The reason the home button doesn't take you immediately Home is because it allows people that use the app drawer more to quickly use it taking away steps. Those who mainly use shortcuts/homescreens can get right back there immediately with one tap of the home button if they launched the app from there. The app drawer being custom is more accessible for those coming from something like an iPhone. I think they will feel at home with the app drawer as it could actually be used as the homescreen.
@IgotMagiic It is 4MP. HTC however have used clever marketing to brand it as "ultra pixel" in order point out that it has 2 times larger pixels than that found in conventional smartphone cameras.
I have seen pocketnow's comparisons between the One, Droid DNA, and Lumia 920. Versus the DNA, the verdict was the One was a definite camera improvement. Versus the Lumia 920, Michael said that they both stand out from the typical smartphone, and both have their own advantages; but in the end the consumer will be more than happy with the results from either. I agree the Ultrapixel camera was over-hyped, but it's certainly nothing to scoff at.
I never said it wasn't Pentile. I said that AMOLED doesn't need a plus to be RGB, and that the GS4 used a new pixel arrangement. It's not always about whether it's RGB or Pentile, but how the subpixels are arranged. Have you seen the screen comparison between the GS4 and Xperia Z under a microscope? The only difference is in the color, because they were focusing on white text and AMOLED naturally can't produce whites very well compared to LCD. Sharpness is still the same.
I can't wait to get my hands on this puppy! I've been waiting for this upgrade for a long time and I cannot wait!!! HTC is hands down the best in looks, quality, some specs, and feel! Love this so much can't wait!
The reason why I'm getting the GS 4 is because of all the features it has all the voice commands s voice and those little extra features u can do wich in my opinion defines a smartphone
Seen several comments indicating "you should" slow down, or calm down. My opinion is that there are a lot of ppl out there that enjoy and appreciate what a lot of you reviewers provide.. A service that many of us base our decisions on. That being said, remember you are providing a service to many who depend on you. So take your time, help us understand, but you can't do that if your talking a thousands miles a min. I want to hear, and understand. so pls make it easy, slow down
Just because it doesn't have a plus doesn't mean it is Pentile. The display on the Note II is RGB, but it's still just AMOLED. The GS4 doesn't have the same pixel arrangement as the GS3, they used a new diamond shaped sub-pixel arrangement if I remember correctly. It was compared to the Xperia Z in close up photos, and I couldn't really tell the difference in sharpness, though the white text looked better on the Xperia Z of course because LCD's produce better whites than AMOLED naturally.
I think the "quirks" with the icon shortcuts is basically they're giving you 2 or 3 desktops in all. For example you have 3 click widgets, one in the flipseed, 2nd in the launcher which can be used kind of like an iPhone desktop/launcher & third, the original android desktop. I prefer the way the launcher is set up because most of the time I'm on my desktop it's for the widgets & usually have to jump back into my launcher, and with flipseed I might stay there often also if I like it.well thought
You have syncmate, isyncr and other applications for your iTunes syncing capabilities! I'm using the HTC one right now. And bloody hell. It's pretty amazing.
Yep. But not straight away. Weeks (probably months) later. Not just HTC, though; all non-stock Android phones. If you want the latest updates, best thing is to go with a Nexus device :)!
my HTC one just arrived a few hours ago and it's definitely a top tier if not THE top device on the market right now, everything is perfect, best device i've had.
It only has 300 more Mah, in addition most of its gestures require the front facing camera to be on at all time, also they over clocked the 600 to 1.9GHz. It will probably have the same as the one.
I currently have an HTC Desire HD and the battery lasts only about 3.5 hours with non-stop video playback... the HTC One will seem amazing haha I'm so used to constantly charging and rationing my battery...
With all the good reviews the camera is getting, it is a fact. Granted, when a lot of cropping and editing is done the photos lose their sharpness, but HTC bet on that the majority of consumers mainly post their photos to social networks, which they do, and in that case the HTC One performs exceptionally. The HTC One is among the best on the market right now, that's a fact.
You can change between the front and the back camera by sliding your finger over the camera interface. You need to know hTC sense 5 more because you are professional reviewer.
I think this phone is amazing.. 10-12 hours battery life is good imo, also you can can buy juice packs. If you need an Sd card you can by micro usb card adapters.
Dear Aaron, can you also test the wifi hotspot speed? for example, use the HTC ONE as a wifi hotspot, and link it up with a laptop, use the laptop to see the speed its getting. Do it for both H+ and 4G
Love this phone, and definitely will get one as as they are available in US. Any word on to whether they will be available with Verizon ? If not will switch networks.
From sources like Phone Dog and Techno Buffalo, yeah. In the very video you're commenting on, Aaron says it's an incredible camera that he's incredible impressed with. Techno Buffalo says it's among the best on the market right now. Pocket Now has done comparisons as well, and the One holds its own and establishes itself very well. That's 3 reputable tech sites giving the camera very good reviews, how can you prove me wrong?
what is htc doing about the black bar with 3 dots? as a htc one x owner i was pretty happy when this was finally solved, and it seems pretty stupid that they would let it come up again?
To all those who are wondering s4 or htc one: I am getting this over the s4 mainly because the speakers are way better. The s4 has a 5 inch screen which is too big for my hands also. S4 has more gimmicks like air view and all that smart stuff which are pretty cool, but me personally? I wouldn't use them. I am trying to not be biased I also had a tough time deciding between the two but I chose the htc one.
@phonedog hey Aaron, I have a question. My main use of camera is to take pictures of white board and slides, while in class. in those pics, I mostly rely on zoom performance so later i can read whats written on the board. how this camera scales when zooming 20 feet? thanks
True, but the AMOLED display is not going to help much when you factor in all the other physical demands on that battery the the S4 will have, despite the software optimization. In addition to the AMOLED display a draw back is that it isn't AMOLED PLUS, its simply AMOLED, which means its a pentile display, which is sacrificing some quality over the SLCD, which has shown with all pentile phones including the HTC One S, just so show im not a fanboy.
Finally! An android device that actually can compete with the iPhone aesthetically. Its one of the reasons, why I don't feel compelled to switch to android, because I personally think none look particularly nice. But this phone is truly the best of both worlds, a powerhouse of a phone that still looks and feels high end
But the AMOLED display gives you opportunity to save a lot of battery life. Battery life varies with software optimization as well, which Samsung excels in.
I like that Zoe feature. I do take a lot of pictures when I hang out. This'll be cool. And I'm a media buff. I mean I do use my headphones every now and then, but I'd love to be able to hear my phone in a loud area. Can't wait!! Is it June yet? I think I see the phone that I'm upgrading too. On a side note, it was stated that only AT&T will be getting the 64GB variant. I hope that changes. =.(
It's really not anymore pixels or less its just what the pixels are a Megappixel camera has larger pixels than a Ultrapixel camera so the Ultrapixel camera can take sharper more HD pictures especially in low light areas
so uhm... im trying to decide on whether to get the GS4 or the One. can anyone that's NOT biased to either of these please shed some light on which would be the more preferable pick?
Aron, your instantwin page doesn't seem to let me log in to my account using Mozilla Firefox. I'll try Internet Explorer, but we mentioned the same problem a few months ago.
Hey Aaron, I just got the HTC One 4 days ago and on the second day my menu and back capacitive buttons didn't seem to respond. I was using the phone with a screen protector so I took it off but the buttons still didn't seem to work. The problem lasted for about a minute and then the buttons worked again but it occurs about once a day. It's getting really annoying and I planning to send it in for repair. I'm just wondering are you getting the same problems with your device?
I am in pretty much the same position as you, I think I will hold off until at least the end of the year to make another smartphone purchase. By then there are sure to be some killer phones!
Can the three menu buttons at the bottom of apps be remapped to another physical button? This was a issue on the one x that was resolved but now there is one less button
I wasn't sure either about Zoe so I searched. Found this Quote from another review "HTC has also developed a new "Zoe" shooting mode, which enables you to capture multiple shots along with a short video clip."
There's some confusion about that. It's called a 4 Ultrapixel camera because HTC doesn't want to the consumer to know the megapixel count, since the mass majority of the consumer will automatically think it's inferior to other cameras with 8 or 13 MP, but in reality it is a 4 MP camera. Megapixels is a term used to refer to the *number* of pixels in the image, while Ultrapixels is the term HTC uses for the *size* of the pixels. So technically, it's a 4 MP camera that uses Ultrapixels.
I find that battery life doesn't concern me anymore. I have a 6600 mAh battery bank with me and I charge my phone a little bit while eating dinner to get through the day because the battery on the droid DNA isn't amazing with heavy use.
Ahh I'm totally saving up for this! I currently have a Samsung galaxy ace and get about 6-8 hours battery life just through keeping it in sleep mode! If I play a game, the battery is drained in about 20-30 minutes and its really laggy and doesn't even save my contacts properly. Like it saves them, but they don't show up in my contacts list -_-
true but its still pentile, diamond or square doesn't change that fact. Anything beyond 260ppi in an oled display will always be pentile unless there is a breakthrough in the screen or battery tech.
Hello there how is the gps? Does it have an instant and steady lock? Because Maybe i want to upgrade from my samsung galaxy s3 but i need a very good gps navigation... Could you please do a good test...
The reason the home button doesn't take you immediately Home is because it allows people that use the app drawer more to quickly use it taking away steps. The app drawer being custom is more accessible for those coming from something like an iPhone. I think they will feel at home with the app drawer as it could actually be used as the homescreen.
you can slide from right to left to change from the back to the front camera
What I like about your reviews Aaron in that you cater to the mainstream. That is the most important thing that most reviewers seem to forget.
@IgotMagiic
It is 4MP. HTC however have used clever marketing to brand it as "ultra pixel" in order point out that it has 2 times larger pixels than that found in conventional smartphone cameras.

basically, Zoe is a thing on the htc one where you can put BOTH images and short videos and it will come out as a slideshow of both together
Zoe is a short video added to your still. What you call here Zoe is actually another feature called Video Highlight.
Seen several comments indicating "you should" slow down, or calm down. My opinion is that there are a lot of ppl out there that enjoy and appreciate what a lot of you reviewers provide.. I so love your videos. Precise, clean & unbiased. I'm staying tuned for part 3 of this awesome device.
Use Juice Defender for battery, works great you get a few days out of the phone. Keeps things to a minimum when you're not using the phone.

they're videos. I'm not sure about the file format on the phone. I've read that once they're uploaded to a social network they become mp4 files
It's not the original pentile matrix as the GS3. It is some new thing called Diamond pentile which has diamond subpixels.
Dude! You look amazing! Congrats on all the weight loss in the last 2 years! (compared to how you looked in the review of the HTC Sensation)
It only has 300 more Mah, in addition most of its gestures require the front facing camera to be on at all time, also they over clocked the 600 to 1.9GHz. It will probably have the same as the one.
I love my HTC One X+ and will love it even more when HTC releases Sense 5 for it. Keep up the good work HTC!!!
After Galaxy S, Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S3 I ordered HTC ONE. Looks, feel and works amazing.
I currently have an HTC Desire HD and the battery lasts only about 3.5 hours with non-stop video playback... the HTC One will seem amazing haha I'm so used to constantly charging and rationing my battery...

Ordered mine from amazon . Replacing my htc one x that got damaged screen true getting wet . Cant wait for my new one . Should be here in 2 day's
Impresses with HTC one. This will be smartphone to beat in 2013. Trading in my galaxy S2 for this as soon as it comes to Canada!

you can change the back button to function as the menu with a long press right? i hate seeing that much screen wasted just for the menu dots.
Bro..... Aaron Baker... PhoneDog.... freaking HTC One... This was the golden days of smartphone when everyone was excited about it.
Dear Aaron, can you also test the wifi hotspot speed? for example, use the HTC ONE as a wifi hotspot, and link it up with a laptop, use the laptop to see the speed its getting. Do it for both H+ and 4G
just go to your itunes library copy the music and paste it to the phone or use on of the apps to do it simple
Trying to decide between HTC One, Galaxy Note 3 and the LG G2. I currently have the HTC Rezound and loved it.
Love this phone, and definitely will get one as as they are available in US. Any word on to whether they will be available with Verizon ? If not will switch networks.
Awesome review as always. Does the UI have a dark theme? Or is it white only?
From sources like Phone Dog and Techno Buffalo, yeah. In the very video you're commenting on, Aaron says it's an incredible camera that he's incredible impressed with. what is htc doing about the black bar with 3 dots? as a htc one x owner i was pretty happy when this was finally solved, and it seems pretty stupid that they would let it come up again?
I don't need blink feed, but wish I had those speakers on my One X
you for got
plastic vs aluminum
touch wiz vs sense
dumb speaker design vs speakers on the front that are actually awesome
Quadrant test was the HTC one which was on top?
To all those who are wondering s4 or htc one: I am getting this over the s4 mainly because the speakers are way better. The s4 has a 5 inch screen which is too big for my hands also. If you were to put the "ultrapixels" in terms of megapixels, where would it be? Is it better or the same as the 13MP on S4?
I love this phone so much, i just wish that this is a nexus series, i hate didn't get the latest update from Google!
If a newer version of Android comes out, Does the HTC One get that latest version??
@phonedog
hey Aaron, I have a question.
My main use of camera is to take pictures of white board and slides, while in class.
in those pics, I mostly rely on zoom performance so later i can read whats written on the board. how this camera scales when zooming 20 feet?
thanks
I'm not quite sure of that. There will definitely be less detail in the pictures taken by HTC's 4MP "UltraPixel" camera.
I don't have one obviously, but my guess is like any other android phone. On my DNA it is bottom volume button + power button
Finally! An android device that actually can compete with the iPhone aesthetically. Its one of the reasons, why I don't feel compelled to switch to android, because I personally think none look particularly nice. But this phone is truly the best of both worlds, a powerhouse of a phone that still looks and feels high end
I would like to know if the phone gets hot when you are using it for awhile.
Just wondering can you separate the zoe shot taken on the same day
But the AMOLED display gives you opportunity to save a lot of battery life. Battery life varies with software optimization as well, which Samsung excels in.
The comparisons and sample shots of the One all over the Internet?
you can, press and hold the Power button and press the home button
they didn't use aluminium as extensively as the htc one on the iphone devices up to the iphone 4

Do u use a protector? Silicone or plastic? Which is more accurate for this phone?
Aaron you should get the HTC battery bar and than you can definitely get threw the day and even longer check it out
Hey Aaron, I just got the HTC One 4 days ago and on the second day my menu and back capacitive buttons didn't seem to respond. When do the HTC One come out?
are u going to do a review for the US version of this phone,if so please do the tmobile version
@aaron: how do get a screenshot? is it still the same POWER-Button + HOME-Button thing?
I'm not sold on the camera and won't be until I get my hands on it and compare it to the S4's camera.
Should I upgrade to this from my Galaxy S3? I'm really considering selling my S3 for this.
So are the Zoes a GIF or...?
Should I get this I just got an iPhone 4S couple months ago really want this with my upgrade should I go for it ???
So would u say I should get this over the S4?
Can the three menu buttons at the bottom of apps be remapped to another physical button? This was a issue on the one x that was resolved but now there is one less button
amazing phone and very good review but i have a question did he make a video call on 3g or not
Purchased mines today from Sprint and I love it.
I wasn't sure either about Zoe so I searched. Found this
Quote from another review "HTC has also developed a new "Zoe" shooting mode, which enables you to capture multiple shots along with a short video clip."
Is there anyway that you can take saved apps/ pictures... From an sd card and put them onto the phone
So the htc one won't be coming to verizon?

how can you know? no offence, but how can you know?...

Since when is a battery lasting 10-12 hours a bad thing? I remember just 2 years ago my Palm Pre would last 5-6 hours max
My thing is what happens when the phone eventually freeZes up and u cant remove the battery to reboot?.
so is this phone going to be available
on verizon?
please review about the battery life when you turn 3G, wifi on all day.
I've read that it won't lose details, but I haven't used it yet to confirm it.
i like the evo 4g as well it has been an awesome phone and still is my wife is going to get the htc one on the 1st and i wish i could as well
why there's always the three vertical dots in the bottom of any app ?
Hello there how is the gps?
Does it have an instant and steady lock?
Because Maybe i want to upgrade from my samsung galaxy s3 but i need a very good gps navigation...
Could you please do a good test...
Att is also getting the 32 gb variant. Getting it the day it comes out!!!! (;
I don't think battery will be worse with LTE since it uses Qualcomm chips which have LTE integrated in.
So what is Zoe? A slideshow of still images?
When is it coming to SouthAmerica? Argentina
How do you take a screen shot on this phone?
next month they are now saying. HTC has doubled up on their production of the one in may and is increasing into june.
black one or sliver?
