Glad you enjoyed Orcas. Those of us who live here like to say that if you can ride Orcas you can ride anywhere. It is definitely the hilliest of the islands. Next time you go up My Constitution, on the switchback where you hit 20% grade, ride on the wrong side of the road, it's a lot less steep. Come back up in 2021 for the Wildlife 100. It's an informal unsupported social ride that covers 100 miles on the 3 major islands. Oh, and for the Wildlife, 100 Mt Constitution is an optional side trip. It's a fun way to see the islands and the distances are optional as there are shorter routes on each island. Plus a good chance to rest and recoup on the ferry ride between each island.
Really great Video. I follow your channel over a year now and i like your style and content very much. And this Video is one of the most interesting, atmospheric and most entertaining videos I‘ve seen about Bikepaking trips. Maybe because it isn’t one of these 20000 miles through the desert ones. This is something that can experience everyone who likes riding bikes. Really great trip. Amazing sceneries. And your painting is really good too. Greetings from Germany.
That was cool. I used to do the four islands at least once a year. Lopez is everyone's fav but they are all good. I like to camp on the Spit though. Too bad you didn't experience Shaw when the nuns ran the ferry dock and there was this little strip of a campground on the water. I'm glad you got all the way up Constitution. I've done Rainier and Baker and most climbs in BC but Constitution is special. San Juan is too busy but the campground on the ocean is cool.
Great video, took me back 25 years when I toured Washington and Oregon. Nice to see the lush west coast again. Love your channel. The reviews of the bikes and gear are exactly what interests me. Keep up the great work
This is such an awesome idea/trip. I'm going to seattle then the orcas island next week and this was a great preview. Not making water colors but will be shooting lots of 35mm film.
hey, Russ, you can keep a small bag of dry sand and use that to dry your watercolours without smearing, just remember to reuse the sand, and keep it dry.
loved the video. Orcas Island...the site of a very famous Ultra Running race. I consider my self to be artistic but I have never tried Water Color painting...you got me curious to try it. Im going to do some internet research on how to get started...who knows I may find a new hobby. Again...loved the video...keep them coming...
Hey everyone! Play the ‘Path Less Pedaled’ drinking game with us! As huge fans we’ve done it twice. Super fan fun. Here are the rules and details... 1. Drink anytime Russ laughs (nervously or otherwise) 2. Drink anytime he says “Supple” 3. Drink anytime he compares something to or mentions a Salsa brand product. That’s it! Have fun! Enjoy the channel!
Catkin Cafe is another good place on the island. Good eats and they also have an art studio there. It's in Olga south of Moran State Park. I'm surprised you didn't have any deer encounters. The place is overrun with these pygmy deer.
This is a great video. Thanks for sharing. My folks live out there. Would be so handy if you’d add links to thinking like Swift Adventures in your video descriptions. - I know I know I can google. Just love a quick link tap.
Been a fan for a few months now. This is by far one of my favorite episodes. Making art and riding bikes! How can I can my hands on the art kit? Would love to have one. Looking forward to the next video. - Ericson
I love Blackwing pencils, too. My fave is the pearl and 301s. I have a few of the special editions, but I haven't used them yet. So cool to have those tiny watercolor kits. Sorry it rained so much. Lopez is my fave.
4 years of gravel grinding, watched this and it has sparked my interest in Bikepacking. I just picked up a Swift Rove and might take it for a trip this weekend.
Looking forward to hearing your opinion on the Rove ST vs NRB DL and how the material/weight difference affects the ride. Also your thoughts on the Rove ST vs the Norco Search Steel.
yes, is Swift selling those art kits? Currently using a Rivendell bag but still too big! Could you at least list the contents of the ket and/or name of manufacturer of items or links?
Lol, losing watts on your brake levers is not that significant with a boxy handlebar bag like that... Or cycling in loose fitting kit..... 😅 When I'm training on my road bike, I care about aero. On my gravel bike: fun is priority #1 😃
I feel like you only showed half of what could be done since you drove onto the ferry. We parked at Anacortes and biked on - did Lopez and Shaw. Over Memorial Day weekend we saw a flotilla of bikes (with trailers, carrying all of the supplies (even a full sided canoe!!)). No hashtag van life there. Go big and go far.
I come back to this video frequently. It’s such a nice pre-COVID vibe. Can’t wait to go tripping with friends again.
Oof, so true.

Absolutely wonderful!
Man, that trip truly forces you to stop, experience situational awareness and smell the roses! Good job!
Wow great video. Putting this on my bucket list.
Dude, one of your best videos so far!! What a great content on this one! Congrats! You both rock!
The content on this channel just keeps getting better and better
Wonderful video, one of my favourites thus far.
Fun video Russ. Looked like everyone had a good time nerding out and riding bikes.
Miss Daniel Smith Art! Great video!
I enjoy your videos, but this is by far my favorite! Love the riding and watercolors!!
Loved this, inspired me to grab some watercolours and give it a bash. Thanks!
Nice ride and awesome Kona! That Rove is gorgeous with those bags! I love everything about it..

Yoda Voice: In your element, you were. Good to see you enjoying some riding, exploring!
Nice painting, Russ. Fun ride, too. I've driven Orcas Island; I need to bike it sometime.I'll do it when the art teachers are absent, though.
Awesome video. Love the scenery. I think i saw a red Bike Friday brand bike @16:39.... 8-D
This is such an awesome idea/trip. I'm going to seattle then the orcas island next week and this was a great preview. Not making water colors but will be shooting lots of 35mm film.
Nice to see the different art styles

pure pleasure...thanks for that ✌🏻
Captured the weekend perfectly!
Are those art travel kits for sale? I'd love to get one.
I'm wondering the same thing lol
@@GWDadventures They did reply back to me with a link to purchase the kit, but I guess it was deleted. You can get one at expeditionaryart dot com
www6droppin many thanks!
Got my Pamplemousse in hand, let the show begin.

Nice watercolor sketch, Russ!
ahhhh, loved this trip
Nice to see you riding through my backyard. How did you like Washington Park in Anacortes? We love that place.
Awesome. But super wet!

Ha! You’d get tanked pretty quick on #3 alone 😂
Drink anytime he doubles up words. Hittin the grav grav!

Great island!
When on Orcas, the greatest ride is Killebrew Lake Road and Dolphin Bay Road.

Art is dope btw, sounds like a great idea for a trip
Im in Victoria which is also in the "rain shadow" and we get a third of the rain Vancouver gets.
Cool vid.

I too purchased the seeker travelers kit but I'm filling it with color pencils instead. Most of my biketouring bags are from Swift Industries.
This looks like more fun than riding until I throw up. haha.
love the channel!
Thanks Russ. Do these folks sell those micro paint kits. I know someone who could make use of it. Thanks.
Looking forward to hearing your opinion on the Rove ST vs NRB DL and how the material/weight difference affects the ride. Also your thoughts on the Rove ST vs the Norco Search Steel.
Want to hear the review on the Shimano GRX gearing and if sufficient for climbing on gravel mountain roads.
where can I get the travel kit? and Sign up for a tour?
Man, you needed an e-bike for that climb up Mt. Constitution
yes, is Swift selling those art kits? Currently using a Rivendell bag but still too big! Could you at least list the contents of the ket and/or name of manufacturer of items or links?
What is that bag that the art kit is in?
Oh, and Salt Spring Island is more Orcasy than Orcas.
Where can we get those water color kits?
expeditionaryart.com/shop/art-toolkit/
Russ any social links of the guys you ride with?
Which campground did you stay at?
I'll chime in as well--I'd love one of the travel art kits...for sale?
you should check out the mason bokeh gravel bike
Hey Russ, what camera(s) are you using in this?
Like an alien group of green tent people
how would I get a travel water color kit like that?
Random question - those bikes have 26" wheels?
27.5
What, what, what, wait, w h a t, cool.
Hey what is the blue shirt you are wearing in this video. Looking for something just like that thx.
So the zeitgeist is a carradice copy? Any better/worse/different?
Lighter. More strapping points. More color options. Modern closures. Better availability in the US.
Another cool video, PLP! Can anyone ID the shoes at 10:37?
Astral.
What is the music in the first 2 min. of the video?
Great video I'm also an artist and cyclist👍
Would love to do the ride, my wifey can do the painting! How do I get signed up?
What type of cycle computer is mounted to your bars?
Go HUSKIES! UW
Whats 'value studies?"
Small painting in single tone to identify the dark, middle and light shades.
Are these cycles 27.5 or 29 wheels

Can’t make everyone happy. Also the point of the trip was to make art. 🤷🏽♂️
@@PathLessPedaledTV You did make me happy! It was just a suggestion to try it sometime! It was freedom.
