This guy is the real deal. From the UK and knows what he's doing. No stupid music. So shouting like these stupid American videos. I wish youtube had a UK only option. Keep up the amazing work mate!
I just can’t fathom how much rust is on English cars. In Australia, there’s an old adage of “never buy an English car”. Some people bring them over as private imports, but I truely understand now why there is a premium for locally delivered vehicles.
One of the best Salvage channels on YT IMO... Thanks for sharing mate! I bet the Crankshaft bearings are seized and now part of the crankshaft itself! Maybe oil depravation!
That looked about as simple as working on the space shuttle!! It is amazes me how you remember where everything fits back together! You clearly have a very patient and relaxed personality that doesn't get hassled by such a daunting task - amused by your comment at the end "it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be!" Looking forward to the next installment👍
Awesome work Dean, loved that coolant gush! Complicated engine extraction has got me hooked, really hoping it all goes back well and the fix doesn't break the bank
If you're not following a guide, you make your own as you go along. Take pics, write down, film, anything so you can refer back to later. Do it in stages and box up bits labelled for that stage.
Blimey what a beast that engine is, I don't know how you remember where everything goes, good job Dean, really enjoyed the content, looking forward to the next one, well done.
I love how methodical you are at just pulling an f-ing R8 engine lol. This is the real deal how you work on cars and excellent way to show ppl your talent. Well done Dean. Hats off to you.
Great content again been watching your posts for about a year now really enjoy how you plan ahead of your projects, good luck with this latest venture .
Great video with good flow and editing.\ Top work!! I own a mk1 TT 225 quattro , and have recently rebuilt the gearbox, due to 1-2nd selector fork snapping off. Once I got the gearbox out there was so so many other issues that needed fixing. Im proud to say I did all the work myself, and its all back together and on the road again. So yeah, I sympathise with you working on your R8....Massive learning curve attempting my TT's repairs. All the best from Australia. : )
Really enjoyed that... Absolutely no clue about mechanics but just a really informative video..Can't believe how complex it is... . Looking forward to getting an idea of what's wrong with it .. Thanks..
You're a brave man to tackle the strip down of that engine on your own! An Audi V8 4.2 strip down is really a team effort, good luck...on to the next vid....
Well done you can tell he knows his stuff labels and photos will help on the rebuild after Hes fixed it. I'm looking forward to the next video when taking an engine out some people disconnect all the wires from the engine but through experience you soon work out to leave the wiring on the engine and disconnect the loom instead. Will you be changing the clutch ?
This is a real automotive adventure Dean. My head is fried just watching you strip all the wiring and ancillary parts. You must have a great memory. Looking forward to the next episode 😳👍😎
This is bravery beyond any home mechanic I have ever seen! Dean…how you will get it back together again will be fascinating. How do you store all the bolts and remember which goes where?? I would have just scrapped the car!! 😬😬😀😀😀😀
I recently stripped out a small VW up and that was too much for me. Commend you for what you did here on a bigger car. Can feel for you having experienced doing this myself
Haven’t got a clue how you remember where everything goes. I know most engines all work on the same principle but how you remember were it all goes is beyond me. Looking forward to all the future videos. Good work Dean👍👍
Seeing you use a mate to help take the engine cover off just shows up that you're doing this stuff on your own: incredible knowledge and expertise- especially considering the car is "high tech". Kudos.
......where do you start?!? I'm getting stressed just watching with the thought of trying to remember how it all goes back together. Fair play mate, great content and great fun to watch.
Your videos really helped me in my engine removal, I wanted to ask what’s the best way to get ELSA for my RS4 B8. Your spark plug looks extremely similar to mine from the rs4 where after removing the head I found a snapped intake valve. I’m currently expecting my forged closed block to arrive and thus ELSA would be helpful in reassembling all the ancillaries correctly along with torque specs. I have found sellers selling the software on aliexpress but they are not able to confirm if my car is included. Any advice will be appreciated 🙏
Brilliant you are. Your mechanical methodology is a fair duel for your sensational personality, video direction and editing. To warrant this exceptional effort, what did this R8 cost?
I always driving French cars and they where complicatid so i whas told by the mechanics, but now i see the Audi and that is not always easy to ! But you gut the engine out and rather fast i must say, now the rebuild can start....Nice video as always !!!!
Just seen an Audi v10 strip down that looked similar on the spark plug. Engine was totally destroyed, rod let go and piston smashed to bits, not many parts salvageable, I really hope yours isn’t the same, all the best Dean
Great video 👍 looks more straightforward removing that then the Rs4 engine. My biggest problem would be remembering how all the wiring harness goes on and fed round the engine Can’t wait to see it stripped and what’s up.
Just curious was the oil sensor functioning correctly? Wonder if it's been a combination of oil cooler leaking and previous owner not checking it hence its just ran too low and then lost pressure. If the oil sensor was faulty which is common on these
Hi Dean, great video. I would choose option 4 best outcome for the money £10,000 completed and you know the engine is good 👍 👍👍a new engine will probably end up being £20,000 after all extras !
Hats off man. Nerves of a steel. Maybe i could manage to remove the engine somehow but i could have never ever put this thing together again, i am sure of that.
I love your positivity and knowledge ...I couldn't even imagine stripping and removing an engine from a modern day car.....the last one I did was a 1300 sport mk 2 escort which took about 2 hrs ...and there was 6 things linked to the body not 66! Keep up the great work and vlogs. G
Not really your main concern at the moment but check those rear wheel bearings after rolling back with no drive shafts fitted, have known bearing to collapse when there is no driveshaft fitted
Great video Dean. I bet the original owner is glad they dodged the bullet on this one, unless they knew and that's why they sold it hoping it would last long enough to do the inspection, I sold my Slk to we buy any car and they knocked £800 off the valuation because of stone chips and a few scratches
Top job on getting the engine out. Defford looks easier than the RS4 did. Maybe you just made it look easy 👍🏻 With all the extra followers from you're getting from ever increasing better content. It would be good to show how you made sure there was no gas in the aircon before undoing the banjos and releasing it all to atmosphere. Don't want to upset the eco warriors or get a fine. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Amazing. Apart from wondering how it can be economical to manufacture something so complicated, I’d like to know your tips to remember where everything goes, please.
God knows what you cut but those orange wires are not likely to be part of the AW Ghost set up. The thing wires inline to the CAN so no additional wires needed. Normally wrapped up in the loom.
This guy is the real deal. From the UK and knows what he's doing. No stupid music. So shouting like these stupid American videos. I wish youtube had a UK only option. Keep up the amazing work mate!
Plenty of non-shouty American videos :P I recommend Watch Wes Work!
Stupid music?
You mean you don't like RUclips provisioned dubstep....
youtube.com/@vehcor no shouting great US channel
Love the no music videos, just not needed ads nothing to the content.
He (Dean) did work at a VW/Audi dealership for many years as a mechanic from what I know, so should know what he's doing 😂 for the most part.
Well done mate. Love your honest approach to your content. No milking it or dragging it out. Not afraid to say not sure or admit a mistake.
From my own accident repair background, you are a very brave man taking this on, absolutely fair play to you, much respect mate.
Love the content best car rebuilder on RUclips
+1 to that 👍🏻
Definitely the best content on my subscriber list.
Besides Salvage Rebuilds UK definitely!
My favorite is Mat atm
Entertaining....but would you put your daughter/son in it? I wouldn't
Love the honesty Dean, it always feels like we are being taken on the journey with you. Thanks 👍
Fair play to u dean for remembering where everything goes good luck with it👍
Jeeez, total respect to you, I'd be stressing big time! Great series, love it...
Those 2 pipes and where they sit in the oil cooler is a common problem for leaking in the V8’s, I had to replace them all when I owned one
I have nothing but respect for you. The fact that you can remember where everything goes is mind boggling. You can can't you? ;) Keep it up!
Outstanding knowledge. These videos are raw, no silly graphics or over the top music. Brilliant content, keep going!
Love it, a you tuber who actually knows what he’s doing and uses the correct terminology. Big fan of dean’s channel. Hope it blows up for you dude
You make it look easy and take it all in your stride.
Keep up the good content.
Best car channel on RUclips by far
Amazing work, you're braver than i am, I getting anxious just watching all those bolts and wires! Can't wait to see the finished work
That looked about as simple as working on the space shuttle!! It is amazes me how you remember where everything fits back together! Awesome work Dean, loved that coolant gush! Complicated engine extraction has got me hooked, really hoping it all goes back well and the fix doesn't break the bank
Great stuff Dean! I know you’re a technician but how the hell do you remember how it all goes back together?
Exactly! I cannot even begin to imagine what that’s going to like rerouting everything the correct way.
Really like this video, some great content over the year! Thank you!
Really like the mix of time lapse and "normal" recording Dean, doing a great job.
Very entertaining for the tech minded amongst us. Well done fella, keep it up!😊
mind blowing..you got to be really talented to even attempt something like that...never mind the engine rebuild..hats off to ya dean
I’ve really enjoyed there three episodes, I’m impressed by your calm and methodical approach, I’d be having a panic attack every three seconds!
I’m not really that into cars, but I stumbled into your videos last night and somehow watched 8 in a row and now I’m hooked!
Welcome aboard! 😁
Hi is this the Audi you have already or another one? Thanks
Great video with good flow and editing.\

when taking an engine out some people disconnect all the wires from the engine but through experience you soon work out to leave the wiring on the engine and disconnect the loom instead.
Will you be changing the clutch ?
Since the engine is in the back is it the bonnet or the boot lid? 12:02
"Ve must design ein screw for to prevent Fritz from removing his ECU"
"But Hans, vhy"
"Because ve are ze chermans"
Just wow. No way on this earth I could do that, stress levels would be through the roof. Well done love the posts, everyone is superb
Nice one Dean looking forward to seeing the next video to see what caused it 👍
This is a real automotive adventure Dean. My head is fried just watching you strip all the wiring and ancillary parts. You must have a great memory. Looking forward to the next episode 😳👍😎
Fantastic content again Dean, your a brave man for sure, cant wait for the next video 👍👍👍
That is just class Dean ! I'm absolutely loving this project - Can't wait for the stripping of the engine !!
This is bravery beyond any home mechanic I have ever seen! Dean…how you will get it back together again will be fascinating. How do you store all the bolts and remember which goes where?? I would have just scrapped the car!! 😬😬😀😀😀😀
Mate you are an absolute genius, a legend at your craft. Massive respect sir 👏👏👏
I recently stripped out a small VW up and that was too much for me. Commend you for what you did here on a bigger car. Can feel for you having experienced doing this myself
What a massive job! Well done, and thanks for sharing
Did you have to get the air con de-gassed?
Haven’t got a clue how you remember where everything goes. I know most engines all work on the same principle but how you remember were it all goes is beyond me. Looking forward to all the future videos. Good work Dean👍👍
My go to channel everytme so talented nothing seems to phase you I have a little wee dribble when ever a new video comes on😂
Awesome work! My own personal anxiety when I see all those pipes and looms is real!!! 😂
Seeing you use a mate to help take the engine cover off just shows up that you're doing this stuff on your own: incredible knowledge and expertise- especially considering the car is "high tech". Kudos.
Thanks
Absolutely brilliant, knowing where it all goes back is a skill above all others, well done dean👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
......where do you start?!?
I'm getting stressed just watching with the thought of trying to remember how it all goes back together.
Fair play mate, great content and great fun to watch.
Top work, so admire your work ethic, look forward to next one. 👍👍👍👍

So much stuff crammed into such a small space. This is what happens with CAD design ;) Great work Dean, brave man!
Just seen an Audi v10 strip down that looked similar on the spark plug. Engine was totally destroyed, rod let go and piston smashed to bits, not many parts salvageable, I really hope yours isn’t the same, all the best Dean
Nicely done even when you hoisted it up I was like it’s moving and then you say the exact words lol
Great video 👍 looks more straightforward removing that then the Rs4 engine.
My biggest problem would be remembering how all the wiring harness goes on and fed round the engine
Can’t wait to see it stripped and what’s up.
Yeah I take loads of pictures to help with that
good honest content from beginning to end. love it.
would pulling the side blades not make working up around the ECU's easier, noot helpful now but when you put it back together it may help
I looked at it, but decided it wasn’t easier 😂
Jesus! I love cars. I used to love working on cars. I could not be arsed with that.
Just curious was the oil sensor functioning correctly? Wonder if it's been a combination of oil cooler leaking and previous owner not checking it hence its just ran too low and then lost pressure. If the oil sensor was faulty which is common on these
Fully enjoy watching him. Always waiting for RUclips notifications for his videos 👌🏻
Can’t wait for text instalment🤙 great work Dean🙏🏻
Hi Dean, great video. I would choose option 4 best outcome for the money £10,000 completed and you know the engine is good 👍 👍👍a new engine will probably end up being £20,000 after all extras !
I feel that the hex nut on the pipe you were struggling with is to hold it still when tightening, so that the pipe isn't stressed..
Awesome explanations as always.. Cant wait to see the state of that head 👍😫
Really enjoying the speed this 1 is going along at mate 👍
Hats off man. Nerves of a steel. Maybe i could manage to remove the engine somehow but i could have never ever put this thing together again, i am sure of that.
Lovely Jubbly, your definitely not afraid of hard work Dean.
Brilliant cliff hanger! What an absolute tease at the end!
love watching your vids.. only just noticed after a year of watching you I wasn't subscribed! amazing how i haven't missed a video
Is that the same basic engine layout as the RS you rebuilt (a few times ;)) Dean?
This is based of the older B7 RS4 engine, a few differences but fundamentally the same
Great work Dean, that came out fairly easy 👍👍
Isn't as bad as you thought!!! Bruv you got some serious talent 👏
Not really your main concern at the moment but check those rear wheel bearings after rolling back with no drive shafts fitted, have known bearing to collapse when there is no driveshaft fitted

That fake bolt on the oil cooler is the ultimate troll. Someone at VAG is probably laughing their ass off 😂
Great content mate. Wish i had a mate like you to fix my cars , I'd be buying them all the time lol. Great video as usual thanks girl showing us
Top job on getting the engine out. Defford looks easier than the RS4 did. Maybe you just made it look easy 👍🏻

Only you would remove this engine without any manuals😂. I love these vids you are something else. Brilliant thanks
😂 just keep removing bolts. It’s gotta fall
out at some point right? 😂
Great video as always Dean , looking forward to seeing the next instalment 👍👍👍👍👍
Amazing. Apart from wondering how it can be economical to manufacture something so complicated, I’d like to know your tips to remember where everything goes, please.
great work - loveing this
Amazed with the corrosion on bolts and ecu-bracket etc. Audi doesnt use RVS bolts? Big job but very interesting . Big Up!
God knows what you cut but those orange wires are not likely to be part of the AW Ghost set up. The thing wires inline to the CAN so no additional wires needed. Normally wrapped up in the loom.
I have a dead alternator in my 2014 Honda crv and I'm intimidated to do it. BRAVO for u
A bit angry today Deano,I’ll send you some lavender tea,it helps me mate 🚒😂👍👍
