Just bought myself a 17 plate 595 in Podium Blue as my first car. Couldn’t agree with you more, it has character in spades & the sound is cracking. Great video, got yourself a new viewer 🤘🏻
Fun review - its nice to see the obvious enthusiasm. The most adorable thing about the A5oo (or 595, 695) is how they just get under your skin. Its hard to explain. There are some obvious "better" hot hatches - on paper, but few that are so stupidly fun to drive.
Had mine since 2011 and I call it my forever car - cannot see myself ever selling her. My other cars are much faster but its the A5oo that is my go to car if I want to have a blast
@Queen B slight correction @02:30, that's the pre-2018 version (160bhp) - you have to find one from late 2017 onward for 180bhp as stock: you'll also get 4-pot X-drilled Brembo's, even more rorty exhaust and not a 500 badge in sight! I had a 2018 595C (same colour as yours except for the much bigger bright yellow Brembo's)... it was only "mine" for a month and I'd have to agree with most of your points, mostly it is a LOT of fun, but a little frustrating at the same time: the front LSD and TC make it a lot less adjustable on the throttle than it should be, but it sounds amazing and is very chuckable - it's just the frustration until you try to accelerate out of a corner and the TC dials you back. The rev limiter also felt really low for a car then rips through the revs so quickly and has such short gearing. Recommended upgrade - sort out the gearshift bushings: I drove several other small-ish cars while I had the 595C as a daily and even the 15yr old TT and 12yr old MR2 gearboxes felt amazing compared to the 595C... and the new MX5 GT Sport (180bhp NA!) was almost as chirpy and had a much, MUCH sweeter gearshift. Every time I got back in the 595C, it felt like lumpy porridge... and then I'd start it up and the angry little chav-chariot soundtrack would rumble into life and everybody in the carpark would look around for the Mustang.... and back onto the grin :) I prefer your E21, although never driven one: my first ever car was an already very old E30.

No traction control....but the TTC function acts as a limited slip diff and will adjust wheel rotation on fast corners - sorted love.
This is a very thorough driving review of the Abarth. I have a 2013 Abarth Cabriolet I purchased two months ago which I love, for under $10,000 USD (mint w/ 35,500 miles). I added under $1000 in upgrades and it is such a blast. She says it is like driving a go-kart and I say that in my head almost every time I drive it. I don't have an issue w/ the steering wheel - I actually like it's size as I feel like I'm driving a race car and not my Toyota. I do have a question for Queen B - you have a bunch of upgrades on your 595. I'm not sure if they all got installed around the same time but if not, which upgrade do you like the best and why? I'm looking to do some additional upgrades and not sure what to do next. I already have an upgraded air intake, exhaust, ECU, and GoPedal.
I used to have a 106gti that was like that. Absolutely loved it. I’ve got a car with a lot more power than that now but I still miss the Gti days....and the saxo vts. But the Gti was better
I liked your opening comment that you love it because it’s makes you laugh. We need two cars in the household maybe once every couple of weeks, and I’m looking at these on pcp for £1000 deposit and £150 a month. It’s like annoying enough to cause an issue, but I don’t want to spend a lot on a car that’ll sit on the drive 6 days a week. They are laughably cheap, and this means we can then upgrade the main car from a C43 AMG to an E63S. Spending £100 to £150 a month on a second car that’ll sit on the drive 6 days a week is negligible and these seem such a laugh because they just have that dumb fun character. Tbh I think your video has sold me on this car more than anybody else’s I’ve seen, there was a lot that you mentioned that I could relate to. Cheers.

Brilliant! Good to see you back. I just swapped to a 2014 Comp, so its only 160BHP but love it. It's my daily work car too, I drive all over the country in it.
Rad review and rad car! Have you tried holding the ESC button to fully defeat traction control? One press relaxes it, holding it for 5-10 seconds with trigger full traction control off.

I was very close in getting a low mileage baby blue Abarth. But after reading so many issues owners were having with them, I backed off and ended up getting a 9th gen orange Civic Si coupe, which i absolutely love with no regrets. But these cars do have their charm, despite probably not being the most reliable.

As an owner of one, I'm still watching all reviews possible. One thing is sure - there is nothing like Abarth :) By the way, you might want to check your coolant level, from this angle 0:20 it looks low, especially if engine was warm.
@Here's ya supper pal! I've always thought that coolant level is higher when engine is hot. Need to read a more about it since did small fill up in my Abarth recently
@Here's ya supper pal! super confused now mate hah! so if coolant expands when it's warm means level would be actually higher. That's what my first thought was when I watched vid. With warm engine it was low already so when cold it could actually be even lower.
They tell you to check levels when it's cold to see the true coolant level present. When your car is warm, heat expands and the coolant level expands hence the increase. It's not lower at all. My car is lower once cold but rises when it's warm as the coolant expands

Great video and that sound 👌 my 1st car was a cammed Saxo VTS with full super sprint race exhaust and 4-2-1 manifold, made me laugh and smile every time I got behind the wheel.
And it would be also today way faster than this 500 abarth. 106 and saxo are unbeatable in a twisty road

Is not being able to turn off the traction control a European thing? On my North American spec Abarth I’m able to turn it off.
just wanna verify--you are holding it down for like 6 seconds right? if you just tap it once it only disables it "half way"

Press the TTC button on. It reduces traction control and ESP and does some fancy things with the brakes to mimic a LSD giving more power to the wheel with traction. 👍

Love, You can definitely turn OFF THE TRACTION. Control -if you hold the break and hold the traction control button for 5 sec it will turn it off 100% 6:25
I can understand you because i have one 595 competizione like you said its so much more fun to drive then other cars i would say the car has a soul every time i drive the car even 2 years after i bought im smiling and thats the point :)

Test drove a stick abarth ....she ended up buying a veloster 2019. These are fun cars though but you need a friend named Tony who can fix cars to be available full time. Try the miata 2.0. That will really make you smile.
these cars have had big impact on. mines a year old now and not once got in it and not had that fucking massive grin. nice little car that is esp in that colour.

Them abarths are the most fun you can have for a little hatch. I only have the 135bhp one. Also there is traction control on auto but the TTC is actually the traction control and the car will fly round a corner 😂

I have owned a few Italian cars, Fiats, Lancias, and Alfas. While all were a joy to drive, I find my Abarth 500 (we never got the hotter versions in the states) brings out the absolute hooligan in me. Never have I driven a car that prods the driver to be so anti-social while still staying within the bounds of the law. I would be afraid to mod mine lest I rack up a few tickets.

On the limit, it’s pure dangerous. Off roundabouts, straight line, even speed runs it’s fine. Lift off oversteer in the wet snaps so hard you’ll end up in a ditch (or nearly in the side of a Ford galaxy coming the other way)
