I'm Polish and I've always wondered why Łódź is called that since there is no water, no river, no lakes there. And literally a few days ago I was watching a RUclips video of some foreigner. He was at the Tourist Information point and there he was told that there were a lot of small water canal in Łódź, so it was a good location for an industrial city that Łódź used to be.

Sarah, regarding that kid cursing this way at home. What is he? 7? 8? Unfortunately it looks as if he was brought up in some seriously dysfunctional family. I can’t possibly imagine ever taking like that in front of my parents when I was so small. Also, a lot of foreigners seem to normalize the k… word in Polish, just as if it was a natural coma used everywhere. I can assure you and you probably know yourself that this is a very strong swear word and people who use it frequently present a total lack of manners. Most Polish people don’t use such words that often.

On the note of crane climbing: Sometimes it the only to do it. For ex. in the US (and Canada) telecom maintenance technicians do free-climbing on cellphone towers and radio-station antennas. And we're talking about hundreds of feet high structures. They secure themselves only when resting or on the top of the tower doing their job.
Example, YT video: *_Climbing The World's Tallest Radio Tower_*

The name "Łódź" might have its root from medival times or even before that, when traders and merchants used rivers to travel and move their goods, possibly faster and safer way. Łodź migh have been a place they took to rest and slowy over time the city was created.

EDM and disco polo are NOT the same. Disco Polo is like a totally different kind of its own - a cheesy simple synth music with overly emotional or raunchy lyrics... a very poor taste genre in general. Wouldn't recommend. I'm not saying EDM can't be lousy, but it comes from club environment and electronic music scene, while disco polo has more of a rural festive-dancing roots, starting back from late '80 and has survived somehow to this day, mostly because it seems to be easily percieved by many while drunk... 🥴
Once you get the idea you'll be able to distinguish it correctly. I bet it was an EDM you heard in fitness clubs and many other places, not disco polo. That one in the TikTok wasn't a disco polo either. It was an EDM track - we can argue whether it is a tasteful one (not so much in my opinion), but it's still a much higher class music compared to disco polo. Don't exactly know why someone said it satisfies their east european urge... - I may guess it was meant to be more about dancing or "partying hard" than the music itself? Or maybe because this music reminds a balkan music a bit? Maybe this was the logic here... still an EDM track though, a pretty popular in its time, but more of a balkan music electronic mix, definitely nothing in common with Poland or disco polo.
