    I like his style, no-nonsense approach, to life (logging), ready-smile, gosh ( good sense of humour) etc.

    While I am not a saw miller type I sure did enjoy this video. As a boy on the farm we never even had a chain saw but we did have cross cut saws, nope I did not like them at all. The thing I couldn't get over is how clean that place is. Shows what good operators do. .Thanks .Andy .. Jack .The Old Scovy.

      Thanks for watching Jack. These kinds of places impress me. I really like seeing the equipment and how other businesses work. Theres so much more that goes into sawing lumber than I ever thought. Yes, I was very impressed with how the place was clean and well run. Ole Wade is one of the good ones and glad to call him a buddy of mine.

    Thank you for sharing the story & tour Andy ! Phil did a timber harvest at our farm about 17 years ago . Remember him telling how the narrow " Kerf" of the band mill saved allot of saw dust over time . Phil was always interested in new ideas . Funny part is back then "Logger Wade " was a teenager at the time . He still looks & sounds like the teenager young at heart . LOL!

      I really did Dave, learned a lot. Its really a fascinating place. I really enjoyed the room where they fix the blades and bands. Want to get back there sometime and video it working and put the 2 videos together. This was a last minute tour and it was on a Sunday so nothing was working. What made it nice tho was climbing all over the machines and getting an up close look at everything. This video hasn't got the views that I normally get, but I love doing these types of things, and just getting to hang out with friends that I have met through youtube. Thanks Dave.

    Have a good friend who was a saw filer, he taught me a lot and was very good at his trade. There is a lot more to cutting wood than meets the eye. I worked in a OSB mill for 25 years and we used a lot of saws at various stages in the process. Biggest wood we could run in our ring debarkers was 31 inches sharpening carbide and installing new teeth is an art.

    I used to do maintenance in a hardwood flooring mill that runs everything he has and more. The mill I worked at had kill's to dry thousands of board feet. As I was watching all I thought about was all the maintenance that goes into keeping it all working. It takes a lot to fix things when they break if you don't have a good team. It is heavy and dirty work fixing things laying in sawdust. Some of the saw heads I worked on weighed 90 pounds and changing them during a break they would make my kevlar gloves smoke. Kevlar was the only thing I could find that gave protection from the sharp cutters and heat. Thanks to you and logger wade for the video.

      Harmless Farmer - Andy Detwiler ..... Yeah I was kidding about Wade being so smart, it was just a country joke. Probably just country would take it that way. But just goes to show a person with a rolled billed hat with grease on it and work boots with crap ground in them isn't as uneducated as people with suits on and shinny shoes think they are. May not be formal education but years of on the job and picking the brain of old timers before them. Remember any one can be thought to be a farmer. All it takes is a hole, seed, dirt, water and your good to go!!! Some people in this country are not only born stupid i truly think they take classes to get at a higher level of it.

    We have 2 long yards and keep it pretty full and buyers from all over line up to purchase logs every week, this is a needed business not only for production timber but for management.

    • @HarmlessFarmerAndyDetwiler
      @HarmlessFarmerAndyDetwiler  4 года назад +1

      When we filmed this, we used 2 different kinds, I was using the Yi 4K+. Don't get one of those, they don't hold up and the sound quality is terrible. The camera Corkey had was a GoPro Black Hero 7. They are better and the sound is way better. Now we just use the GoPro 7 and the OSMO Action camera from DJI. They seem to work out pretty well.We have 2 of each. I prefer the OSMO over the GoPro. I always have a OSMO with me, but have a GoPro close by. They each have their faults, but I I had to have just one of them, Id buy an OSMO. Easier to use and it hasn't ever locked up on me where the GoPro 7 will sometime. Nobody makes the perfect camera, especially for what we are doing. Dirt, moisture, hot and cold weather, these cameras are in it all, and we require water proof cameras, so we are locked into these two. Haven't herd much good from the GoPro 8 other than sound is better. Just My Opinion

      Yep, thats the difference in the GoPro 7 Black Corkey had and the Yi 4K+ that I had. When I am videoing, there's a fuzzy spot in the middle of the frame also, its a scratch in the middle of my lens. Although I dislike the GoPro tremendously, its still the better camera of the two

      Lol. I honestly never noticed that fuzzy spot until I read your reply. Then it stood out like a sore thumb. Rather annoying know I know it there.

    As an experienced sawyer and saw filer, I think the tour should have incorporated the people that actually do the jobs. Anyone without prior sawmill knowledge would not have a clue what this guy was talking about. He jumped around so much in his explanations and combined with the vagueness and improper terminologies made it tricky to follow. Not bashing though. I always enjoy seeing the inner workings of sawmills and what makes each one a little different from the last/next.

      It was a Sunday and nobody was working. He said in the video that he didn’t do most of the jobs in the mill, he’s the one doing most of the cutting in the woods. I was thrilled to get the tour and thrilled to get to climb all over the machines. Also, I had to cut about an hour worth of video out or it would have been a 2 hour video. I learned a lot, I never knew what it took to cut lumber and was very impressed
