8:06 the ball was going between the inner post and the outer post, which is worth a measly 1 point. So he grabbed the ball, kept it in play (player can go outside the boundary while in possession, as long as the ball stays in), then kicks it between the two inner points for a goal and 6 points. Also you are right, the ball must be kicked through the posts for it to score any points.
Banana is actually the name of a kick: it's the one where the ball spins around the vertical axis in the air (like a frisbee) and curves to the left or the right. It's how they get the ball to make those insane curves. Actually a lot of science going into that.
All those number 23s were actually the same person, Lance "Buddy" Franklin. He played for two teams during this period, Hawthorn Hawks (Brown and Yellow stripes) and Sydney Swans (Red and White)
It doesn't have to be kicked to score any points, just goals.

I'm still laughing. 🤣BTW, you must kick the ball between the two tall posts (= six points), or its not counted as a goal. The ball must come off the player's foot. Touching the ball before it goes through, by hand or body, by any player, means it's one point. When Jack Higgins passed the ball around the post, he then had to kick it. That amazing acrobatic skill was definitely unexplained science. Keep up the good work. Cheers. (P.S Your goal umpiring skills are spot on.)

Commentators get over excited mainly Bruce Mcavaney and James Brayshaw, spoil the game, cannot stand them and are one eyed 👹😡
Just a suggestion regarding your microphone. You are too close to it, and overloading the capsule, which distorts your voice. Turn up the gain for your mic (record level) and keep your mouth about 10 - 15cm away from it. I hope that makes sense.
