    Saved my butt with your video. I was replacing my daughter's 24 year old hot water heater and ran into the old PVC being expanded and the couplers wouldn't fit. I was ready to call a plumber and eat crow but decided to Google a resolution. Kudos to you!!! Picked up a heat gun and I was back in business! ❤

    Your a genius. I have a 2500 gallon water tank and irrigation pump that broke at a PVC joint on the suction side. After cutting away the broken pipe the new 2 inch couplers would not fit. Your heat gun and soap trick helped me fix it in under an hour. I plan to leak test tomorrow after I let the glue set for 24 hours. Thank you so much.

    It’s crazy how often I come across oversized PVC. Back in the late 70’s to early 80’s apparently the different manufacturers all had the same ID but to prevent different brand fittings and pipes from being used they changed their OD just ever so slightly. I work for a large water utility company. We end up having to use Bolted Couplings to connect our copper or brass pipe to their private lines.
    This by far gives a cleaner appearance. When we are done my work all get buried. Great video and great tip.

    If you have cracks or holes you can soak pvc with the glue softening it . Then take your fingers pinch it closed like clay. It re hardens in a few hours strong as new.

The pipe in the ground is 40 yr old thin wall 3" pvc and there are no couplers available anywhere I have searched. Doing this with a 3" sked 40 coupler should work. Another tip for a solid glue connection is to debur the ends of the pipe after it's cut. If not the ridge left after cutting will just push the glue into the fitting when the pipe is pushed in. Like a syringe. You don't want that syringe effect.

    I'm installing a drain pipe in my yard. French drain from retaining wall to a channel by back porch. Then I need to connect a PVC pipe or some type of hose that is smaller in size to go through a backwall fitting. It barely rains in Phoenix but, since ground is hard, when it does my backyard floods and water sits for several days. So , since it doesnt rain a lot I'm not concerned about the smaller pipe not keeping up with water filling drains.

    FYI if you don't have a heat gun, you can stick a piece of PVC, or plastic conduit in the exhaust pipe of your truck with a rag as a gasket to force the exhaust through the pipe and it will get soft so you can bend it all around.

      You always get some primer/cement inside the pipe. It dries fairly quick, and what doesn't dry, turns to a white looking thin plastic when water comes into contact. You always flush the system after doing repairs. This well is used for lawn watering. Thanks for watching!

    You missed a golden opportunity to put in a union, which would make future repairs much easier. Oops.

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  4 года назад

      No oops. It's a waste of money. In South Florida we rarely replace a quality cast iron pump housing, we unbolt the motor and install a new motor.

    • @WhatDadIsUpTo
      @WhatDadIsUpTo 4 года назад

      electronicsNmore
      Precisely. I am a plumber of 48 years experience and a union between an outlet pipe from a pump and the pump only makes sense. Even if you unbolt the pump and put a new one on, you still have to re-connected to the service line and a union will facilitate just that. End of story.

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  4 года назад

      No, when you replace only the motor, you don't have to touch the pipes! End of story.

      electronicsNmore
      And what if you cannot find an exact replacement motor? In that case, the dimensions will be different. Either way, the union and the valve each side of the pump makes it a lot easier to change stuff out. I guess we can agree to disagree, but like I said, I did this kind of work for 48 years, so I am not just shooting from the hip, as it were.

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  4 года назад +2

      Hello. There was no reason to spend the extra money because the cast iron pump housing is very well made, and we normally replace only the motor. The motor simply unbolts. Thanks for watching!

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  4 года назад

      Not really necessary, usually you swap out the motor when it fails, not the entire unit. The motor unbolts easily. Thanks for watching!

    Very nice but, would have been more interesting if no flexibility between pump and well point. Most likely would have had to cut out the old elbow and extended new pipe to the horizontal pipe.😏

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  4 года назад

      For no flexibility I would've used a new PVC elbow, short section of pipe, and (2) couplings. One of the couplings would be modified into "Full" slip like I show in my other video below.

    Why in all hell would a pvc pipe not fit into a coupling of the same size? This happened to me today where a 3/4" pipe fit the coupling fine on one side but didn't fit on the other side. So apparently, you have to purchase a heat gun to make them fit properly. Why aren't employees at home improvement stores like Home Depot or Lowes aware of this and inform customers of this potential problem?

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  2 года назад

      Must be due to heating of the pvc pipe under pressure.

  • @briangc1972

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  4 года назад

      No, way too much work. The amount it's off is too much to sand. You don't need a $100 heat gun, you can use a $20 heat gun, or boiling hot water. Thanks for watching!
