      Really? Isn't Wigan the most popular form of Catch Wrestling, which started in the UK (Wigan England)? One would think that this stuff would be common in the UK but I'm an American on the outside looking in.

    • @liukang85

      It's because the Gracies were aggressively promoting BJJ from different angles.
      Also, I think watering CACC down to pro wrestling didn't do the sport a favor, either, because this made people associate catch with faked realism.
      Last but not least, not enough schools internationally, I'd say... nobody knows this is a martial art even, because there are no schools to be seen anywhere... I live in Berlin and there's one place that does 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu that hints at also teaching some catch techniques, apart from that it's BJJ all over the place.

      @@liukang85 don't forget the long history of hiding the art from general knowledge. Only the "hookers" of the day knew what was up. It's killed the art and also created room for a lot of fakery.

    A guy came up to us while we were practicing the first takedown and told us it was a bad way of attacking, because when you lift the leg from a standing position, he could just roll you back over his shoulder as a counter.
    I think you know what you're teaching, I told him there's always a counter (if you attack from below, the counter would be sprawling....).
    What is your take on this?
    Thank you so much for all these instructional videos!

    • @SnakePitUSA
      @SnakePitUSA  4 года назад +2

      can_of_woopwoop That first takedown is step by step exactly how Billy Robinson taught it. It’s not my favorite way of attacking with a single, but I’m not about to doubt anything that man taught me. You’re absolutely correct, everything has a counter and there’s a counter to the counter. I appreciate the support. 🙏🏻- J Bane

    • @SnakePitUSA

      Big Member Note: One of the main reasons is to first, hyper extend the arm, 2nd force them half way to you, and lastly it prevents the re-drag. It’s just an old Catch variation. We use both with several set ups off different tie ups in our program. Thanks for watching.

      I don't dislike it because I feel that it doesn't work, rather I dislike it cus the first 2 times someone did it to me they went at the elbow and I got injured. at the time I was like 280 pounds and the first fool didn't tell me what he was going to do he was just like "let me show this guy I'm working with something" and I was like oh sure what are we doing 'pow' I'm like dude wtf?!
      it left a bad taste in my mouth

    On running the pipe, why have your head outside?

    • @SnakePitUSA
      @SnakePitUSA  5 лет назад +3

      Derek Terrill great question. Notice it’s off of an inside single step. Instead of the typical set up with the outside single head up and against the chest. This was a pure Billy Robinson move. We teach both to carry on the legacy and to constantly ensure the highest percentage takedowns are taught in our program. 👍🏻 - J. Bane

    Take care in the head-oudside single-leg position. Some people try to drop down with you, ramming your head into the mat, possibly resulting in neck injury. The side step at the end of technique is key to bringing opponent down but staying up yourself. If you 'tackle' your opponent from head-outside single-leg position, you can get hurt badly.

      HOTRODRICO but how if your wearing jeans will the damage be less?

    • @liukang85
      @liukang85 4 года назад

      You don't actually slide as you would in Baseball... it's just called that way because it looks like it. There's no real weight on your skin on most of the 'sliding' motions here, and there isn't much skin contact with the ground either, if you look closely.

    This are not beginner takedowns. You had better have your bread and butter takedowns and counters down first.

    The instructor is much bigger than the student, so of course the stuff is going to work. Anything he does is going to work.
