    I am 47 years old and have been dealing with PCS for over 3 years. As an adult it is no easier to deal with. I have been fighting the same issues as you have. Thank you for speaking out and expressing what a large part of the struggle is about. Congratulations on a well done Ted Talk.

    I have been remiss in not commenting on this video. My daughter saw it the day after it was posted and I spoke to Dr. Victor Pedro, Cara's doctor. Our daughter began seeing Dr. Pedro while a college student in Providence, Ri, 3 times per week. She had sustained 2-3 serious concussions and began a downward spiral into post concussion headaches, fatigue, focus issues, etc while playing college soccer. After 3 months she was completely headache free. She is a new person. Thank you so much for posting this video and God bless Dr. Pedro.

    Cara, I just listened to your inspiring story. You are the epitome of resilience and will undoubtedly help many others. My son has been on a similar journey, however, not from a concussion, so his 'invisible illness' was less interesting to conventional medicine. However, like you and your family, we never gave up and he is currently on the path to healing. I hope he will follow in your footsteps and share his story when he is ready.

    Can confirm. In the US, if you are under 30, no pain you have is treated as legitimate. I’ve seen so many young people suffer because they are told “it must be all in your head” or “come on, it’s not really that bad”. It’s the biggest reason why I will always advocate that we abolish the RX system, and allow people to purchase the medications they need, rather than suffer as the victim of bureaucracy and a medical system trained to look out for addicted rather than treat patients.

    • @marciagriffith2543
      @marciagriffith2543 3 года назад

      Hello Jeff, sorry for the late reply. The thing is with RX's is that none of 18+ pills she tried helped. In fact, in some cases, they made her feel worse. In the end, the treatment that gave her her life back was non-invasive, no medications. Unfortunately, the doctor saw has closed his practice.

    I beileve i had a unique tbi, in boxing, i was fine getting hit in the bare head or with a hockey helmet on, but then i got this rubber helmet and it really hurt me. My life is pretty ruined. Time means nothing to me, i let weekends go by, ive been like this since it happened 6 years ago. I can almost feel my brain loading my vision, i cant describe it. More than that i just feel detached from all my friends and life, im always in pain, and im just waiting for every hangout with friends to be over, im not enjoying life. I dont want to leave this earth, but im not really enjoying my life either, its torturous. No one can really do anything or say anything to take the pain i feel away. All the times i had with my friends are gone, and i wont be my parents age at 55 sitting around with old friends laughing and have drinks, my whole life has been ruined! And i beileve its from an unsafe rubber like material helmet.

      Hi, Cara is my daughter and appreciate the kind words. I am so sorry to hear about your aunt. Please continue to support her and love her unconditionally. Guide her to seek professional mental health support because the psychological impact of PCS is massive - not only on the patient but on the caregivers as well. Take care.

    I'd like to add a #7: invest in an athletic trainer at your high school and club sporting events. They are certified in recognizing concussions and are a valuable asset that need to be built into the Athletics department budget.

    I respect what you've gone through regarding TBI and recovery (currently going thru it myself) but please don't ever close your eyes and drive. You put other people at risk when you do. Obviously you deserve to live as well but you have no right to take others out or cripple them/inflict TBI on them for life because of how you're feeling. I hope you're doing much better these days. This is probably one of the hardest things to recover from.

    With these traumatic brain injuries, or any other injury for the matter, mild injuries cause us to make adjustments in our lives accommodating the injury. Interesting how serious "mild" injuries in medicine are. Guess they're called mild because they still classify as injuries.

      Liam E. Not true--your brain has the same miraculous regenerative capacities as every other cell in your body! It just requires the proper environment & frequencies to repair.
      Did you have a brain injury from an outward force? Or is it poisoned by mercury or other toxins? (I'm so lucky, I've got it all! 😃)
