I think I understand what made Zero so terrifying now, specially back in the day, when the game had come out recently Everything in the other levels looks like a coloring book, or a picture book for children. Soft colors, cool music, and cute character design. Everything sort of follows this aesthetic throughout the levels. Then there's the DeDeDe fight which starts to introduce the tone the final boss will get. It all starts as a pretty normal fight against him, up until you defeat his first phase. Then the creepy stuff starts when he starts floating and his stomach rips in two. It's not that graphic, there's no blood or anything, but it's really uncanny when one thought that his possession would be like the one in DL2, where he just goes berserk mode and then Dark Matter lets him go. When I saw that for the first time, I thought he was ded. And then Zero comes around, literally breaking the whole theme that the characters had. It doesn't look like a coloring book boss. It's a freaking eye, one that attacks you with blood, and breaks itself apart so it can still try to kill you. It looks so alien to what was established before in the game, and that whiplash makes it so effective.
This game is so freaking pretty. No harsh pixel out-lines, pastel colors, and interesting textures. It looks just like a dream, or a pretty children's book!!!!!

Everything is low detail as well. Yoshi's Island had 2D Sprites look 3D, that's inarguable. You can say opinions cannot be proven wrong all you want, but they definitely can. There is clearly more detail, colors and technology in yoshis Island. You clearly like a crayon style more, but that has nothing to do with the conversation of graphical fidelity comparison.
Yoshi's Island started the trend with the crayon coloring style of backgrounds, wasn't done too often on the SNES. Like a children's story coloring book.
How anyone got 100% back in the day without help is beyond me. A lot of the little “missions” are not easy to figure out. You did an amazing job though!

It's sad the game has 0 commercials. The reason is this game was released during the last years of the SNES. Another reason is Kirby's Dream Land 3 was the last 3rd party game of the SNES. And how did people find the game you ask? It was in development during sometime in 1996, so it was on a Nintendo Power magazine. The game's sales were so low that it never had a European or PAL version.
Nintendo's focus was on the N64 at that time, yet in Japan the SNES continued to see releases until 2000, and consoles were sold till 2003. Nintendo Power was also heavily focused on the N64 at the time, and like the NES in it's last days, the magazine resorted to less and less coverage of SNES games by this point. I can still remember my NP issues (before a 2012 flash flood of 20 inches of rain wiped them out, over 100 issues) and by the SNES era, the NES was seeing less and less coverage in the magazine as time went along.
I played this via emulator for the first time when I was just starting 7th grade. I wasn’t exactly miserable but middle school felt like a gauntlet where you could never let your guard down, and I longed to just… kinda enjoy the last few years of pseudo childhood. I’d come home, launch snes9x and get lost in this game for a bit, appreciating the pixel art, sound design and soundtrack. It still means a lot to me, especially the music.
This one, like Yoshi's Island I wrote off as being kid's games, by the time both came out, I was already 18 or older. Yeah at that time I wasn't thinking straight in the head for games, but YI I grew to like a few years later. KDL 3 I initially wrote off as being pretty but sluggish, but I grew to finally like this game once I got the Kirby Collection on the Wii, eventually leading me to pick up the SFC versions of KDL 3 and Super Star Deluxe (as a retro game collector, I simply had to have them). While I still find the pacing of KDL 3 a bit on the slower side, it seems like it was meant to be played leisurely due to the things you must do in the game to 100% it. It's just not meant to be a game played at breakneck speeds, the developers wanted the player to take their time, enjoy and explore the Dream Land Kirby lives in. Both this game, and Yoshi's Island simply have no match in the 16 bit era, nothing else really came close to their unique art design, save for maybe one more game on the SFC, Kirby Kira Kira Kids, aka the 16 bit version of Kirby Star Stacker (of Game Boy fame).
See, this game gets something that many future releases didn't quite grasp: kirby is built on metroidvania elements. Puzzle-solving discovery instead of just fight after fight.
This wasn't exactly as he was imagined, his very first game on the Game Boy was pretty much a straight platformer, not a bit of puzzle solving needed. His GB sequel, and his NES game also followed that same formula, and were awesome games.

In the US, yes. 1 last Kirby game was released for the SNES but only in Japan in 1998 called, Kirby Star Stacker.

The Reason why the Japanese Version of the Game still says it's in the year 1997 it's because it originally released on Nintendo Power Services on March 1, 1997 but later released on Normal Cartridge in April 9, 1998

@@theshadowworld2239 Yeah, that one is great too, but took me years to warm up to, didn't like it when it came out. Never rented it to get into it either. Not until emulation did I start to appreciate it, and as a retro game collector, I'll be picking it up soon.
