Goosky RS4 is about 285 grams lighter when both helis are without their batteries. That's about 28% lighter. It's a huge amount. Obviously Goosky did not clone the Raw 420.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 a clone would mean it has interchangeable parts. It's not even the same size. Has different servo layout both on the head and tail. No way it could be considered a clone. If anything it was inspired by the raw 420 but that's it.
Hi Jeff, I was re-watching your SAB 420 series and wanted to ask what the difference is between threadlock and retaining compound as you use both. I know threadlock is for screws into metal. Could it be used instead of retaining compound where you used that instead?
Sorry for the delay in response, I just seen this comment. Retaining compound is used for stuff like bearings or any metal to metal surface you don’t want to come apart. Technically speaking you can use heat and get it apart but it is a stronger compound than blue Loctite. But used for bearing and pinions (like press fit) blue loctite is used in 99% of your build on all models.
I don’t own a Blade fusion 480 (yet) but they are two different class models. The 420 (420mm blade) is smaller by a bit then the Fusion 480 (480mm blade but really a 550 class model) both are great models and I think the fusion 480 is incredible value. But I love my 420!
I wish You could test it once again but using mini Ikon2 in the goodsky RS4 as you did with the 420. As I understand I can buy the rs4 without the FBL and ESC.
Hey bud!! Really like and appreciate your videos! On this video and the one of you building your RAW 420… looks like you have you anti rotation bracket backwards
Thank you, I appreciate it. It’s not backwards, that’s how it’s shown in the SAB manual and if you look at the way the bracket is facing it should go back but it’s not going to matter as it will do the same thing both ways.
Thanks man!! This is my 7th kit of there’s I’m building.. in my manuel, it shows SAB towards the servos.. one of very few grey areas in all of the builds I’ve done… Was your pin on your swash kind of tight in the anti rotation guide compared to others?
As an RS4 Venom owner who went with the base kit and added my own Servos/ESC/FC.....I would go back in time and get the Raw420 base kit for the extra $70 because SAB. At the time, I just wanted to add another Goosky to complete my beginner fleet. TBH, I'd like to see a tuned RS4 Venom (a base kit excluding their mediocre avionics) vs. tuned Raw 420; that would be a fair video. Goosky is a good craft, but the S1/S2/RS4 Venom ends my journey with them. No interest in the upcoming RS5 or an RS7.
@@philipbrits2984 the RS4 venom is a lot better then the regular RS4. I could make a video on the two. Didn’t know if there would be enough interest in it.
RS4 parts will definitely be cheaper than the 420 parts. They are very close to wing servers but they are a tad smaller and you can’t use just any servo because you can’t adjust/reprogram frequency of the Servo in the FBL unit.
Great job. Very cool comparison 👍maybe for Goosky will be fit some plane aleiron servos. Have the same mountings. For me, however, goosky wins because of the weight. The goblin, as usual, is heavy.
Thank you, so you can’t just use regular plane wings servos. Main reason is because you cannot set frequency and Hertz in the FBL and most planes servos are slower then Heli servos. They are also a tad bit bigger (I tried a few wing severs I have laying around)
@@westhobbiesrc8051 Well, yes, I didn't think about frequency. I hope that similar to s2, Servos will not be expensive. For now, I am waiting for the possibility of ordering a model and the availability of spare parts.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 Yes, that's a fact. Initially, I thought about the PNP version, but after your experience with FBL I'd rather use Brain and my own esc
So then it’s probably better for you to get the kit version. I’ll be putting a iKon in it leaving the stock ESC. I want to see if the stock ESC gives out telemetry because it does show battery voltage on the app.
So I'm still super new to the hobby, do you typically set up your throttle curves to be consistent and only control the collective pitch or do your throttle curves typically vary at all?
So both ways. I run Flat throttle curves. But you have Idle up mode “Stunt” mode. In those modes it holds your throttle at a flat line percentage whatever you send it to and gives you a linear collective movement so when you are doing 3-D your motor stays at a consistent RPM and you just move the collective up and down for positive and negative.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 that's what I was kind of figuring, is there any instances where I would want a linear throttle curve? That's how I kind of set up my M2 Evo but I might consider changing it to a more flat line throttle curve and just keep it at a more consistent RPM. Unless it's in normal mode so I can control when the blades start up using the throttle stick. If you get a chance can you make a video about your set up on your simulator as well. I read through your comments and I noticed that you use the simulator to really refine your skills and I would personally be interested in seeing your setup on it. Thanks again for all your help and your great videos!
@@Lance57H you don’t want a linear throttle curve, the main reason is because you will be consistently changing the head speed which consistently affects the keto. So as you go up and down from 0 to 100 the head speed raises and drops as you move your throttle/collective stick. So in normal mode I set a 0-50-50-50-50 then Idle 1 70-70-70-70-70 and Idle 2 100-100-100-100-100. If you watch my M2 EVO set up video I explain my radio settings. Having a zero on normal mode allows you to still use your throttle to control the motor off and on when you’re at zero but it gives you a consistent head speed throughout the cyclic range so it’s not raising and dropping. Yes, I still practice with a simulator as much as I can. I don’t think you can ever be too good for the simulator. Anytime I want to practice something new or put some kind of flying routine together I get on the simulator and try. I tried to aim for about 30 minutes of simulator time a day. But it doesn’t always work that way LOL I can try and do a video on simulators set up and what I do. Thank you! I’m glad you enjoy the videos and I hope you continue to learn from them!
Very helpful, thank you. For a relative beginner, would you suggest the 420 or the RS4? The simplicity and less parts of the RAW attracts me-but so does the price of the RS4! :P
I'm in exactly the same thought process as you! Very difficult. As a first time heli builder myself, hearing Geoff say that the SAB was easier was interesting.
I decided to buy the 420. I have only been flying since November. Destroyed several learning the process of set up to TX and crashing. Also, getting a taste of quality matters. Which led me to purchase a goosky S2, and it's an amazing, literally ready out of the box heli. Hrs and hrs of flying fun. 7min 30 sec flights with 850 packs. I have watched alot of Goblin videos and chose the 420
So the RAW 420 is definitely a less part count and easier to build model. But! The FBL setup on the RS4 is super simple. The no soldering is also very nice on the RS4 and simple plug everything in and go. Parts will be cheaper on the RS4 vs the RAW 420. Luckily you have a step-by-step build videos from me to help you along the way of your build on which ever model you choose. The RS four has auto level right out of the box. I know you can set it on most FBLs on the market but the set up is so much easier for a newer person. So with that, I would recommend the RS4.
@WestHobbiesRC Thanks for that in depth answer comparing the two. Not having to solder or try to work out how to set up the fbl unit is an advantage for someone like me. Decisions decisions!
The only problem I have with the Goblin is that there really isn't a place for a full-size receiver. Seems like everything these days is for a Spectrum or Vbar receivers.
The main reason is because there is no need for a full-size receiver. Satellites now are full range receivers like the SRXL2 and very small. But depending on what radio you are flying you can always put the receiver on the right side on the inside of the frame by the tail servo as others have put it there.
I wonder if these types of things are what people think may be ufos.... They certainly move as described albeit this one is loud and small but just imagine what tech the military has had already for 20 years!
They could be, believe it or not. The RC community and companies are what design and help the military. If it was not for models the military and full scale would not have the technology they have now. Pretty crazy!
So I really like the yellow. But! The orange looks amazing in the air stands out and has great visit ability. The orange might be a little easier to see.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 Thanks for that good info. I still hesitate !!! Why do you have two Raw 420? Backup, rekit? You don’t seem to have motor bogging or rpm drop with RAW 420 like some other seems/complain to have. About Hobbywing store gov mode did you have better results after initial flights on the yellow? It seems that standardization setup process without app works well with that motor, no need to specify 42 poles anywhere. Cheers.
The orange RAW 420s are not mine. I built them for a buddy. Mine is the yellow one from the build series. I didn’t bring mine the day I did the flight comparison and they are identical to mine as far as set up only difference is color. I don’t notice any motor bogging unless I run a low head speed and get hard on the collective. But because I am so used to flying nitro helicopters collective management is very easy for me. I also run 13 1/2° of pitch positive and negative. 3200 RPM is unstoppable on this model. Crazy power! I would not hesitate buying a 420! You will not be disappointed! I don’t run the governor on my personal 420 just flat curves and still don’t have any bogging.
I'm extremely surprised by the massive weight difference. With both helis without their batteries, the Raw 420 is about 285 grams heavier than the RS4. About 28% heavier. Good job Goosky!!
In all honesty I was extremely surprised as well! I had no idea it was that much on the way different. But the 420 fly is very light in the air and you would never feel the difference flying both of them.
420 vs 380 blades though too so that extra weight is not 100% comparable. That extra 30mm * 2 length (22% more surface area) with the blades likely offsets that extra weight to some extent.
Those are two s*xy helicopters. (not in that way, I just mean they're both really epic and good looking helis.) But just one question, do the motors run cool or do they run hot? Also I must say that I like the servo configuration on the goosky better. The servos on the goblin are kinda hanging out a little bit, I feel like they'd be easier to shear off in a crash. The goosky has them tucked closer to its center and has them kinda protected and shielded by that carbon fiber armor.
Yes they are! No, the motors don’t run hot at all. Even after back to back flights. They stay cool. I think you mean the RAW 420 with the tail servo. The RAW 420 has the servo on the inside of the main frame. It is very protected!
@@westhobbiesrc8051 That's true, but the main servos on the Goosky are better protected than the main servos on the Raw 420. It only sucks that goosky decided to have the tail servo hanging out. Not a fatal flaw but a design flaw none the less. But I would still take the goosky over the raw 420 because even though the tail servo isn't as well protected as the raw 420, the main servos are much better protected than the raw 420. This is just my nitpick though, these helis both fly great and I would not mind having either one.
YOu didn't mention some of the key components. Frame carbon thickness. Carbon layers, how many. What weave is the carbon. Stiffness of the carbon. The shafts, you did mention, but how about the berings? Aluminium parts, what grade are they at? Main blade quality, how balanced are the blades? Are they balanced as a set? Stiffness of a complete frame. How available is the spare parts. (also in europe) And i belive, it should have been compared to the Goblin 380. There are a lot of reasons, why the SAB is more expensive, especially as a 420 and not the 380. Just my thoughts. And i have been importing heli's from china, and i know where, they 'cut corners'. What would the RS4 cost, with MKS servos, top of the line motor and ESC, Icon 2, same battery setup & blades as the SAB.
You are right, I did not. You should purchase both models out of pocket and do a full on review with all of that that you mentioned. It will make a great video!
@@glenn4452 at least a two hour video and have to tear both helicopters completely apart back to the kits. I just personally don’t think anything stated above is useful to the every day person.

I don’t know anything more then what was posted, I think it’s a great design in the video and pictures I’ve seen. It looks like a simple layout. Great servo geometry, looks locked in flight. Very excited to see one/fly one in person!

Finally someone got the balls to show the Original and the Clone! Nice video! And thanks...now it's up to the user to choose! They both are awesome!
Obviously Not a clone.
Goosky RS4 is about 285 grams lighter when both helis are without their batteries. That's about 28% lighter. It's a huge amount. Obviously Goosky did not clone the Raw 420.
So I definitely wouldn’t say it is a clone but it is very close. I’m sure the idea was taken from the RAW 420. Both are great models!
@@westhobbiesrc8051 a clone would mean it has interchangeable parts. It's not even the same size. Has different servo layout both on the head and tail. No way it could be considered a clone. If anything it was inspired by the raw 420 but that's it.
@@gmodesike that’s why I said it was not a clone LOL it is definitely inspired by the 420.

How did you get your tail wag out of the 420?
Only had a slight tail wag very slight and after about 20 flights it went away.
what are your thoughts on the 420 vs a blade 480?
I don’t own a Blade fusion 480 (yet) but they are two different class models. The 420 (420mm blade) is smaller by a bit then the Fusion 480 (480mm blade but really a 550 class model) both are great models and I think the fusion 480 is incredible value. But I love my 420!
@@westhobbiesrc8051 Thanks, i think i'll be chasing after a 420 in the future. Your videos really help
I wish You could test it once again but using mini Ikon2 in the goodsky RS4 as you did with the 420. As I understand I can buy the rs4 without the FBL and ESC.
I will soon! I’m going to try a different set of blades on the RS4 soon then a iKon FBL!
This is my 7th kit of there’s I’m building.. in my manuel, it shows SAB towards the servos.. one of very few grey areas in all of the builds I’ve done…
Was your pin on your swash kind of tight in the anti rotation guide compared to others?
Just a little bit tight towards the top but freeze up after a while. I’ve built 12 420s and they are all that way.

Kaun country se ho
Do you have flight time comparison ? Would RS4 fit 26000mAh battery? Thx.
I flew both models at a four-ish minute timer. You could definitely fit a 2400 in the goosky not sure about the 2600. I can try!
Can we swap the landing gear? I wanna try to reduce the weight on raw 420
Not sure, might be able to. You won’t be saving much weight and you don’t notice the weight difference in the air at all.
Hi, does the goosky rs4 main motor run cool like its venom counterpart?
Yes sir! And more power!
Goblin 420 hands down. I both and flew them back to back. The 420 feels way more connected than the Rs4. Maybe an ESC up grade would help the Rs4.
The Goblin 420 definitely flys better. It’s a few things but servo geometry is the biggest reason.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 Hi man, What about thr RS4 venom compared to the 420?
@@philipbrits2984 the RS4 venom is a lot better then the regular RS4. I could make a video on the two. Didn’t know if there would be enough interest in it.
@westhobbiesrc8051 please! This will help me allot. I am currently looking at either a Raw 420c or a rs4 venom combo. 🤔
One other thing. Cost of parts are expensive on RAW 420. I bet you can find servo for the Goosky. Look like wing servos to me.
The good thing is, no matter which version you buy kit or PNP both come with servos. So you don’t need to buy them unless one quits or gets damaged.
I have watched alot of Goblin videos and chose the 420
@@jbenz63 AccuRC sim has been a huge help for me. I also have the S2, it's a nice one! Leaning towards 420 if I can get a deal.

@@westhobbiesrc8051 Good to know that. I fly Jeti radio.
Great comparison. What's the weight difference between them, complete with battery? Goosky parts will surely be cheaper as well I would assume.
Thank you, all weights between the two are in the video. Yes, RS4 parts are definitely cheaper. The 420 is my favorite but the RS4 is hard to beat!

As you have flown both, do you prefer Raw 420 yellow or orange sheme? Especially in flight of course, for visibility.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 😀A Rolls-Royce always weighs a little more but drives so light and softly!
@@carlhaentjens3548 definitely can’t feel the weight difference on both models in the air. They fly identical in terms of feel.
420 vs 380 blades though too so that extra weight is not 100% comparable. That extra 30mm * 2 length (22% more surface area) with the blades likely offsets that extra weight to some extent.
Technically shouldn’t the 470L and RS4 should be a closer comparison
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
