Phil, love these "room tour" chats. Simple sensible advice👍
Since sleep and performance go hand in hand - should we brace for advice in the form of a "bedroom chat"😉
Incidentally, I've always had issues with hydration. Found it to be a chore since my body wasn't craving. Yet after 50 miles, I'd always fade. To this day, I find it difficult, but your right in that you need to plan, prep & act on it.
Moto : If you fail to prepare, then prepare to fail.💪
Love your shirt! Great video as always!
That sounds expensive, unless you're sponsored and get your bars and recovery drinks for free.
Just bars alone:
36hr week (way too intense for me, but some guys probably do that), 1 bar per hour, equals 2x18 bar mixed pack from pickybar, $90....
Personally I'd probably manage about 10hrs/week max. That's still $27,50... A recovery drink would set me back $3,50, so all in all 4 rides, 10 hrs/week $41,50.
So would be good to have some recipes which would be much cheaper than buying bars and drinks etc. and could make in bulk for the week. Call me basic, but I take bananas with me. They're cheap, full or energy, easy to swallow and eat on the go. For drinks I mix 50% cloudy apple juice and water in one bottle for some sugars, and 100% water in the other.
Post ride I try to eat something soon after or make a smoothie or something.
Perhaps if I did 6hr rides I would need to expand my budget or something though.
does apple juice have salt? like sport drinks
@@Red-ju4mi dunno, but if you want to add salt, then add salt (just measure it appropriately)
Lets see more videos about food!! I really enjoyed your nonsense approach. If you do cook Id like to hear what you cook and also how you shop and stock your fridge and pantry to make sure you are prepared to cook for your training needs. Thanks and a really good video.
"no nonsense
Phil - how much does nutrient timing matter in real life? Are you timing protein and carb intake based on activity or is it just calories in and calories out?
Phil is starting to look like a dad lol
Luca Brasi 1017 love this comment 😆
My only disappointment is that I'm restricted to one thumbs up for this advice! Lovin the content Phil.
Good advice Phil 🍪
About purposing things to what I'm doing. So mostly with all the races cancelled, my weekend rides are just riding to a big hill endurance pace then trying to PR it which is threshold. Think Mt.Diablo. 1 hour to get there and 1 hour to climb it. Does it then make sense to break the 3 hours before rule a little? So instead of waiting 3 hours to ride, just wait 1.5hrs or so and by the time you hit your PR destination and riding it, your oatmeals are well in your bloodstream.
Thanks for these Phil! They are helpful.
That would risk being depleted and behind before you hit the climb. Stick to 3 hrs and eat a bar when you’re 30 min from the base, then another at the top to get you home
@@worstretirementever ah! makes sense. Thanks Phil!
Bars? What about gels?
I love Quarantino's work... is "Kill Phil Pt 3" in the works?
I eat steak and egg burritos before races, Ive made podium once
Disregard what’s said in the movie “A Sunday in Hell” - “A rare steak is a good breakfast for what’s to come.”
And there was me expecting "cookie, cookie, cookie" :)
beardo gettin rowdy!
Tuned out when Phil referred to 1/4 as ‘a fourth’
Anyone outside the US eats grits or can even buy it?
I’ve never had them (I had to look up what it is/they are). I’m sure people who want it can get it online, but not from supermarkets
Poop on the bus? That would never be kosher with a rock band bus. I have read stories...
Eat, Wait........Poop, Race/Train. sounds like a normal day on the bike for me.
oh shit this is so cool ! "the basic rule (pros), you start eating breakfast three hours before ... " Okay, biodiversity I guess, but I've been wondering and fooling around with this exact thing .. water, coffee .. two hours to wake up and get motivated? three hours?? eat? not eat? WHEN
by the way a bunch of great videos, really enjoying them; also read most of your book, with some friends, over at the Barnes and Noble before it shut down (also they had Tyler Hamilton's book; he's my favorite cyclist I think). cheers from central Ohio
Wooohooo 🥳👋
yummy
apparently hes 34. but looks 54 :(
It’s the beard (:
Step one: Buy EPO from sketchy doctor
Elliot Fleming stupid, unhelpful comment
@@MrAndypree It was satire. chill out
Elliot Fleming hmm no, I get it was satire, I’m not an imbecile. But it’s an unhelpful comment. Imagine hundreds of people all commenting the same, it damages the sport. So no, I won’t chill out. Try growing up.
@@MrAndypree Do you seriously think someones gonna see my comment and think its a good idea to take EPO? I think the medical research far outweighs my satire youtube comment. Sorry I hurt your feelings though.
Elliot Fleming no mate, I don’t think that, I said it was damaging to the sport not to people. And if the medical research was enough to deter people, well, they wouldn’t do it. It’s more about people’s opinions of the sport in general. Look, it doesn’t matter.
