to summarize... bullet goes through soft level 3a and penetrates 12.5" in gel. bullet goes through bare gel and penetrates 15.5" in gel. So, Level 3a panel = 3" of gel. Meanwhile, claims are out there that skin = 4" of gel. Who knew skin was so good at reducing penetration in gel?...better than Level 3a armor? hmmm....

Matt I went back and checked the Speer Gold Dot and sure enough it was 6 pedal not the 4 pedal I thought. I still have quite a bit of it. Glad I paid less than a buck a round. Wasn’t impressed with it The VF is great. I have some of it and use it and the HP round from VGO. Love the video!
Last time i bought from them it took almost 6 months to get the ammo. If thats the best a company can do ill shop elsewhere. Have you reviewed the Vanguard Outfitters GPM? I searched for a review of it and nothing is popping up for your channel.

I could. But most of the 15 second attention span people won't bother to understand that pistol wounding (crushing and tearing direct path) is different then longer pointy rounds like 5.7 and 5.56..

What's your gut telling you? Velocity aside (which I'm not expecting anything amazing from that, I already found out through my research that the Hornady FTX bullet 40 grain will only be traveling 1810 FPS), do you expect this to be an actual excellent self defense round round that will give excellent penetration or do you think it will be like all the others?@@BuffRANGE

I'd love to mess with 7.5 FK. Not sure to what end I could test that hasn't been done already, but depending on bullet selection might be an easy armor win over 44 mag.
So is it worth transitioning from BDF'S to vampire fangs or just keep buying BDF'S. Happy with what I have and when I need to get more to cycle them out I would like to get the more reliable rounds.
@@BuffRANGE Funnily enough the pistol, I have the acss reticle on my 5.7 and it really has improved my ability to get good shot placement even though I semi frequently go shooting and at ranges that only support 25 yard pistol shooting max. Just curious if the downside to using BDF/VF being a loss in accuracy compared to commercial loads and would this be pronounced enough to hinder shooting past 25 yards like going 50-100. Its just a thought I have, I know I should go to an outdoor range and find out for myself Just been putting it off.
@@eriknilsen3350 I tested the LC at 100 yards awhile back with some factory loads and it's accuracy was OK. 3-4 MOA IIRC. If I have the chance I'll have to see what I can put together.
The theory of “hydrostatic shock” is kind of a myth. These rounds are over 2000 fps and in theory the temporary cavity they make could impart extra permanent wounding. My sample size is only 100 rounds. I’ve never had a feeding issue with this copper solid design

Having said that, I don't really see it gel, but I have seen very expansive holes in watermelons that don't make sense in terms of their width. Much wider than the cavitation seen in gel.

I know the rounds are completely different, but 5.7 chambered handguns are marketed as "defensive handguns," so I think it would be informative to compare the wound channels of Vampire Fang and other good 5.7 rounds to some tried and proven 9mm defensive loads.
Is it out yet? It sounds very capable and based on the Hercules and Ares (Now Hercules Extreme I think) it will be a good plate, but I can't say for 100% until I test it.
VBR over in Belgium I think was first to bring a design like this to market. The brass I think is more brittle and more easily facilitates the segments breaking off. IT seems this copper doesn't, or the stems have been removed in favor of keeping the bullet in one piece.

The only issue I’ve had with the Vanguard rounds is the bullet comes out of the neck occasionally when unloading and cycling a round out then into the camber. Makes me wonder if I could crimp the necks myself to help them stay together better.
You are the only other person ive seen have this issue i thought i did something wrong when storing my ammo or somrthing but half of one of my boxes of bdf did this. No issues with the gpm so far but atleast they sent me a new box and a box of ss197 to make up for the issue. New box was fine
Hmm, I like the grooves on these vs the previous drive banded variety. The bearing surface is already low enough that using drive band tech is unnecessary. If you could find out whether VO is now using this bullet config in their loading or not would be really helpful. It might push me over the edge to finally getting a 5.7 handgun.
These were a version of projectile we had remaining from a special order who wanted sharp tips. We were seeing how the feedback was to determine if we might offer them on a regular basis.

The Ruger is F5. I don't recommend them because their customer service seems non existent. They sent me the kit years ago and the mag release was too big to fit he frame. They said they were processing some dimension changes, and even months/years after that exchange have still failed to acknowledge trying to replace it. Ohh well :|. You could always but a PSA Rock mag and the Excess +7..

Case fill vs powder efficiency, I tend to run out of room. I think I've gotten 28gr stuff to 3700 fps from my 22". Maybe I try some H335. I have chucked SS198 at 4400+ in 22CM with a 18" barrel :O

Vanguard is an excellent company to do business with, great product, service and some wonderful communications from them. I would only buy Vanguard or Elite Ammunition if you need the best defensive rounds. 7.0 grains is a lot of powder, anyone know what brand they’re using. 4.7 grains is considered maximum for True Blue powder. Hi. We use a variety of powders overall but generally they are OEM from the powder manufacturers like St. Marks. Our primary powder is OEM and does not have a direct retail shelf equal. We do use some shelf powders like power pistol in some loads.
I bought some a couple years ago and I just recently tried to buy some couple months ago and no response nothing he won’t return ur call or you can’t buy them straight off website

One easy reason is I've validated those designs and have completed reviews on them at one point in time. The Ruger LC and Rock are on going evaluations so I tend to use them whenever. I also somewhat would rather give limelight to companies who are doing more to support this caliber :D

Personally I would use them interchangeably. I see nothing of advantage of the VF over the BDF. They both seem to perform very similar.

I would like to see this compared to 9mm in gell.
The wounding mechanism of a 9mm round is completely different depending on the bullet. Which 9mm load? and what are you looking for comparison wise?

5.7 supers are like 130-134db. 9mm suppressed supers are around the same typically.

Yoo buffman is there a reason your not shooting with the FN anymore?
One easy reason is I've validated those designs and have completed reviews on them at one point in time. The Ruger LC and Rock are on going evaluations so I tend to use them whenever. I also somewhat would rather give limelight to companies who are doing more to support this caliber :D
