I'm a author and my favorite tip was #4 distinguish yourself from others. I think as a writer you have to give your readers something others authors aren't.
That guy should go to a place such as... I don't know, Englewood, Chicago, for example, and tell those people that if they want to be successful, they just need to be committed. It's very easy to judge from a comfortable spot. Not everybody have the same opportunities, not everybody can reach for the same goals, and they are for sure more committed to be successful than most of us. That guy really got my nerves. Other than that I liked the video, but that guy, really, sending those messages to people just help to avoid understanding people who live on places where they cannot aim for the same resources we might have. (Please apologize my English, I'm not a native speaker).
Monday motivation. Write here, right now ; Breakthrough somehow. Know your fear ; Shed that tear. Keep on moving ; Keep on loving. Read, read , read some more ; Finish that book, it ain't a chore. Know your mind ; Leave a legacy behind. Be who you are ; King of the jungle and the brightest star. Be your own hero ; Never be anywhere closer to zero. What I love about reading their books is that they actually have their own voice. Like Paulo Coelho and Malcom Gladwell, I’ve never heard their voices but when I just listened theirs and just like what I always imagine. Feel like they’re whispering.
My favorite pick is number 9. We might be dumb and didn't have any of the quantities other than motivation, it is enough to start. Start with nothing, learn everything and do what ever you can and you want.
Neil Gaiman, he had touched a weird but completely true thing that any writer will ever connect to, rather they’re published or they just wrote out a quarter of a book and it’s god awful but it’s connecting for them, the writers. Please make more videos of writer please, it’s so important and true for me and amazing to connect to something that is always true.
LOVE this. Thank you Evan! My take-aways are 1) love the process and 2) live your personal legend. Wherever my novels take me, I will always be, at heart, a book lover who is compelled to write. Always.
Glad you loved it Tikiri. :) All the best to you! Always #Believe in yourself and keep taking action to pursue what you love and passionate about. Much love. #BTA534 Shine
I think we create our own obstacles. I know I do, I wish I could find a cure. I have so many stories’ I have started but never finished. I start on fire, but eventually the flame always goes out.
That's the nature of inspiration for all creatives. Once the original spark dies out, that's when we have to rely on determination and perseverance and persistence to keep at it.
That's why I started writing short stories and Novellas 4 novellas in the same world is a novel in 4 acts, at least it is if you put up an ending that brings it all together ie 4 strangers with different motivations and professions meet up in the climax for a common purpose
The one about the stakes got me the most. I'm always freaking out about what my family would think about my content. Although, I've gotten over that *thumbs up*
Great choice. I'm struggling to be a successful writer and it's been 10 years since I left high school. I pitch my life away and although I got gigs I haven't been able to have a successful writing career. It's getting me down and honestly I want to give up at this long but something in me says to keep going. I hope I can find the strength to because I'm getting older and I have rent to pay... magazines are laying off writers, no one reads blogs anymore it's like what's left? I hope and pray every day that I get my big break bc I legit feel like I want to to jump off a bridge. Tired.
nosleeeeptilbrooklyn A lot of the people who are mentioned here have had a very different journey and for a lot longer than what we have. Keep the faith my friend :) when you publish your first book, don't forget to share that with us, I would love to read your story :) good luck and never think about giving up
Don't give up. If you are driven to write, you owe it to the world. Barbara Sher (I think that was her name) says that society tells us that we have to decide what we want to do and then do it and immediately be successful at it. But the reality is that many artists have a day job. Or some even can't create if they have to do it full time. She says that we should get a job that 'you don't hate', so it doesn't drain you too much but can pay your bills. Sometimes limitations makes us more creative. And smarter, with every experience we make. Google her, she has actually realistic and helpful advice.
Mate, I'm just writing my first book and only just realising how difficult the writing life is. The fact you've been at for ten years is pretty damn impressive to me; just wanted to say.
Don't ever give up! Maybe it won't happen now maybe you'll have to get a job, and maybe you won't write for years. But if you believe you can do it, and you absolutely love it! It will happen!
nosleeeeptilbrooklyn Hey, don't give up, find your voice and find your type of writing. Find what inspires you to write and the books that inspire that writing, because all great writers have to read a lot. Also, if you have decided what genre to write and you feel blocked, try to go into another genre. Don't give up, though. You can do it.
As a writer this was absolutely amazing...I've had it on my to-watch list for a while and hadn't until this morning. Neil really hit it on the head here! Thanks for an amazing video!
This one, Elizabeth Gilmer’s and Neil Gaiman’s have been the videos that most encourage me as a writer, because I’m the only one around in my life that really cares and believes that I can do it professionally, so, sometimes we need a little push from outside or it gets overwhelming. Thanks, Evan, for your great work. You surely know how to make me remember to believe in myself.
Great presentation! Love the different segments... But the last writer that narrated his "spontaneous" writing process and how he cultivates ideas, definitely resonated with me. A lot of great examples from different sources of inspiration! Thank you!
LOVE this one! Of course! So many of my fave authors in here! You saved the very best advice for last, when you don't know it's impossible then you do it - yesssss.
Love this series! We can all learn and grow as writers from those who've been in the trenches. When I'm stuck in my own writing, I often look to the masters on my shelf to help me figure it out.
I have to say, as many artists/writers likely will, that the very moments in my existence in which people oppressively bitched about my imagination have only kept me going as a writer. Now I've got two books so far on Amazon Kindle.
Tim Ferris is always worth listening to. When he speaks it's because he has something to say. I also enjoyed Eckhart Tolle... we would debate so many things if given the opportunity. You have much more to bring to people in so many ways. You are just beginning to scratch the surface... and I am excited to see it all unfold! ~ Dr Christopher
This is one of the best vids I’ve ever seen about the subject. The fact that it’s made up by the combination of lots of great writers puts much more worth and value to it. Thanks a lot
He is right about learning at a great speed when you have intense desire to. I am obsessed with writing so I became a master writer very fast and so my writing success is steady. I give back to the writing world on my channel and upcoming books 😊
Absolutely spot on with the "imitating your inspirations" phase. I made things so much harder for myself by trying to imitate Clive Barker. You do eventually find your own voice. Keep going and keep reading.
Evan Carmichael: Now you have me watching all writing videos, I am so feeling like writing is it for me. I am now even researching famous Aquarius writers. Gosh I can't shake this feeling I am now feeling.
I do a lot of these things. Sometimes I write a great last line then build the story up to that. I write a lot and am read around the world. Traci E. Langston
A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! Loved this list greatly, and very timely! I'm a writer and needed to hear this. My personal faves are 1,3 and 7. Thank you very much for making this video :)
One, two, and ten are my favorites. I inspire to one day sit next to Stephen King at an Book Expo or conference. I'm going to shoot for 2018 since Book Expo is in June. Evan, you're the greatest and I just wanted to say thank you.

I'm a writer and enjoyed it very much. Gaiman was very funny. Though his writing is too dark for me to read. So I enjoyed seeing this other side of him. Thanks Evan.
This video is so good, it gave me goosebumps! It's jam packed with amazing advice that I will be thinking about, probably for the rest of my life. Thank you sooo much for this treasure chest of priceless information and inspiration.
Love all of it. Especially as I’m currently dedicated much time in a writing project. My favourite is Paulo Coelho and his concept of living your personal legend. It’s the whole reason why I found my path into writing. Great compilation keep them coming!
This was great by all means. All these clips were great, but the one that really engaged me is the speech of Elizabeth Gilbert, the one before the last one. Because there was battle of choices flaming inside me, and I hope that I can finally make it through. Thank you very much.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for watching Ahmed. Great to know that her words resonated with you. For sure you'll make it through. All the best! Always #Believe in yourself and keep taking action to achieve your goals. :) #BTA618 Shine
How useful and honest when a writer says that their ideas come from daydreaming and that they are a little more aware of the ideas and the inspiration when it comes to them. How lovely instead of the hostile and egoistical answer a la Stephen King: " - I don´t know, and if I did I certainly wouldn´t tell you!" He could as well just have asked one to scram...
I need to get better at writing two crappy pages a day. I just can't help reading what I've already written and saying, "Ooh! This would be better!" I've got two books self-published already, but right now I'm spinning my wheels in chapter 5 of the third book. Love your work, Evan.
another great video, too bad there aren't more writers in your audience. for some reason this did not appear in my view list until now. I especially found the self-publishing part interesting.
Hi evan! I've been watching your videos lately to get motivated. I'l like to write my own book. Thank you for putting these clip together and selecting the right stuff. I also watched a lot the Jim carrey top ten rules. Have a good day.
The last one is what I like the most. It’s hard for me to follow rules to write because I just want to write. Yesterday, my son was upset because we’re going to move next summer. I don’t know how to empathize with him, so I wrote a story. And he calmed down after I read the story. He laughed at the end because I put some humor by including myself in the story. All I know was, I was emotionally engaged while typing up. I was able to finished 5 pages story. I actually don’t know what was the genre that I wrote.
Please Evan C. Keep doing these amazing work. I ve been following you for a while. And the way you synthesize your videos. Thank you so much. Much love from Brazil
Neil Gaiman is my favorite! And I also liked James Altucher's advice on self-publishing. I wrote my first novel, and I'm in the process of editing it right now, and I'm definitely going to follow the indie route and not the traditional publishing. From everything I've learned about publishing, it looks like there's so much more freedom in indie publishing than in traditional publishing.
I loved the variety of thoughts from the different authors. Tomorrow I'll be using it for a writers' group I started to challenge and stimulate. Each was different enough to fill my hunger for more help in writing. If you want to provide more, that'd be awesome. Another one calling it Part 2 #Makingit as a writer. Thank you!
Thank you Evan, you rock my man!!! I love your videos and even show my daughter for that potential spark that might inspire her to do great things. Bless you for sharing experiences of inspiration, success, and just as important, failure!
Thank you so much for your contribution.I continuously decide to write but fear of failure and criticism come into my way.I have started now writing 2 pages a day on any topic.I liked Stan lee's idea ' just do it'. your brother from Pakistan
"What do I love so much that I don't mind watching that s*** sandwich that comes along with it" and James Altucher's self publishing part are the two that really spoke to me.
i really enjoyed neil tje funny guy at the end his great imaginative humor. from daydreams of werewolves biting goldfish and chairs and chair legs in snow all of it. it's self efacing. i feel he must be a humble man.
Thanks so much Evan!! I'm a writer. I haven't written my first book yet but I love to write and this is very helpful! Neil Gaiman was my favorite on daydreaming "I don't know. You make them up out of your head." lol
Awesome to know that it will be helpful to you. All the best to you...for sure you'll be able to write your first book...#Believe and take action...keep writing! :) Much love. #BTA313 Shine
I don’t like what Gladwell said about consciously differentiating yourself, because I think that can create an affected and superficial mentality (just being different for the sake of it in a calculated way). But I love what he said about serendipity; some of my favourite books I picked up in a library by sheer chance, even just noticing them being returned on a trolley on my way out. When we stare at our devices and rely on apps for everything, we don’t realise that they are always trying to curate and predict our interests, eliminating the chaos that can sometimes deliver us the most fascinating insights - things that could change the trajectory of our minds based on a random instance. It’s a romantic thought.
Thank you for this I really needed this video! I loved it! I'm a aspiring writer myself and I found this who video very educational and sightful! I also like step 10!
I'm writing fantasy 5 books at once. I write 1 book and brainstorm along with writing some scenes for the other books to avoid having a burn out but also not let the other books fall into obscurity. I'm nervous publishing because I can't afford an author so I'll be the best human editor I can be, I have 10 years of experience as a fanfiction writer so I know about story building and pacing, I'm turning 5 fanfics into original novels and I can't wait to introduce my version of Elves and mythical beings.
Dont blow the stakes.. that is what resonated with me the most... I've feared ridicule... but I still wrote and just published my first book The Boss Mom Mentality.. thanks for this video
Check out my NEWEST video: goo.gl/E0eE6m

The last one is what I like the most. It’s hard for me to follow rules to write because I just want to write. Yesterday, my son was upset because we’re going to move next summer. I don’t know how to empathize with him, so I wrote a story. And he calmed down after I read the story. He laughed at the end because I put some humor by including myself in the story. All I know was, I was emotionally engaged while typing up. I was able to finished 5 pages story. I actually don’t know what was the genre that I wrote.
Thank you for sharing with us. I'm glad that it worked :) #BTA1107 Luka

Thanks for sharing Maria. Keep going. Good luck. 💛😊 #Believe - Dondon

Thank you!
Thank you for sharing with us, Merry. Much love :) #BelieveNation #BTA968 Luka

"What do I love so much that I don't mind watching that s*** sandwich that comes along with it" and James Altucher's self publishing part are the two that really spoke to me.

Thanks so much Evan!! I'm a writer. I haven't written my first book yet but I love to write and this is very helpful! Neil Gaiman was my favorite on daydreaming "I don't know. You make them up out of your head." lol

Sorry about that. We appreciate sharing your comment about him. Thanks for watching! 💛😊 #Believe - Dondon

find satisfaction in your work 😇😇😇😇
Keep it on! #Believe :) #BTA905 Luka
I'm writing fantasy 5 books at once.
I write 1 book and brainstorm along with writing some scenes for the other books to avoid having a burn out but also not let the other books fall into obscurity.
I'm nervous publishing because I can't afford an author so I'll be the best human editor I can be, I have 10 years of experience as a fanfiction writer so I know about story building and pacing,
I'm turning 5 fanfics into original novels and I can't wait to introduce my version of Elves and mythical beings.
Wow! Good luck 🙌❤️ #Believe - Feb (from Evan's team)
Dont blow the stakes.. that is what resonated with me the most... I've feared ridicule... but I still wrote and just published my first book The Boss Mom Mentality.. thanks for this video
