Defence are high enough that he can take some hits even if it’s not many, with his base growths in those stats being surprisingly high for someone with that high a Magic and Resistance stat at that low a level. His base HP is even quite high considering his classes caps, and even if you don’t like his stats since he’s a prerpomoted Sage who can only get a weapon rank increase in Staves he can use every Stave bar one.
I find a personal skill that increases Avoid weird considering how he isn’t that fast.
Madeline, I prefer using her as more of a straight wall than anything else, she has very high HP and Defence and hence can take a lot of physical punishment which her personal skill helps with if she’s in front of her allies, especially if you to her fairly early when someone like Louis would be lower levelled and hence will be taking more damage on average.
And she does hit hard but don’t expect her to hit as reliably as other Armours, her Dexterity being a bit more an issue than her Speed considering her class doesn’t need Speed to complete her function as a wall.
And talking about that, I would normally expect someone who combines being slow with high Defence but low Resistance to be a better unit than someone whom is also slow but lacks Defence instead or Resistance, because most enemies are targeting the higher defensive stat of the former, someone like Gregory had the advantage of having supportive abilities at least.
