FINISHING what we started TWO MONTHS AGO

  • Thanksgiving is over, and it’s time to get BACK to the BUILD! We’re a little slow going as we pick up after the holidays, but once we find our groove, we are flying.
    Watch as we work hard to complete our ceiling project and continue to turn this build site into a home!
    ***************************************************************************
    And now a little back story on us, in case you just found us on RUclips. We’re Sara and Ryan. We are your average suburban family, but 10 years ago, we purchased a raw piece of land in the Hood Canal in Washington. We’ve been developing this piece of property slowly, and this year we knew it was time to go all in. So we purchased a log cabin kit home and decided that 2020 would be the year we built a house on our property. We plan to build this cabin (as much as we can) on our own.
    Unfortunately, some unforeseen events in 2020 that were completely out of our hands put a delay on our cabin kit being produced and delivered in the time frame we had originally planned. While we could have just waited it out and pushed back starting on the build of our home, we decided to shift gears and change our course for the time being. We purchased a 30 foot yurt, and will be setting it up as additional living space when we begin to build our cabin.
    In the summer of 2021, we FINALLY moved to the Hood Canal so we could start the build of our future home. While we are building our home, we are living in a camper trailer and the yurt that we built in the summer of 2020. We hope to have our cabin kit home built by the end of 2023. Just my husband and I are building the house. We get help here and there from friends along the way and we do plan to get help on the roof but other than that we are doing it all on our own.
    Follow along with us as we build our dream in the Hood Canal.

    I think when you are totally finished with your build, you should have a series of “bloopers” videos! That would be so fun for your loyal followers!

    So excited for you.
    I kept hearing Ryan saying " move in "
    So happy to hear those words.
    I know at this point you just want to be done.
    As you have experienced we are not always in control and run into things that require us to reroute and come back later to that project.
    But as Sarah said anything that gets done brings the finish line one step closer.
    I know we'll probably see a few more videos of 2023 footage
    But still want to wish you the best of success, good health, and happiness in 2024

    Good morning lovely people!!
    I understand the want to move in however wouldn’t it be better to hold off until you have all the floors completed and your loft area complete. I know how hard it is to continue on with the build once you move in. And you have two kiddies as well!!
    Please just a little more patience!! You will be thankful for the wait!
    Oh by the way….. Happy New Year! Hope 2024 is a great year!!

      We are trying to hold off for as long as we can. We would really like to at least get the kids moved into their bedrooms, then Sara and I are going to move into the Yurt for a few months while we get the floor and finish work done.
      We're getting there!

    • @Diwondermum
      @Diwondermum 8 месяцев назад +1

      You are definitely getting there and with style and class!!!
      Perhaps if that’s your goal then maybe do the floors in the kids bedrooms next and finish those two rooms!! I understand the challenge believe me but it will definitely be worth the issues in the long run!! Bravo!!

    Why not finish the boards on the saw horses and then transfer them to the scaffolding to dry freeing up the saw horses to knock out more boards at one time?

    • @OneFootOfftheGrid
      @OneFootOfftheGrid  8 месяцев назад

      That is actually a pretty good idea. Usually we prepped the amount of material we could put up in 1-2 days, so it wasn't too big of a deal, but there were times that having another 5-10 would have been really handy.
      I'll be ready for that tip when we build our next house. LOL

    It’s bringing me so much joy to see your cabin coming together. Are you putting any access points in the half wall to allow you to use that void for storage as well? Seems like a great spot to keep winter vs summer clothes or other things you need to access periodically.

    • @OneFootOfftheGrid
      @OneFootOfftheGrid  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yes! On the one side we will have an access door so we can crawl all the way back there. Plus, we are thinking of putting a hinged shelf there for top access as well. On the other side, the plan is to put in some DEEP built in drawers. We aren't going to have a closet up there so we need all the storage we can get. LOL

    I noticed you have left exposed insulattion behind the knee wall are you going to ship lap it or leave it exsposed

    • @OneFootOfftheGrid
      @OneFootOfftheGrid  8 месяцев назад +1

      Since it will be covered by that half wall, we are just leaving it exposed. We are actually going to put a top shelf that connects the half wall and the ceiling for extra storage.

    why don't you coat the boards when they are up

    • @curiouscat3384

      1000 times easier than brushing and sanding that high ceiling with high angle. I think they did do some walls after installation.

    How come you didn't put the speakers inline with the lights? Would've looked neater in a way 😉
    I know your vids are a few weeks behind, but Happy New Year both 🥳🎉🍻🥂😁

    • @OneFootOfftheGrid
      @OneFootOfftheGrid  8 месяцев назад

      We figured for sound quality we wanted the speakers to be a little lower. If they were up at the light level, I thought the sound might get a bit lost. No data to back this up, just a gut feeling. Happy New Year to you as well.
