Hey Curt, 1)How high is the upper horizontal end from your deck railing and 2)what's the total length of your pole? Thanks! I got inspiration from you and am building one now!
Hey, the horizontal bar is 6’ from the deck railing and the total length of the vertical upright is 10’. Glad to hear that you got value out of this hope your implementation works out as well as mine has!
It's a tail rest. Woodpeckers like to use their tails for support to stay vertical when on the sides of trees and such. The wood let's them do that when they're eating suet.
So if you enjoy watching the squirrels struggle for food is solution as long as you need to do is add hot cayenne pepper and a Hot Chili Pepper to the bird feeder it will not harm the birds but the squirrels and all other unwanted Critters don't like it cuz it's too hot for them and they will leave the bird feeder or alone
I have tried hot peppers, cumin, garlic and hot sauce. Even greased the pole with vicks vapor rub. Nothing works but a 22 rifle. I'm not gonna hot wire the pole.
I wish I could do this. I'm so frustrated with the squirrels here. They are so intelligent and persistent. They find their way to the feeder in spite of the baffle that I have.
@@reggierendert6494 Petroleum jelly works for a day or two maximum, or till the next rain which here it rains almost every day. That is not a permanent solution. Who has the time to apply petroleum jelly every single day? I don't, unfortunately
@@jyotikijyoti wow, you must get tons of rain! I live in NC and, at most, apply it every couple of Mos. It's probably been 6 Mos since last application but they rarely even try anymore. They try it once and they're done...they hate getting it on them. I've never seen it get washed off in rain tho.
That's a great set up. But if you ever get tired of using power, all you need is one dome baffle on the pole a foot or so below the lowest point of your feeders. They can't climb over the baffle.
The average American watches 5 hours of tv a day. This was made in about that much time and it solves a problem while providing enduring enjoyment. Sure it's work but most people have the time and you get something cool for it.
Now that you’ve denied squirrels a source of food ! Do you plan on making a squirrel feeder? They love all kinds of raw nuts and seeds ! They are fun to watch and sometimes they need a little love too !….❤️🐿 !
Thanks for responding to my comment !…Squirrels love cashews and walnuts and peanuts ! I’m glad you also treat our squirrel friends every now and then, that’s awesome ! And yes squirrels do seem to find a way to eat very well !… amazing little creatures !….
Design number two is a winner, brilliant construction, thank you for sharing.
Very well thought out, with impressive application.

@@CurtBagne Thank you!
Where in Michigan did you take this video?
Farmington Hills
Well done. Pretty much my same Design. 100% effective, without all that odd crap obstructing your view.
Exactly!
You should put up a camera with motion activation. It would be fun to see squirrels getting zapped!
There's a better video on YT where the guy does exactly that! Google: Squirrel zapper. Enjoy! :)
That really does solve the problem of squirrels completely. Any other "solution" can be circumvented by the squirrels, eventually.
Hi! Is it still working? Thanks!
I had to repair the connection between the wire supplying the power to the electrodes on the pole once, but otherwise undefeated!
I hung a slinky. The pole goes thru the slinky with the bottom of slinky hanging approx 3 feet off the ground. They cannot climb.
That's clever! I bet it's fun to watch too.
Awesome!!!
Is the pole grounded or do you attach a return wire to the zapper?
I have a two conductor wire running from the energizer to this pole assembly. The ground wire goes directly to the pole.
What is the wood panel at the bottom of the suet feeder for ?

If you built a vertical metal post, it could cause lighting strike in Florida areas.
That's why we GROUND them.
You've got Pileated Woodpeckers in your area, I'm jealous. 😄
Yes sir, seeing them is always a treat.
Cool!
I'd rather wire up lethal voltage, then I can help feed the local redtails & Bobcats! The more you know about grey squirrels, the less you like them.
They are a pain in the ass!!
Tree rats
I've got mine wired to 120vac but even that doesn't kill them. They stay well away from the post though.
Best solution ever, even looks good.
I don’t have trouble with squirrels I have trouble with pesky starlings!
If they're invasive to your area you'd be well justified to plink them with a BB gun.
Great solution, nice voice you have, soothing.

Why would he do that when he solved the problem ?
@@sherrykendrick1765 .22 works even better than adding juice to the pole.
I tried it last year, not working..
@sherrykendrick1765 I did tried spicy foods on them but not working too.
Can you make a bird proof squirrel feeder?
Yeah, I think so. Would you like to commission one?
I wish I could do this. I'm so frustrated with the squirrels here. They are so intelligent and persistent. They find their way to the feeder in spite of the baffle that I have.
Hey, petroleum jelly on the upright pole and you're set. Make sure the feeder is high enough and not near anything they can jump from. That's it.

@ Julie J....Check out Chris Notap of Canada and his squirrel resistant feeder. You MIGHT have to have somebody build it for You but worth the look?
Remington makes a selection of squirrel ' determinants'.

The Lord created the squirrel to show people how to be more persistent in solving problems.
epic.
Are you related to Nicholas Cage?
I am not but I've definitely heard that before.
Takes "CLIMB-IT CHANGE" to a whole new level.
*GROAN!!*
Badddddd ! Pun 4 fun.
👍👍
We prefer to feed the native red squirrels, not those nasty greys.
tooo much trouble electro this n that...jus put PVC around entire length of metal pole...slide on from bottom ... chill out
think he's bored n over thinks this stuff.
Yeah I have an active mind and like to make things. Sure beats the alternative.
Too much work 🤦♂️

thought so too.
During this whole video I did not see one bird either

I throw them cashews every so often. They're cool and eat very well.

I think the squirrels would agree that using electricity is breaking the rules and anti-squirrel measures should be limited to mechanical engineering
Wow....you outwitted a squirrel...
My proudest achievement.
baffle would have worked
