You're doing everything I did 2 years ago. My trees are all open center about 6ft tall 4ft wide now. I did cheat though, didn’t get bare root so got a jump start with all rooted trees in either 5 gl and even 15 gl containers. I didn’t want to wait forever for fruit. They're all spaced about 4-5 ft apart. I have pretty much the whole Zaiger collection with few exceptions. I purposely didn't get Geo pride, flavorosa since I hear the taste just isn't on par with other Pluots. You may consider getting other plum varieties like Santa Rosa, Inca, Burgandy for cross pollination. Ive found that what DW states on the tags as pollinators doesn't always line up. If your going with emerald drop and pluerry like candy heart and flavor punch, have flavor king around. Flavor king has early blloming and the latest which covered emerald drop and flavor punch. Emerald drop and flavor punch didn't bloom until late april. Nothing was blooming except flavor king still making random blooms here and ther, but started its main bloom all through March. Good luck! If you have any questions feel free to ask.
Congrats on your fruitset, and I really appreciate your input. I set up mini Zaiger farms in the 831 Salinas, Watsonville, & Santa Cruz to continue Floyd's work of breeding pluots and apriums, peacotum, pluerries. I will collect the seeds and germinate. Stay tuned ✌️🍑 Thank you
I'm thinking that something failed right in that hole the soil looked a little bit different and there was bits of bark wood and peat. ✌️🍑 Thanks for stopping by stay tuned for the feeding
I have a 4 in 1 multi graft pluot, but I hear that they underperform, not reaching the true fruit max potential if you focus on keeping it balanced to keep all 4 grafts alive. I hear people let the 2 dominant take over choking out the 2 weaker ones to increase fruit quality. That's why I only recommend grafting only one other variety to a newly established tree. Older trees with vast root systems can handle more than 2 grafts. Thanks for your input ✌️🍑
in my experience flavor queen is the weakest of the zaiger hybrids. it's incredibly sweet with no real plum or apricot flavor. i'd rather grow candy heart or sweet treat
Thanks for your input I'm for sure I'm hitting it with Flavor King I have budwood of one one of the pluerries I forget which one I need to check. Thanks for the support once again enjoy your weekend.
