    Some people won't believe this, but Loretta actually dined at my home in Atlantic City back in the late 80's. I had grilled chicken and sausage and my Dad was living with me and my boyfriend at the time. We laughed and laughed...when it was time to eat the chicken, she said 'honey I don't think this chicken is cooked all the way,,,, a little to pink for me" I of course re fired the chicken and she taught me how to tell when it was really 'done' Love this lady!

    I have enjoyed Ms Holloway's performance many, many times. One of my favorites is "Guess Who I Saw Today." She delivers a passionate interpretation of this classic. I also admire her fantastic interpretation of "Strange Fruit" and "I've Never Been To Me." I wish her many years of success!!!

    Nice! Creative! Interesting! And although she has a very nice voice, she did not try singing the vocal and instrumental arrangement made famous by Nancy Wilson, which we've all enjoyed hearing Nancy sing this song forever, always superbly and beautifully! But, Ms. Holloway made it her own! I loved her rendition and I am sure so many others did, also! I salute her and commend her for stepping out of the box! I too am a professional jazz-singer pianist who does the same thing with most of my songs! It feels freeing and refreshing! And the audience appreciates and deserves it! So nice to hear other singers like Ms. Holloway bring individual creativity, interest, and newness to her vocal arrangements! Beside all that, she has a voice and can really sing! I'd like to see more singers give support and show more appreciation to one another and not wallow in jealousy! No need for that, when our gifts make room for all of us! And there will always be room!

    In reply to James Zanker's critique: While I appreciated "Ms. Marilyn Maye's seasoned version of "Guess Who I Saw Today," I was neither drawn into the song nor believed her "experience" of the "discovery."
    After all, the lyrics suggest that the song IS a conversation...one sided perhaps, but a conversation non the less. Thank you for taking the time to look and listen.

    Very charismatic, beautiful lady singing song with full understanding of the words and atmosphere that goes with them. Great acting and singing on a par with the best without a benefit of full orchestra to build a real drama.
    Just think about A. Hitchcock's movies without a great music tracks.

    I've not heard of her before but I would like to hear more. This was a very dramatic presentation but I don't care for too much 'talk' within a song. This is a song that has to be sung! Check out the ORIGINAL version by Carmen McRae that she did in the late 50's when the song was written for her. It's on an album/CD called "After Glow"! It is the standard for me!!

      Hello Ahmasi Lloyd..thank you for taking the time to listen to MY VERSION of this classic Nancy Wilson song. There is an "ART" in delivering a lyric interspersed with a melody as well as spoken. Understand that this IS A "CONVERSATION"...one-sided at best between a woman seeing her "True Love" from afar obviously in "love with another woman" after all "SHE COULD SEE IT FROM CLEAR ACROSS THE ROOM." She could have been angry as she quietly told her LOVER of what she had "SEEN" that afternoon of his betrayal. Nonetheless, I CHOSE to deliver MY DISCOVERY with a more calm and controlled HURT. Thus, my interpretation. I believe my message was received and final. Thank you again for listening... LORETTA HOLLOWAY

    WELL, OK! Now, we all know this is Nancy Wilson's song. But Loretta's performance, to me, was more realistic and emotional than Nancy's. Chante Moore was good at this song also, along with Eartha Kitt's phony French Acent Version

    This doesn't come close to Nancy Wilson's rendition. Ms. Holloway is not singing, she is telling a story.

    I'm sorry but "First Lady of Song" applies to one person and one person only. No matter what city, state, country, planet or galaxy. And that is the unparalleled Ella.

    • @lorettaholloway7657

      Hello Music Man...granted the title THE FIRST LADY OF SONG definitely belongs to ELLA FITZGERALD, HOWEVER, I was official proclaimed by the Senate of South Carolina as "SOUTH CAROLINA'S OFFICIAL FIRST LADY OF SONG." SOUTH CAROLINA recognized me as that. The ANDERSON County Council also recognized me by official PROCLAMATION as an ANDERSON COUNTY TREASURE. I appreciate your opinion and take no offence. Respectfully yours, LORETTA HOLLOWAY "SOUTH CAROLINA'S OFFICIAL FIRST LADY OF SONG"

      Hi. I meant no offense and having enjoyed your instrument for many years agree that honors are due. It's not your fault the title is...unfortunate. IMO there's Ella, Sass and everybody else. Just my .02. As I said, I've always enjoyed your voice and it is after all just my opinion, and I enjoy many, many other singers, and you are certainly one of them. I wore a hole in 'Cry To Me.' :-D

  • @sopranosd

    Gorgeous performer with great voice, but this is the most indulgent, overdone performance of this (or any) song. There was no need to set the scene as it were, and the breaks in the song just drag. All you have to do is sing with authenticity and a song will sell. Pushing the theatrics ruins the performance.

    • @VeteranAryan
      @VeteranAryan 7 лет назад

      Well...I tend to fault most performers in that they sing the song as a song and don't sing it to the husband. With this acting job that isn't the problem. With this overwrought version, though, it becomes somewhat of a cartoon instead of a tastefully wistful expression inside a blues number, as it is with Miss Nancy Wilson.

    • @lorettaholloway7657
      @lorettaholloway7657 6 лет назад +2

      To Veteran Aryan: Perhaps you have had the good fortune of never being "Betrayed by someone you thought loved you as you loved them. In that case you most fortunate, however, this interpretation is neither cartoonish in its delivery but a building up to "expose" the discovery. I fail to see how as this "conversation unfolds to reveal the hurt and sting of accidentally discovering that the person you loved is having an "affair" with someone else would make this interpretation a "Wistful nor tastefully expression" of any kind. Secondly, this JAZZ CLASSIC is not considered a "Blues." I do appreciate your opinion and thank you for listening.

      Dear jazzyblue...this was NOT A PLAY..but my "Interpretation of the meaning of the "LYRICS and ITS STORY" . I take that as a compliment that you "thought" this was a "Play" or a "SCENE"....which in it's self validates MY UNDERSTANDING as well as DELIVERING a lyric. No sing-song version for me...thank you though for your comment and observation. LORETTA HOLLOWAY
