James Cameron saw Two Towers, realized how good CGI had gotten, was inspired to make avatar, shopped it around to several vfx companies, and finally the same one who made Navi’s worked on Gollum for this film. Gollum is his own grandfather
I only noticed now that Gollum here doesn't yet have the scars on his back that he had when we saw him in the LotR films, presumably from his time being tortured in Mordor after he left the Misty Mountains.
Gollum only appeared in one scene in the book. Andy Serkis completed that scene during the first week of production, but stayed on as second unit director.
@@samuraishinobi He had only nine in the movie, and only six in the book. He's not going to do the th or dh sounds well. And in-universe, the Westron language had the th sound (e.g., "tharni" for "farthing").
I mean, the only other possible option is Bilbo's encounter with Smaug. That's not me saying I dislike the trilogy, just the filmmakers knew what the money shots are.
In the book bilbo could not actually see gollum besides his eyes, its called “riddles in the dark” because it was PITCH black but gollums eyes were white and bright (excuse me for that stupid description but you understand. And I understand that in the movie it was bright so the viewers could see.) so somehow bilbo could only see them (his eyes incase you forgot with those other things i put in those brakets) . Also in the book it mentions that gollum had a boat so his small rock/island was pretty far away, and he would row closer to bilbo whenever he was stuck with a answer he would row closer to bilbo which is f@#*ing terrifying! Anyways the movie is still nice and they did a great job and I’m glad they explained how gollum lost the ring i the movie because in the book Bilbo just finds it in the dark snd picks it up.
The riddles in the dark wouldn’t really work in the movie if it was pitch black so it was a good move to make it so people can see it. Some scenes work in books like building suspense with pure darkness while other scenes have to be changed in order to fit the visual medium like film
Yeah in the book Gollum is more like some terrifying eldritch creature inhabiting the deepest crevice of the mountain, and in the movies he's... well this
James Cameron saw Two Towers, realized how good CGI had gotten, was inspired to make avatar, shopped it around to several vfx companies, and finally the same one who made Navi’s worked on Gollum for this film. Gollum is his own grandfather
The actors really made this trilogy. Andy, Martin, Benedict... even other actors' expressions and all. 👏👏👏 That combined with great CGI. Better music placement possibly along with camera work. Obviously that would evolve from 2001.
I fuckin live Smeagol. I would watch a a trilogy of just him livin his life 4 hours each movie. I hate that they killed him and that he lost to Gollum in the end.
At first, I thought Gollum was just guessing the riddles wrong and Bilbo can’t do anything about it because Gollum would be on the brink of attacking him if he spoils the game, but no, Gollum really got the answers right when I listened carefully to Bilbo’s riddles he shoots.
I don’t know how I never noticed this but when Smeagol is in control his pupils are wide and innocent, but when Gollum is in control his pupils turn small and menacing.
This isn't fair it's two against one
In the end bilbo tricked them both lol
I have a question, when you mean two are you referring to the Ring and Seamgol as one conscious mind?
@@theparrishshow9803 Smeagol and Gollum
@@TheUndyingCrystal
Gollum basically is the ring overtaking Sméagolz mind, right?
It is nice to see Sméagol having actual fun for the first time in centuries.
The animation in this is simply breath taking, Gollum's expressions are soooo good.
One would hope, it's all mo-capped.

Is it just me or does Smeagol actually think of better riddles than Bilbo? For a deformed unnatural hermit hobbit he's pretty smart
Yeah, but the books mention that Bilbo is quite scared and says whatever he can here because he couldn't think properly.
Juan Laise yeah..... the book also says that Sméagol used to play riddles with his grandmother and friends. It was his favorite game.
it's been 500 years with the one ring and look what it did to him.
he's not thinking them up, he's remembering them from before
And Bilbo ends up cheating too haha. What’s in my pocket is not a riddle.
"Well?"
"It's nasty..."
My thought was that he was saying the answer to the riddle was nasty
0:23 I love the way he says “teef?” like a student asking the teacher if the answer to their question is correct 💀💀
For a deformed 500 year old psycho who’s had no company aside from an likely possessed ring, Gollum’s pretty smart
I only noticed now that Gollum here doesn't yet have the scars on his back that he had when we saw him in the LotR films, presumably from his time being tortured in Mordor after he left the Misty Mountains.
Yes and his hair is shorter, and he looks younger since he still has the ring
1:33 He legit says "This is Bullshit"
I heard it
Made me laugh so hard rn🤣🤣🤣🤣
I heard it too it made me laugh so hard 😂😂
But he actually whispered box in a low voice.
He doesn't, but it's funny to think he did.

@@jordantoczek3237 i can understand. But it would have been cool to have it quite dark and hard for bilbo to see.
The book explains how Gollum lost the ring. He was wearing it to catch a goblin and it slipped without him realizing, then Bilbo found it
Yeah in the book Gollum is more like some terrifying eldritch creature inhabiting the deepest crevice of the mountain, and in the movies he's... well this
The Rankin Bass version of this scene was truer to the book.
My favorite is when he figures out its eggs, the face he makes is just funny af

0:23 Gollum: Teeth? TEEEETH!
Gollum looks much better in the Hobbit. I guess because of the advances in CGI.
I think they made the effort to make him look younger, since after losing the ring he aged faster.
