Speaking on balance of the weapon, my personal shorty is a suppressed 8.5” 300blk. I originally wanted a 10.3/10.5 but couldn’t find one in my price bracket at the time. Suppressed that is a very compact and well balanced platform and still useful inside my house or vehicle.

Thoughts on future content if I may be so bold: you've covered the belt and covered the armor and plate carrier. I guess because your combat experience was primarily vehicle mounted you likely didn't spend much time with a pack, but I'd be interested to hear about what you all brought along in the last line of gear on the shoulders in Iraq and Afghanistan. Yes. I know. Mission dependent but I find it interesting seeing the evolution of your gear and the progression of the pack during GWOT might complete the arc. Just my $0.02.

I put Travis through pre-scuba in the late 90's. We started getting the shorty uppers in limited amounts in '05 in afg. I ended up building my own shorty, using a 11.5" heavy profile barrel I ordered from Bushmaster I used for a couple deployments. I retired in 2010, so the newer model had just started coming out. Did you ever get the Gemtech HALO suppressors? We would get a few of those from the OEF books, I really liked them more than the KAC cans. I almost always used my standard upper with the ACOG for most missions in afg., except for DA missions where I used the shorty with the EOtec. Of course, I we weren't doing DA we were mostly just driving around in the GMVs moving to contact, so it was almost all done with crew served weapons anyway. When I did 3 gun I used a brake made by Bushmaster that is a clone of the AK74, but threaded for the AR. It worked really well, but the the range staff hated it- 1 round and the guy with the pro-timer realized pretty quick he only wanted to be directly behind me, which was fine because the timer didn't have any issues picking up the shots anyway. Good video.

It did very well in SF and most teams always wanted more but were limited to at the most 4 per ODA average of only 2. It ran well and did not see any real issues with the SCAR 17.

Thank you for the fantastic content. I had a brief question not on the Mk18, but on SF in general. I know that ODAs will have two of each MOS (weapons, medical etc.). My understanding is that this allows for (1. A senior member of one MOS to mentor a junior member and (2. the ODA to be split into two 6-man teams. My question is, how important is this senior/junior mentorship per MOS in the ODAs, and in the event that the ODA is split into two teams, are the senior personnel collected into one team, or is an effort made to have a spread mix of senior/junior personnel in each team?

    • @ModernTacticalShooting

@@ModernTacticalShooting Thanks for replying! I'm guessing this is beacuse that 416s r heavy and overgassed? It seems that some t1 units r not fond of 416s as well since devgru has moved away to noveske lol

@@user-xf5mq2lc4m yes the 416 is over gassed or reliability is what HK said. I don't follow that, guns are properly gassed over gassed or undergassed

@@ModernTacticalShooting That's 100% correct sir! Hk deliberately increases the amount of gas used to power the piston rod incase anything comes in to the rail and jam the piston rod from working properly, hence more reliable as Hk claimed. Despite the problems brought by overgass 416 still has 62 more Class 1&2 weapon stoppages compares to an issued m4 according to army's carbine extreme dust test conducted in 2007 which kind of makes me laugh

@@user-xf5mq2lc4m In fact, you are confusing or deliberately telling the truth, the M4 has faults of 1 and 2 classes 624 and the XK 416 210 in testing in the fall of 2007 where all the participants were, all four different platforms. Do not confuse independent testing conducted by Colt in the summer of 2007, which has a lot of questions and how objective it is, including different amounts of lubricant, given that AR platforms really dislike running dry.

The geissele urgi looks nice, but that mk18 ris 2 rail is sexy
