If you look at the history of the Monte Carlo, all the way back to 1970, its signature style included unique "fender bulges" of one sort or another, and usually vertical tail lights. This version was a retro throwback to that, after the car had been off the market for a number of years.

    • @SaberWulfGold
      @SaberWulfGold 4 года назад +1

I thought the vertical taillights looked familiar! I like this design.

This was also when NASCAR was still largely based off production vehicles, so some of the design was that way because it was beneficial on the track.

I had one of these cars. A 2000 SS. I loved the design and highway comfort. The reliability was terrible. The worst part was the transmission was too weak for the base model and they kept it for the SS. The huge trunk, hood, and doors were my favorite part. It reminded me of when parts of cars were designed for styling rather than practicality. Too many cars follow the same egg look today. You can't even tell makers apart anymore.

Great work... One major criticism: I think you missed that the rear shoulder/fender line element doesn't actually end at the frame of the taillight housing. If you were to continue the line across the lens of the taillight on the original, it actually separates the top and bottom circular lights. In the redesign, I think it was a missed opportunity to exploit this, and separate the top and bottom lights with that seemingly awkward shoulder line.
    Love your work though!

  • @rwieber79

When they made the 2000's Monte Carlo they were using cues from the earlier 70s and 80s Monte Carlos to keep the heritage because the Monte Carlo when it was made had a big following of car lovers similar to how the Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds and so on have fans that want to see new styles but also want it to have cues from the older models so that you can look at it and say hey that's a Monte Carlo or Mustang or whatever without having to look for the badging to tell what it is. Also some of these cars came with a supercharged 3.8 V6 with 240HP. I have an 2004 Dale Jr Edition with that engine and for what it is it will move pretty good. Then around 2006 when the updated the design just a bit the SS went from having the SC V6 to actually having a V8 again like the 80s models did.

I really liked the changes you made. The Monte Carlo that era looked to me like they changed a Lumina, which was a 4 door sedan into a 2 door sport model. The rear proportions of the 2001 MC (door back) never looked right. The Monte Carlo always had a 6ft. + long hood (1970-1977) and that was an important characteristic.

I really love your designs! I don't know if you did this on purpose or not. The model you did was a revival of the Monte Carol from the 70's. The tail light they used was paying tribute to the 73-77 tail lights. The tail light you put in the redesign, I feel, is much like the tail lights on the original models, 70-72. Just wondered. If it was unplanned, I think it shows how design flows into itself.

Only other think I'd do differently is I'd take some of the other styles of wheels they had back in 2000s and update those too and instead of them being 16" like back then I'd probably go 18 or 19".

I want to see you do some Saab stuff! So sad to me that you are from Sweden and haven’t yet. I love the 99-02 9-3 the most and I think that since it’s hatchback design was so ergonomic and functional I would love to see you take it on!

I loved my 1973 Monte Carlo. A very long hood, Swivel bucket seats, small opera windows.

Not a fan of the large spoke rims but pretty good overall. That generation of Monte Carlo had an aggressive stance that showed some muscle car lineage.

That’s really cool. Do the Lincoln Mark VIII next if you want a quirky car from that era. But make it an electric car.

Firstly, I have yet to even finish the video but I love any attention to the ‘00-05 sixth gen MC SS. My sister owned a ‘76, I owned an ‘84 then a ‘03 and still own a ‘04 MCSS today. The history of the MC is a personal luxury car. A new concept back in its original launch. It had trademark design queues, long hood, long back deck, bulging front and rear quarters, large side mirrors. Pls note that when the 2000 redesign launched it was all about winning NASCAR. The sixth gen MC had one of the best Coefficient of drag numbers for a modern car at the time. Several components of the production vehicle made it onto Nascar tracks, like the hood, rear deck, quarters, roof etc. So the design was good for 200mph runs. Thats impressive. The MC was killed by GM making 2007 the final year to pave way for the yet to be released 2010 fifth gen Camaro. GM did not find it profitable to try and have a two door coupe like the MC compete with the Camaro. I know the 200HP is anemic for the sixth gen (without the supercharger) but the MCSS is a beautiful highway cruiser. I still own a low mileage ‘04 SS. Love it!

Cool, love what you did to the rear, absolutely hate the low-pro wheel/tire combo, but otherwise a nice modern reinterpretation😊👍

I like the re-done rear, though kinda missing the unique reverse lights and the license plate slot. But, I'm not a fan of the wheels, it could just be THOSE wheels you chose, but I always liked the 5-star stock wheels that the picture originally had at 5:12. But overall, I guess it looks good, varying on how the front looks, and I hope whenever GM decides to revive the Monte Carlo, like they did with the Blazer, they don't turn the two door coupe into a two door compact car or something stupid like that.

Fun fact about the Monte Carlo and my life is back in 2013ish probably a buddy and I took his dads 2005 Monte Carlo out and well it flipped 5 times into a cornfield out in the country lol. Nobody was hurt just sore the next few days but we called a buddy to come out flip it over and drag it back to his place. No police or Ems came out luckily. Now my father has a 1999 model that is all original down to the tires that has 10,000 original miles on it and wins car shows all the time. So myself and the Monte Carlo have some long history together.

The car was an collaboration between Chevrolet, Dale Earnhardt inc, Richard childress racing and a former crew chief of Dale Earnhardt who started his own race team. That car was all about aerodynamics and downforce. Which I believe to this day holds the record for the most wins. To this day I still love the looks of it. Plus I own the Dale Jr signature series supercharged Monte Carlo SS. that I bought brand new in 04.

I've got the feeling, this car originally was designed as a UTE, but later they changed their mind, so just simply put on a rear window and a trunk lid, and they called the day.

I actually own a 2001 chevy monte carlo and with the body is designed specifically for the track cause back than NASCAR based all their cars off production vehicles the Monte Carlo is just easy to portray in NASCAR and I will say that even with the low powered v6 this car is fun to drive easy to handle and you can make it take just about any curve however the power on it sucks definitely upgrading to the 3.8 supercharged motor eventually

I like the redesign of this. That rear looks more like a Cadillac and it works. It has styling more like a true GT car now. I’ve never liked that rear end before you changed it. I think the wheels are a bit big but it did need bigger than what was stock. That line flow you don’t like is a throwback to the early 70’s Montes. The fenders were shaped similarly and were very prominent in the look of that car. But they serve no purpose other than that. Well done sir. All we need is a decent 300hp power plant then GM on the phone.
