Tami Traylor Hey! So I have tomato, squash, cucumber, & bell pepper. They’re growing very well, but not producing nothing. My tomato plant is bout my height (I’m 5’9’) but no fruit 😔 the squash & bell peppers (green) constantly grows flowers but they just fall off. I just added a lemon tree to the bunch. At the point I just water them and leave them alone and just see what happens 🤷🏾‍♀️lol good thing is I got the groove of growing them & more knowledge so when I move in my house (I’m praying soon🤞🏽) I’ll know exactly what to do.. I hope ALL is well with you ✨✨💜

@@boom-shocka-la3393 awesome and thanks all is great. Try pruning the suckers and lower branches off of the tomatoes, then add cal-mag and a little fish fert and see if that helps the tomatoes focus on fruits because indeterminates can fruit all year if maintained well. Happy growing 💕💕💕

Omg, FINALLY. Thank you for noting that a 16" bell shaped container is roughly 5 gallons of soil. I've been trying to figure it out for DAYS.
Most sites say 5 gallon containers, but are referring to perfectly cylindrical buckets, but if you go to your local garden center (Lowes, Walmart), most containers are bell shaped.
Very useful information! I'll keep going for the big boys! Hopefully I'll have large enough containers to support all kinds of fruits and vegetables throughout the year!

Hi, I just want to thank you so much for making this look so easy, without any fuss 12:23). After watching this video I FINALLY planted my first plant/herb from seed. I planted 13 seeds (too many!) Into an 8 inch wide container. Used Promix organic herb and vegetable potting soul, no fertilizer (didn't have any) and spring and rain water. I started on June 28th, and just two days later I began to see 15 green dots peeking through. Today, 5 days later I see the stems growing longer. Guys, just start! Don't overthink it.
I think in the besr future I might news to separate all the basil. Next time I'll go easy on the number of seeds I use. Lol!
    Thanks again!

I have been sitting here watching your videos for a couple of hours now! Extremely informative. How do we know if a container is too big for a particular plant? I had a gardener friend come over and tell me the pot I chose for my plant was too big and would kill it, they were about the same size relative to what is shown in the video. I have also found that when I pick a pot that is too big, the roots tend to get really, really long. Not sure if this is a bad thing...

I wish I watched this before I planted my first garden this year. I didn’t know there was a specific soil for containers and only used garden soil. Is there anything I can do at this point since the vegetables have already grown a decent amount? If not, do I just mix in a potting mix like how you did when the spring/summer crops are done? I’m suspecting me using garden soil is the reason why I’m having so many issues with pests.

Gary do you need to add a couple tbs of fertilizer every couple weeks(as some other vids on same subject say) after that initial amount added when setting up, or not? I never fully trust what the bag says because the manufacturer wants ya to have to buy more eventually.

    • @THERUSTEDGARDEN
      @THERUSTEDGARDEN  4 года назад +2

So no unless you have lame soil. I mostly use it now at planting in the planting hole and some mid season. If the plants are doing great and entering the fall, so more. But that is for earth beds. Containers are really every 2-4 weeks as the plants get big. There is just not a normal echo system in there and the plants suck the life out of the soil.

Great video on container gardening! One thing though, you said dill get really big...mine doesn't. Not sure what I do wrong, but, it only gets about 8 inches tall then flowers, then the leaves tastes weird. This year I am trying to do succession seeding with it, hoping to get some when the cucumbers are ready to pickle. Also, I always heard herbs don't need fertilizer...maybe that's my problem, lol.

Hey I'm going to start my first garden using this video as a guide. You said every other day or everyday if it gets hot. It's basically hit everyday here because I live in the caribbean, so do I water it every day?

Congrats on getting started. So the bigger the pot, the less watering you have to do and the smaller the plant the less. But as the plants get larger, yeah probably daily.

Kind of unrelated to this video but I have a question about using grow lights. Ive heard you say you have yours on a timer where its 16 hours on and 8 hours off. Do the plants need that 8 hours off? what happens to the plants if you just leave the light on all the time?

They do need darkeness but I dont know what happens if you left them on. There would be issues.

What about using grow bags for peppers and tomatoes. Do those dry out too fast too like terra cotta?

Grow bags are great. 10 gallon and 20 gallon. I use them now and actually sell them

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN Great because I was looking at purchasing the Root Pouch bags they use recycled plastic bottles. Watching review youtube videos on them now.
