Quickly becoming my favorite RUclips channel. An M9 episode would be sweet too!
I think he talks about the M9 in the 1911 and/or G19 videos
@@williamflowers9435 yeah he did.
I love you're first hand accounts and "from the horses mouth" break down of these weapons systems. Much better than getting it from forums and internet lore.
You're experience is invaluable. You're one of only a handful of RUclipsr's who has real world experience. Love it.
Thank you
Speaking on balance of the weapon, my personal shorty is a suppressed 8.5” 300blk. I originally wanted a 10.3/10.5 but couldn’t find one in my price bracket at the time. Suppressed that is a very compact and well balanced platform and still useful inside my house or vehicle.
You really have a gift for making all these rifle variations easier to understand.
Thanks!
Your contents are the best learning contents on RUclips!!
I’m so excited for MP5 video!
I'd appreciate a video on left handed AR operation as far as emergency reloads & tac-reloads and all that other stuff! Thanks for everything you do!
Good idea
Second this. @@ModernTacticalShooting
Please make a video about CIF teams and their history
Travis is a great guy.
We got to Kuwait in Sep 2002 to start prepping for OIF1. The amount of this stuff that was thrown at us is kind of crazy for regular army line units. Our M4s had KAC RAS, PEQ-2s, PVS14 rail adapters, Insight light illuminators, some surefire 952s... We got berretta laser grips? Fun times. lol
Great informative video. Always like to hear about these weapons from someone that actually used them in combat.
Jeff your videos never disappoint you keep me informed and intrigued the entire video.
This guy fought terrorists for a living, if he says mk18 can do it just fine to 300 then imma believe him
@3:42 the "shoot me first" vest
Always enjoy your informative videos
P for Plenty.
I'LL KEEP THAT IN MIND
I can not wait to see the MP5 video! I would be interested in hearing your take on the URGI, too. Thanks for making these videos.
Invaluable real world knowledge and experience here, really awesome that you are transferring this type of knowledge to the rest of us.
This is some good stuff right here. Thanks for posting this Jeff.
Thanks so much for the information. Your knowledge, experience and delivery of information is really well done. Keep up the great work.
Love this channel. Love hearing facts about what weapons and different setups from someone who's been there and done that. Thank you for your service
Those reloads were crazy. Great video all around!
Thank you. Looking forward to the MP5 video.
Can’t wait for that Mp5 video ❤️
Another great video! Love the muzzle brake comments. I ran a muzzle brake for a while, and I just got tired of all the unnecessary noise.
It's been fascinating seeing the progression of knowledge through the years into what we know now as best practices. Thanks, Jeff.
@Modern Tactical Shooting Your channel has easily become my favorite channel on the 'tube. I really enjoy your perspective, knowledge and the history you share. I'm looking forward to your future videos!
Thank you very much
Awesome information Jeff! Another awesome informational video. Coupled with real World experiences from you, really backs the facts in ways I and many others can appreciate. Keep it up!
Thank you
Incredibly well put together video
Thanks for your service
I'd love your thoughts on the new URGI! History and experience you have told are always very interesting, hope you grow crazy on this platform
Thank You..Me too!
Great video, always informative!
Love it! Thanks for the breakdown!
Excellent content as always!
5:38 explains why the Blackhawk Gladius is absent from that M4 in most of the pics
I rock a boonie packer Redi-Mag on my rifle. The older version that uses the rifle mag release to actuate the Redi-Mag.
Great video, Jeff! Thank you!
Great video! Very informative and well done. Thank you for sharing it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Really enjoyed, good info, thanks
Suscribed. Very good stuff. Refreshing to have humility with real experience. Thank you sir.
Amazing. Been waiting for this video. Keep up the good work
Thank You
Thanks, love the practical info!
Excellent content. Thank you.
That’s some trigger slapping goodness right there. But obviously this guys knows better than basically anyone on how to use his tools. That’s awesome.
Thank you.... but there's always somebody better out there
Fantastic video, thank you.
You are a terrific shot!
Thanks
Excellent work sir! Thank you
awesome and informative video!
Excellent work as always. Been binging your videos at work tonight and I noticed something. Thoughts on future content if I may be so bold: you've covered the belt and covered the armor and plate carrier. I guess because your combat experience was primarily vehicle mounted you likely didn't spend much time with a pack, but I'd be interested to hear about what you all brought along in the last line of gear on the shoulders in Iraq and Afghanistan. Yes. I know. Mission dependent but I find it interesting seeing the evolution of your gear and the progression of the pack during GWOT might complete the arc. Just my $0.02.
Pack videos on the schedule
The biggest factor, in my opinion, to consider before choosing between 10.3 or 11.5 is whether one is on sale.
I so need to train with you great shooting and thank you for your service!!!!!!
Super informative. Thank you for your service. Sub’d.
Quality video as usual. It's unreal more people are not subbed to this channel
Tell me about it!
I love my mod 0 full Colt with SF Suppressor RC2 saving up for an El Can RN…Great Review and Explanation
Love your videos. Think we’ll see a MK12 video? I know you have mentioned them in a few of your past videos.
I dont know..I dont have much in the way of downrange photos.
I’d love a MK12 Mod 0/1/H video!! Perhaps this is one where you could call on some old teammates for pics and maybe even a guest appearance if you know someone who has time/experience with the different variants and optics?
I put Travis through pre-scuba in the late 90's. We started getting the shorty uppers in limited amounts in '05 in afg. I ended up building my own shorty, using a 11.5" heavy profile barrel I ordered from Bushmaster I used for a couple deployments. I retired in 2010, so the newer model had just started coming out. Did you ever get the Gemtech HALO suppressors? We would get a few of those from the OEF books, I really liked them more than the KAC cans. I almost always used my standard upper with the ACOG for most missions in afg., except for DA missions where I used the shorty with the EOtec. Of course, I we weren't doing DA we were mostly just driving around in the GMVs moving to contact, so it was almost all done with crew served weapons anyway. When I did 3 gun I used a brake made by Bushmaster that is a clone of the AK74, but threaded for the AR. It worked really well, but the the range staff hated it- 1 round and the guy with the pro-timer realized pretty quick he only wanted to be directly behind me, which was fine because the timer didn't have any issues picking up the shots anyway. Good video.
Never saw the Gemtechs
Awesome video!
Probably one of the best looking and portable rifles 😎
Love your videos
Thank you
Honeslty a video series of GWOT weapons would be entertaining and informative to watch.
"P for Plenty" Amen. RLTW
Always
Do you think you could eventually do a video on MK262 ammo? I feel like you would have a very unique perspective on it. I recently purchased some for my home defense SBR because it has become a cult classic in the self defense 5.56 ammo scene even though it was designed as a marksman's round.
Awesome video….thx Jeff.
Really enjoying your channel. Shoutout to 9HoleReviews for sending me this way
They are a great Channel and a great bunch of guys yes
Thank you for your information. A video on the Scar17 would be awesome. Seems to be a lot of debate about that platform.
I dont have much 1st hand footage of me running a SCAR, a few pics of teammates. So dont know if I have enough for a video..From what I see a lot of the bad reviews of the SCAR17 come from SEALs. It did very well in SF and most teams always wanted more but were limited to at the most 4 per ODA average of only 2. It ran well and did not see any real issues with the SCAR 17.
@@ModernTacticalShooting
You’ve said several times that you don’t want to do videos because you don’t have many pictures of certain things, but I don’t think you need that many. We already know you were there. I think a lot of us would rather listen to your stories or experience vs just look at a slide show.
I bought a Daniel Defense Mk18, three came into the store the day I came in, and one was already sold, and I bought the second. Even with time in the Army Infantry, I gotta admit it felt a little high class for me, but my my is it swanky as your video puts it.
EXCELLENT!!
Awesome videos
Great video. What’s your thoughts on the elcan? I’m interested in picking one up, I’m wondering what you liked / disliked. Thanks keep the great content coming.
Their capability is really outclassed by modern Optics and unless you're a collector I would not spend the money on one, you can get a better optic for less money now.
Do you like UHMWPE armor? Seems like a win for the weight...
Great video as usual!
I do, great balance of weight, protection and price
I kinda find it funny how 100 years ago militaries all around the world were very insistent on having very sleek and smooth rifles, where even an exterior magazine (think Lee Enfield or Mosin) was a big no no.
Yet today even the basic grunt carries a rifle with a billion angles, sharp pieces extruding, catches etc.
Took me forever to realize he's left handed, I guess that's where that extended bolt release helps
Awesome video. I’m curious your thoughts on the A5 buffer system. There’s another video on here showing full auto fire and difference between a5 vs carbine buffer and different ammo. A5 looks like it slows down the cyclic rate a tiny bit
I have not played with an A5 but if it does slow down the full auto rate I'm all for it
First time i actually saw a mk18 was in Iraq when i was working with SF. I wanted one every since.
Amazing video with a wealth of information as always. I have a question though, what do you think of Jim Sullivan's optimized BCG especially pairing it with a gun modified to have a slow fire rate? I think that fixes the issue with what you were saying about the cyclic rate. Both Karl from InRangeTV or Ian from Forgotten Weapons did an interview and video about it.
I have not direct experience with Sullivan's carrier, but I do have extensive experience with the FERFRANS carrier which the Sullivan comes from. Yes cuts full auto rate almost in half...very controllable.
@@ModernTacticalShooting I see. Then I'd like to ask next is would you carry LMT's enhanced carrier? It seems to be a very good option for the MK18 if full auto cyclic rate wasn't an issue. Thank you for the reply!
Thank you for the history lesson…enjoy your videos…seen this video , MK18 mod II and M1A1 SopMod…Marine myself 0311….OIF…03…
Great channel. Very informative based on your experience. Much appreciated. Any chance you can do a video on the Mk 12 SPR and Mk 262 ammo?
Perhaps the only thing holding me back I only have two personal pics of a MK12 from downrange. I prefer to use all my own pics and not rely on using others off the internet.
@@ModernTacticalShooting I see. Hope you can get to it at some point as that rifle is a very interesting platform and fun to build imo. Your pics are a great part of your channel so keep them coming. Thank you so much for your response and of course your service. I'll keep watching.
Would love to hear your thoughts on the HK416 and how it compares to an M4 or MK18, regardless of if you've had personal experience with it or not
I have had personal experience with it so maybe perhaps sometime I will go over it
@@ModernTacticalShooting Oh perfect. It would be insightful to get your input on the platform.
@@ModernTacticalShooting A video on the hk416 from your perspective would be an invaluable resource.
HRF concepts makes a slightly lower profile magazine well/funnel that looks promising as well.
Can you speak a little about the extended magwell? Was a magwell grip stance operating procedure at any point? When did the over-bore/C-clamp become standard practice?
Hello. Excellent an very informative video as usual. Do you think Daniel Defense will ever change over to making the MK18 in 11.5?? Thank you an thank you for your timely response
Will they? Dont know...should they? Yes
Awesome video, what would you consider a high round count for a mk18?
Over 10,000
Jeff, thanks for your continued service doing these videos. What is your go-to, general purpose carbine in terms of barrel length and sighting system/optic?
Ideally 14.5 but most often I run a 16in. just because of pinning flash hider is a pain. Optic red dot..Aumpoint Pro or Primary Arms Micro dot
@@ModernTacticalShooting Many thanks!
Can’t wait for mp5 video
Long live the quad rail! Still take it over the Giselle super duty
A buddy of mine works with Travis
Would modern flow-through suppressors that practically eliminate back pressure also eliminate the need for adjustable gas block? New designs like the HuxWrx Flow556 and the upcoming Surefire RC3.
Would like to see you do a video on the Geissele URGI
I find it very interesting you would like a half the cyclic rate 🤔 that would put on par with a grease gun. I do wonder how many people feel the same - an interesting discussion to had there me thinks.
Jeff, if you didn't have integrated fire support, what would your ideal barrel length and optic setup be? What would your general purpose rifle look like if you didn't know whether you'd be fighting from distance or up close?
MK18 with LPVO and offset red dot
Thank you for the fantastic content. I had a brief question not on the Mk18, but on SF in general. I know that ODAs will have two of each MOS (weapons, medical etc.). My understanding is that this allows for (1. A senior member of one MOS to mentor a junior member and (2. the ODA to be split into two 6-man teams. My question is, how important is this senior/junior mentorship per MOS in the ODAs, and in the event that the ODA is split into two teams, are the senior personnel collected into one team, or is an effort made to have a spread mix of senior/junior personnel in each team?
Yes we mix Junior and senior when we split up, 2 six man team on paper but in reality, its six 2-man teams leading partner forces. 2 SF guys per moving element
@@ModernTacticalShooting Thanks for the reply. Having served in a military reliant on conscripted manpower, I've been thinking about using mentor/mentee buddy teams to train and maintain proficiency for infantry units. I was naturally intrigued to hear about SF seemingly using such a system, although your needs differ from line infantry. Much love and respect for you guys!
Jeff, what were they carrying on the stock at 1:33 on that mk18? Is that a field dressing or is that an mre for yum yum time lol?
Excited for the MP5 episode
I was going to do MP5 next but have to delay it so it will be out in two or three weeks
@@ModernTacticalShooting No problem. Love your personal experience videos WHENEVER you find the time
@Modern Tactical Shooting
What stock is on your SBR?
The pic at 8:25 looks like a 40 round mag.? Were 40 rounders used much?
Was wondering something, was it normal / common practice to bring your own uppers to use instead of the issued ones ? I’m asking because it looks like an Adam’s arms/piston gas system upper with a scope on that colt lower from another vid. I know about mags and accessories but never herd of a whole upper.
Perhaps there have been a personal upper or two used overseas
Great video! Is it true that old MK18 mod0 had a overgas issue with the KAC can?
I dont know, but perhaps seeing how KAC can was never that popular in SF.
Looking forward to HK platforms!
When you guys were issued 2 uppers, did you get two Surefire RCs or did you need to swap from one to the other?
We were issued one suppressor but the four prongs were on all our guns
In the pic of Travis Rolph, I’m struggling to understand why he has a tip up carry spyderco outside his pants just asking for a shock to open the blade and dig into his own femoral or wedding tackle. Granted the kickback on those early enduras is stout but not that stout. Of all the ways to carry a folder, that seems to be about one of the worst.
Great vid on the mk18, fantastic information/background.
Perhaps..early war so lesson learned in sure.
Hi Jeff, love your weapon review vids❤ I saw an interesting comment from an article comparing di and short pistons which stated that when hk416s were adopted by jsoc units socom was thinking about replacing the mk18 and m4s with 416s but after some tests they've done they figured that 416s were not worth of replacing therefore they sticked with di m4s and adopted urgi later. Do u happen to know if this is true?
While certain Tier units used the HK416, Special Forces did decide it was not worth the switch at the time
@@ModernTacticalShooting Thanks for replying! I'm guessing this is beacuse that 416s r heavy and overgassed? It seems that some t1 units r not fond of 416s as well since devgru has moved away to noveske lol
@@user-xf5mq2lc4m yes the 416 is over gassed or reliability is what HK said. I don't follow that, guns are properly gassed over gassed or undergassed
@@ModernTacticalShooting That's 100% correct sir! Hk deliberately increases the amount of gas used to power the piston rod incase anything comes in to the rail and jam the piston rod from working properly, hence more reliable as Hk claimed. Despite the problems brought by overgass 416 still has 62 more Class 1&2 weapon stoppages compares to an issued m4 according to army's carbine extreme dust test conducted in 2007 which kind of makes me laugh
@@user-xf5mq2lc4m In fact, you are confusing or deliberately telling the truth, the M4 has faults of 1 and 2 classes 624 and the XK 416 210 in testing in the fall of 2007 where all the participants were, all four different platforms. Do not confuse independent testing conducted by Colt in the summer of 2007, which has a lot of questions and how objective it is, including different amounts of lubricant, given that AR platforms really dislike running dry.
The geissele urgi looks nice, but that mk18 ris 2 rail is sexy
