Sylvia Campbell said the last time she spoke with her son Dalton Harris, was in October. Then the singer had spoken about him growing up in dirt poor conditions.
Campbell insists that things were not as bad as Dalton made it out to be, adding that although she did not get electricity at her home until 2002, they were happy.
“Wi ah di fuss people inna Sanguinetti to have a play station,” she said.
Campbell said that her family ate lots of chicken back and tin mackerel for protein, but they were never starving.
She said too, that the family was never desperate, even though she was forced to go it alone as a single parent. She said that after her son made the comment about growing up dirt poor, he called her and they spoke about it.
“Mi ah talk to him ‘bout long time days and me seh; ‘Dalton, ah yuh mi ah wait pon to buy me the dream house,” Campbell said.
The mother of seven, who lives in a rented house in Sanguinetti, is hoping that her son will one day build a two-storey house in the community for the enjoyment of the family.
“Him have a song weh him sing. Pauper. Part of it weh hit me ah wen him seh: ‘mi madda need bread and butter.’ Mi need bread and butter now. Ah time fi me get me bread and butter now,” she said.
“Mi want fi can enjoy some ah weh him have, if ah even fi memba seh ah mi did carry him come here nine months,” she added.
Dalton, who won the Digicel rising Stars competition in Jamaica when he was not yet 17 years old, left his mother’s house when he was 15. Campbell said that she did not benefit from his success.
“Me used to pull a little suitcase and sell things and one day him seh: Mommy, yuh inna di sun ah toil eeh man, but things ah guh better fi wi,” Campbell said.
Campbell said that during the days when she campaigned to help him win votes when he competed in the Rising Stars competition, her son promised to take her out of poverty.
She said that after he won the competition, he gave her $2,000 and 50 phone cards and then $20,000 out of his $1 million winnings.
Campbell also rubbished claims that Dalton has 22 siblings. She said she is aware of one son that Dalton’s father had outside their relationship.

Campbell said events of the past two weeks confirm to her that ‘di bwoy don’t like mi’.
And even though Dalton is tipped to win X Factor UK this year. Campbell said she will not be watching it on TV.
“Mi happy fi weh him ah do. Mi feel proud fi weh him ah do, and mi always ah guh still love him.” she said.
“Mi wish him all the best in the competition,” she said, even as she appealed to him not to alienate himself from family members back home.
“Him sister dying to see him come, so even if him nah come back come and look fi wi, I hope him remember ah mi still ah him madda and him have a sister and brothers who ah look forward fi see him,” she said.

The sad thing is, Dalton never said anything bad about his mother! He said they were poor and his mom worked hard to provide what she could! Why is she running her mouth and why is she trying to knock her son down? She should be over the moon proud of Dalton!! It is truly sad when you can’t even say your mother is your biggest fan! Thank God that he has a sister and niece who loves him and really is so very proud of him!
Dalton is an amazing young man and so humble and grateful for everyone who has supported him throughout his life. Plus, he is freaking awesome and so very talented!! His voice is so beautiful.

I believe that if Dalton knew that all this crapp would happen he would not have said anything about where he's from! I believe the reason he spoke about his past was just to show (mainly youths) especially those who think that "life dun fi dem", they can still make it. He didn't go on x factor to dis NO ONE! He just wanted people to know that hard work and determination. ......never giving up will get you where you want to go. Obviously his mom have no where going, she want him to bring her... but mam that's not how you go about it, you're making it harder for yourself.

I agree that she should take responsibility for her mistakes and apologise to her son, but we don't know if she has made an effort to do that and it was rejected. Why is it that some parents have this idea that children’s have look after them, it’s blessings when children make something of themselves and remember their parents. Trust me mi rate this vlogger I love the way you put it and say it. All of a sudden Dalton was lying, but now she is admitting the abuse. Dalton said in an IG message that he had no reason to lie, because there are too many proves to his story, and he was right. She needs to stop going to media house to media house to give them stories to talk about her and Dalton. Mother STOP! Contradicting yourself, from once you stop throwing the gas on the fire, it will stop blazing. As I say again, creating a problem doesn't solve the problem. Work it out and be happy for your son. Stop saying you not going to watch him in the final, thats a hate talk, you said you love him, what change? Stop listening to the media and people and do what you have to do to make this work with your son.
This will take time and therapy. This is a message to the Jamaican and British government to provide social services to these type of single parents in the Caribbean.

I have news for you guys, most Jamaican parents are not humblying themselves in front of any kids no matter what age they are. They see themselves as the authority, and the one large and in charge even until they or their children die. They might muster up an apology, but humble themselves in front of a kid, even when they are grown . . . good luck on that one. A nuh so it go at all. . . . "children obey your parents . . . honor your mother and your father (that means take care of them if you are in a better position than them). I pray for this mother that she will find a way to love herself and and therefore love her children better. When a person picks men who abuse them and their children, they are suffering from lack of self love and needs to get counceling. Hope they all get the counseling they might need. What a piece of work! That boy must have gone through. I know I had a mother who hated me and cursed me all the time. Dalton never said anything bad about her , he just talked about his rough childhood. I know it wasn't easy for her. I have 4 children and I wasn't exactly mother of the year, but I wasn't cruel to them. I felt guilty and have made amends to them. I don't want to be a burden to my children ever. God has blessed Dalton from day one. God loves Dalton and loads of people love him! He was born to be a star, I LOVE his humility and pray he stays close to Christ. God can heal the mother and Dalton from childhood hurts!I know because He has done it for me.

I had it VERY BAD living with my mom from teenage yrs. I run way from my mom because I didn't like living with her when I did move back after being separated from my ex husband. My mom behaved like she was possess and when I finally decided to move out after bout 3 times, I never moved back. I am now in a foreign country and my mom act like she love me now. I forgive her though.
To Dalton's mother stop making him feel unloved and you finally told about the abuse your man friend had done to him. As a mother I never request anything just pray that my children do for me from the heart and if not it's alright. I don't understand why some of these parents feel as if once their child gets somewhere in life, they think their obligated to be given what their child has worked hard for. If your child/children feel as If they want to give you something or take care of you, so be it. However, some parents shouldn't behave as if it is mandatory. So she should have NEVER done interviews as it would NEVER have gone in her favour. The harsh reality is, even if Dalton made "made up his story, the rest of the world can only see an extremely talented young man. I believe it was her clap back that backfired and turned the public's attention on her in a way she never expected. Because Dalton is a stand up guy, I believe he will buy his mother a house. A lot of Jamaican parents don't realize how fragile some of the children emotions are and how much they hurt their children with the things they say, but for what its worth most of them really love their kids. I know that mother did not want her son to go in front of a bus and let it run over him and she probably should not say that at all, but sometimes out of frustration and hardship crazy things come out of the mouth of some of these people in authority. A rough life make some people say rough and harsh things at times. I hope you can both forgive each other and do a more progressive thing. That mother is not a gold digger, she just simply wants her son to buy her a nice house because he now has the means to and she doesnt.

If I was Dalton I wouldn't give her nothing she was a wicked mother to him and now she want a reward for her behaviour.
