Yep… came to you to re-learn after hearing the news today….would like to learn “Laughing “….the tuning is crazy but it’s a real gem… the man put forth so much….
Me and a buddy use to trade guitar parts back in the day cords are spot on James we'd entertain the teenage night time parking lot dwellers 😆 highschool days now remember I'm 70 now there really weren't many clubs back then back
Listen to the OR (ca 68-69) or even 2005 remaster - the warm tones starting ~32-34 seconds in are amazing. And even more fascinating is Jorma's work on the JA version.
Awesome, I've always loved this tune. Now I can bust it out on a couple of buddies and watch there faces fall off! Thank you once again 2 J's! 🐉💀👽🎸🎼🎵🎶🧠
I’ve been in love w/ falcons since I first saw them...the bow wow wow video with Matt Ashton playing his white falcon to “I want candy “ ...he could play too it wasn’t for show...the instrument is deserving of its legendary status IMO
Agreed. That Bow Wow Wow video turned me onto Falcons. It looked absolutely massive on Matt Ashton, which was so cool, like he tamed this huge beast. And then there was Annabella...
Anabella ❤️❤️🔥 The band was built around this beauty...the bass player was a very good flat picking bass player with a real percussive feel and the drummer slammed away with the “baramundi “ drum style...so described by Malcolm McClaren lol ...there is a similarity with Adam Ants sound and legend has it that bow wow wow were Adam Ants band before Malcom snatched them n started Bow wow....interestingly enuff...Marco Pironi of the Ants plays a beautiful falcon in Ant videos...and he bought it off Brian Setzer (who uses that falcon in the stray cat strut video) ...Brian tried to buy it back from Marco but allegedly Marco did not want to part with it for sentimental reasons...hey it was Adam n the Ants n they shook up the scene just like the Stray Cats...great story n legacy for the Gretch lovers out there- ....and James don’t forget to look at Duo Jets...Billy Zoom cmon now!
The Falcons are lovely. I’m keen on a lot Gretsch has to offer - that Great G sound (so much ‘air’in the notes!), the control layout (I’m keen on the master volume, and the tone switch), the thumbnail markers give the fretboard a classy look, they’re well put together, and I just feel great holding one!
Thanks. A friend of mine used to play this song , a bit differently, but I could never get close. Until now. As I heard it, Crosby wrote the music. Paul Kantner and Stephen Stills wrote the lyrics. The Jefferson Airplane do a good version
The sci-fi / apocalyptic vision seems to me so much more like Kantner than Crosby, no disrespect at all to Crosby. In fact, he gave Kantner his Have You Seen the Stars Tonight for Kantners masterpiece Blow Against the Empire. Agree, Airplane version is better with 3 great vocalists IMHO
deja vu was number one for me for a long time. used to put the album on every morning for a long period of time after I got out of the army. got my head out of the killing zone.
it seems like you are always giving lessons on songs that I'm too lazy to relearn. I know you intend this as a lesson but this lazy guy thanks you profusely. enjoy the day.
I enjoy your lessons a lot-thank you! You just seem to have an easy way about you, like you left your ego at the door. Anyway I hope to keep hearing more of those " Hey Yall's" in the future LOL :-)
I agree this a terrific lesson genuinely thank you especially since this is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands... I might have a man crush on Stephen Stills😮
That’s through a Peavey Classic 50. But I think the Gretsch has a lot to do with the tone. I could use the same amount of settings with a Les Paul or a Strat and it wouldn’t sound anything like this.
interesting thing is you're playing that E5 then that formation before the a is the E7 with the G# in the bass sounds cool. Oh yea, you can get that upwards motion from the G# - A - B in the bass if you dont play that g
Hey James ... what do you think about Coach K retiring? definitely a bummer ! one of the best ever IMO..,no doubt !!! anyway always liked this song, never though about learning it until now. great song and lesson ! you always pick excellent songs to cover ! Thanks James !!!
During last season, it was clear that Coach K's heart was no longer in it. I'm a long-time fan of Scheyer, so I'm glad he's getting his shot as head coach.
I think alot had to do with covid as well. .. I know he wanted to spend more time with family, who can blame him... Scheyer will do fine. I'm sure Coach K had alot of input on who should replace him.
Thank you for all your lessons!!! Please tell me the name of the guitar you are playing in this video plus what is the small orange amp you’re using in the background of this video? Thank you, again.
@@jamesjames9275 your a musician you'll understand big egos and personality clashes. There's that final Eagles (although they later played again) concert where the band ended the gig and started fighting each other.
Great job on a fantastic song, but Crosby's chord voicings on the chorus are a little different; he was a strange Byrd when it came to chords, he made up his own.
@@jamesjames9275 I immediately suspected hard times had befallen James James and he couldn't afford a new logo shirt. Your offer confirms my fears. Shades of The Who Sells Out. I know you're too proud to accept cash but perhaps your fans could provide you with appropriate logo shirts to keep you in the style you've become accustomed. Meanwbile... rock on!

I can't possibly thank you enough for all your awesome lessons. You have turned me into a living room rock star.
James James aka as 4 lessons a week what a legend
With a great guitar collection
All their music is still so good
Song is about aftermath of nuclear war
Love the Black Falcon! My Dad gave me an original 55 White Falcon in 78... John Entwistle offered me 20k fir it 2 weeks before he died!

We added a Hamond B3 buddy to the group when clubs started to open in the area loved doing CSNY back then
Thx. I never made any headway figuring this out. One of my favourite songs by them.
Great breakdown of Crosby's inventive voicings! Playing around with this progression kept me occupied all afternoon--thanks!

What a great chord progression, one of my favorites...thank you!
I love this song
Thanks. A friend of mine used to play this song , a bit differently, but I could never get close. Until now.
As I heard it, Crosby wrote the music. Paul Kantner and Stephen Stills wrote the lyrics.
The Jefferson Airplane do a good version
David Crosby says in an interview that he wrote the lyrics LOL
It's on Stephen's "Just Roll Tape" in '68, I'm sure David helped with arrangement for it with CSN, but I thought it was Stephen's song?
The sci-fi / apocalyptic vision seems to me so much more like Kantner than Crosby, no disrespect at all to Crosby. In fact, he gave Kantner his Have You Seen the Stars Tonight for Kantners masterpiece Blow Against the Empire. Agree, Airplane version is better with 3 great vocalists IMHO
I forgot this song, Thank You for the good work!!
Just great tune and good interpretentantion of it. This song is pure classic and psychedelic.
Some of this comes from striving to reach emotions defined in these tracks.
I'm fortunate to have found your channel.
Thanks
I like how you reference David Cosby very helpful I heard song got to learn. So great 👍
Thank you. You are a very good teacher.
This is so right on time!! I was trying to figure out this song a couple of days ago. Thank You 🙏 JJ !! ☮️❤️☮️

Great job! You explained it and demonstrated it well.
Such a great song ! Thanks, Great keyboards and a bass that is all over you... It was a great collaboration and you got it .
Love CSN+Y , Wooden Ships ! Awesome job young man !
Very cool! Well done, Thanks James!
Thanks buddy hope your health stays strong.
Thank you. Sounds great! Wish I could get the same sound. I really like Stills' bass line. And I like the Airplane's version, too.
Nice one! Thanks for putting it out there!
Bravo! YT needs more tutorials like this - and less zombie chord/campfire versions of great songs.
mmm, purple berries!
I've been eating them.
Six, Seven Weeks Now !
Never Got Sick One Time !
That is about as groovy as it gets. Thanks!
I read comments below see that you own Gretsch black falcon .. What brand is that orange amp you’re using behind you?

Good lesson. David Crosby chord changes for sure. I have a Gretsch also... good choice for that song.
Very helpful! thank you!
Excellent. I would like to know what you are using to get that sound

Purple berries are not silly!
There Fantastic Maaaaaan
Thanks a lot. I always thought they used a weird tuning I didn’t know on this which is why I could never work it out. Now I know! 👍
Never seen you with a Rickenbacker! I really like my Ric 620 Deluxe 6 string (small solid body like the 12 sting "Tom Petty" guitar).
I don't own a Rickenbacker -- maybe some day, though. That's a Gretsch Black Falcon.
Doesn’t look like a Rick?
Black Falcon!! Very nice, way beyond my budget!

Love the lesson. You know it doesn't sound like you have a terrible voice. I'm sure you must sing to your wife or have at one time or another.
Another great lesson,, Thank you…have you done Suite: Judy Blue Eyes in the strange E tuning?
Too daggum cool, thanks!
Love it!!!
Awesome lesson. Are Stills and Nash playing the same chord voicings or more standard open or barre chords? Or are these Stills' voicings? Probably.
Thank you for all your lessons!!!
Please tell me the name of the guitar you are playing in this video plus what is the small orange amp you’re using in the background of this video? Thank you, again.
I think the guitar is a Gretsch Country Gentleman.
No its not on second look- sorry missed the pickguard - I think it is a Gretsch G6136T Falcon.
8 Miles High is one weird song
There’s a really interesting rockumentary on David Crosby during which he says, really upset, none of my musicians friends talk to me these days.
No wonder really. He's been quite a dick to them
Graham Nash is one of the truly gentle souls in pop music, and if you've lost Graham...

Gretsch Black Falcon.
