    This last Saturday I was finally able to get a trogon for the first time over at the parking lot at the top of the canyon. Madera will always be one of my favorite places to go.

    Love that shot of the Montezuma Quail perched on the cliff. Great lighting and composition, interesting surrounding scenery, and an adorable subject. Cropped and zoomed in a bit, it'd make a nice calendar picture.

    I stayed at the Santa Rita Lodge, this past April, and was able to photograph hummingbirds right on my cabin deck feeder, as well as other birds around me. I did see Rivoli’s, Anna’s, Rufous, Black Chinned, Broad Tailed, Broad Billed, as well as a Berylline. On top of that, I did see and photograph the Elegant Trogon, on my second try, up the Old Baldy Trail. It was an amazing trip, and plan to go back next spring. If interested in hummingbirds, there is the International Hummingbird Festival in Sedona, Arizona, at the very end of July. I went 2 years ago, and it was phenomenal, and will be going back this year.

      I did know about them in kind of a vague, conceptual way, but I hadn't actually seen one before. Looks like a lot of fun! The communal checklist is a nice idea. Nobody is competing to find more birds, the whole festival is just tallying everyone's finds up together. That's wholesome.

    I will just be finishing up in Big Bend national Park for a few hours this morning, then I will be in southeast Arizona tonight, for 5 more days of my 30-day birding adventure 👍
    But yea, SE AZ is freaking amazing 🙂
    Really hoping for my Red Faced and Olive Warblers 🙂

    Any tips or things you wish you knew when visiting the festival? Birding that area in the summer tips?

    • @BadgerlandBirding
      @BadgerlandBirding  7 месяцев назад +1

      I found Tucson the city could feel a little sketchy sometimes, so keep an eye on what part of town you’re in. I didn’t have any bad experiences just some of the vibes in certain places were different. Bring lots of water and a bucket hat. Try to hit the lower elevations in the morning and do the higher elevation areas a little later since it’s not as hot up in spots such as Mount Lemmon (although the birding will still be best in the morning). Check the hours of places because sometimes they’re weird, such as Ramsey Canyon being closed two days during the week. It’s an epic birding location! Just typing this made me wanna go back 🤣
