So interesting what Nina said about Covid changing what authors could or wanted to write about, I wonder if that’s why we have seemed to get a slew of historical fiction and fantasy the last few years because writing about the present day wasn’t a great option 🤔 will look forward to your thoughts on Bright Dust and can’t wait for the Rónán, Kauvery chat 👏

What a pleasant guest! So well spoken. Exciting to wait for Ronan Hession. The cover of his book alone is worth the price of admission.

Thank you for interviewing Nina Berkhout! I have put This Bright Dust on Notify Me from the library and borrowed Why Birds Sing in the meantime. Another great interview and what a treasure to have the Royal Visit scrapbook!

🐝🐝 Yes, I think This Bright Dust might be a Mikiko book!

The idea of “separating” from the crown, at this point, seems ridiculous to me… like it or not, parts of the British culture are firmly engrained here. ❤ Very cool guests. Thank you, as always. Your Friday Reads just get better and better all the time.

Thank you for the generous comment! The process for separating from the monarchy is virtually impossible logistically: the House of Commons, the Senate, and all 10 provincial legislatures must all agree.

What an interesting guest! Her book sounds fascinating. The Safekeep is on my possibilities list.

I loved 'Safekeep' when I read it a few months ago, I finished 'There are Rivers in the Sky' which I like a lot, but didn't love. And just began a few days ago 'The Siege' by Ben Macintyre, who writes fabulous history for laypeople. This one is about the 1980 take over of the Iranian Embassy in London and the 26 hostages inside the building. So far, it is very good. BTW: I am finding as I age that I enjoy reading just one book at a time, that is a big change for me.

What a lovely discussion with your guest! ☺
Okay, everybody seems to be impressed and loving THE SAFEKEEP. So I ordered it to my bookstore (which surprisingly enough does not seem to stock the booker longlist anymore by default...) and will pick it up next week. I have to see what it's all about. :)

This Bright Dust sounds like a Heidi book too! Lovely mystery guest chat.
