there's been a gradual acclimation to new ideas, tools, palettes...to a 'sudden' realization that all the slogging thru outdated mindsets & too many options fell away as the simplest decisions echoed childlike joy, & not having a goal allowed a flow state to 'take over'... you invariably shape in words a/some shape(s) that coalesce to a finished point, a release... well done.
A good reminder to keep it simple. Some of my best pieces come from limiting my palette and keeping the visual story simple. Thanks for the reminder and inspiration, Jackike!
The most fun I ever had in an art class (online) was when we took a spontaneous family vacation on the weekend that the class dropped. I packed very few supplies (paint, paper, brushes) because I was going to wait until we got home to do the class. I had to scrounge up a stapler, scissors, and a couple paper clips, which I was extremely happy to have found in the house. Because I didn’t have any stamps, I ended up drawing terrible pictures that I adore. The limited supplies forced me to be more creative and it was awesome:) Thanks for sharing this great video, collages, and advice 😊
I love your videos and always learn something that sticks with me when I'm making art. Ive been dragging out everything in all the boxes since I was a child but I have noticed when I limit my choices the work is always better. Thank you so very much
Very interesting collages! Beeing overwhelmed happens to me quite often as I am a highly sensitive person. I get nervous pretty soon. On my happy days, the juices flow, the next day I get stuck. Most of the times the reason for this is too much material, too much choices, I totally agree with you. Cleaning up my table most of the times helps and also setting limitations. I watch every video from you! Thank you for sharing.

Hi, Jackie I am 100% in agreement with you on limitations. I am very familiar with decision paralysis. I get overwhelmed easily. I want to spend more time doing, and less time deciding. I got a watercolor journal and a set of watercolor pencils for Christmas. I decided to limit the journal to water based materials that are not acrylic. This still gives me Neocolor II, watercolor paints (3 small sets, one metallic) and gouache to play with, besides the watercolor pencils. My first pages are limited to 7 colors, 2 warm, 1 cool, and 4 neutral. I will also be using black, white, and a set of sepia pens. But this leaves out all the acrylics, pastes, inks, mediums and assorted other things used in mixed media. I do have other journals, but each has it's own set of limits. You explained very well the advantages. Thanks.
Hi there, Jackie! Loved this vid - thank you! My biggest problem is that I get overwhelmed with all the choices. I dither too much and end up getting frustrated. I'm a prolific gel printer. I adore to gel print. It helps my brain so much and I've made many projects using the prints. But...I've 4 large boxes of full prints and snippets that I've saved and I am spoiled for choice. I also have tons of magazine cutouts. I thought maybe I would go through them all and make little stacks of papers that go together and limit myself to only work with what I've chosen. I think that might work. Paralyzing is the perfect word I think. And then it's not enjoyable for me. I need to loosen up and stop trying to be "perfect". Thank you for voicing everything I am feeling! Love and Bless xoxo
Great advice as always Jackie ❤ I think I need to go the opposite way though because I almost always ONLY use cool colors -- maybe I'll start with only warm colors and then throw a bit of each in with the only :) I definitely know the sense of overwhelm with too many choices -- if I had it to do over again I would, as they say, 'curate' my supplies instead of simply amassing all kinds of options because, by golly, I wanted to have unlimited fun. I think come spring there'll be a purge of some kind or maybe I'll just lock a bunch of them away until I wear out what I've been using :)
Jackie, love the collage! Definitely, cool colors are my cherished palette though I do love yr use of that bright neon red and that lovely celery-pale green color you always use when painting… that old bromide “the rules are made to be broken” always makes me smile. I heard another artist attach the phrase, “Yes, but first you have to know the rules!” Would you agree?
I would love this grid guide! I can’t get it though. :( I signed up & added my email several times but still haven’t been sent the grid. Any suggestions? 😊😊
You are my safe space in this chaotic world Jackie. Thanks for all your efforts and TIME. 🎉
That means so much to me! Sending you a big hug. 🤗

It sounds like you found some amazing magic in those limitations! ❤️
Limits give us freedom as well as forcing creative decisions. And a good time was had.
There is so much joy
in your voice. I Like this
You’re so sweet-your words just added even more joy to my day! 😊

Another interesting tutorial... you are so "right on" with the way my brain works.
So glad you’re feeling understood! 🥳

Love that you have sketchbooks for different limitations! ❤️❤️❤️
