    Looks like a nice day out in the woods and some nice food! Loved the feather sticking. Something which I struggle to do without sending the bits all over the place resulting in me ending up with just thin sticks 👀🤣
    Cheers 🍻

      Cheers Mike 👍. Great to hear from you mate. I hope that you have been keeping well. I've ended up with plenty of thin sticks doing feathers in the past. Just about finding a technique that works for you really. Missed watching your jollies mate. Looking forward to watching your new adventures. Take care. Atb, J 👍🍻.

    Hello Jason, that was fantastic to be honest, straight into it with the feather sticks and then that recovery of the fire was master class, at that point it's touch and go but to see it and sort it is awesome in my book👍👍. As for the food...oh yeah looked great, you can always tell if the food is tasty when the bushcraft chef immediately
    goes mmmm...look forward to your trip on the severn, really pleased too see you able to get out and the cooking was fab, cheers mate.

      Thank you Chris for another wonderful comment, I really appreciate your support mate. Was definitely touch and go at one point but was lucky enough to be able to rescue it, this time around. Really enjoyed the food. Feels like an eternity since I last cooked up in the woods. I'd really missed it. Been meaning to ask you for a while now Chris. Was wondering if you work as a chef or is it just a passion of yours mate. Atvb, J 👍.

      @@SandybackOutdoors Hi, when I first arrived in the UK 20 years ago I needed work and accomodation, so I washed pots in a hotel. From there moved into chefing but briefly, the split shifts were a no no and I would gaze out the window and wish i was out there, so I studied horticulture and got into gardening which is what I do now, though about 5 months ago the hotel where I worked closed for good and I was made redundent. No work since then so having to go self employed soon but glad to be away from the Kitchen😎

      @@northernembersoutdoors1045 I thought that you had some training in a kitchen. It really shows in the quality of your dishes. Sorry to hear about your job. Good luck with the self employment mate, I really do hope that it works out for you. Take care and I hope that you have a great weekend buddy. Cheers, J 👍.

    Nice one Jason, looked lovely grub . Those pouches of tuna etc are great with rice and a few other bits chucked in. Great for pack rafting and canoe multi dayers etc.
    My sort of staple meals, quick, easy, filling and you get your calories. Few cheese n oat cakes for seconds and a mug of coffee 😀. Bang on.
    Cheers J mate, cant beat the chilled out feather sticks n a camp ball. Ivreckon you could have showered those feathers will a few sparks and been straight into it 😉.

      Thank you Rick, appreciated mate 👍. I usually prefer simple food but sometimes I enjoy trying to cook up something a bit more adventurous. I'm liking the sound of the cheese and oat cakes. I'll have to get myself some of those. I'll probably include lighting the feather sticks in another video at some point, just to try and mix things up a bit. Many thanks again Rick. Cheers mate. Some great skills there J 👌
    I got some cramp balls recently, but they have been extremely damp, how do you go about drying them out? I'm a massive seafood fan so in my eyes the food looked smashing 😋

    • @SandybackOutdoors
      @SandybackOutdoors  3 года назад +1

      Cheers Steve, I really do appreciate that. To dry the cramp balls, I usually store them in a paper bag and place them on top of a radiator for a couple of days. I hope that helps. Can't go wrong with a nice bit of seafood either. Thanks again mate. Take care. Atb, J 👍.

      @@SandybackOutdoors I'll try that, put mine in a drying room with a dehumidifier and it was still soggy. Your food was very similar to a paella. I know most people hate seafood but I love it. Hopefully once we are out of this crap, if you're up for it we could have a meet up? I have just bought a kayak and practicing on local canals, so maybe we could have a day out paddling?

    I never know with these Smartphone cameras what is straight on or reversed which, raises the question, are you what we West Midlands Black Country Folk call, 'Cack Handed' i.e. a Left Hooker? The reverse pull technique is excellent in my humble opinion as I often have wrist straps supporting old age aches and pains and this method give greater control for shavings and feather sticks albeit, I would usually jam my knife into a lump of wood so no need to brace it against my knee with my other hand etc. Can't beat Tuna, it will go with almost anything - it looked like great SCOFF.

    • @SandybackOutdoors
      @SandybackOutdoors  3 года назад +1

      Ha ha, observant as always Robert 👍. Yeah I'm definitely "cack handed" predominantly, although I also do quite a lot of tasks right handed. Can't write right handed, so not truly ambidextrous. The reverse pull technique is great for control and one I tend to use quite a lot. Many thanks for watching and another great comment. I hope that you are keeping well my friend. Take care. Atvb, J 👍.

    • @SandybackOutdoors
      @SandybackOutdoors  3 года назад +1

      @@RobertsBulgaria No, right handed and boxed right handed too. I missed out on the SLR. Was the SA80 for me mate. Got a fair bit of use out of the Lee-Enfield 303 back in the army cadets though.

    • @RobertsBulgaria

      @@SandybackOutdoors I am told that my Grandfather (my Father's side) was fully ambidextrous, could write with his right hand, put down the pen, pick it up with his left and continue without any noticeable difference. I'm right handed, but left footed, give me a racket it goes into my right hand, give me a cricket bat, it goes left side, I lead punch with my right, but jab with my left. I've never played anything more serious than crazy golf, but again, I want to hit the ball from my left side although, I can putt with my right. Never would ever consider shooting from the left shoulder albeit, those guys are an asset in Urban Conflict such as on the streets of Belfast during the Troubles. I've had the privilege of firing many different military weapons, but I never fired the .303 Lee Enfield, must have been some kick back for young Cadets.

      @@RobertsBulgaria My Grandfather, on my Mother's side was the only other member of the family to be a leftie. Unfortunately the SA80 was only ever made to be fired by a right handed shooter and like you I enjoyed firing a massive array of weaponry. As I remember the 303 was quite a beast but a very beautiful one at that. Something quite enjoyable about using a bolt action rifle. I'd love the opportunity to fire one again.
