- I picked up this lovely looking Steepletone Classic Rock Mini Juke Box on eBay, for some reason, and it has no power.
Let's try and get it back up and running again!
Hope you enjoy!
Steve
PS. I'm not an expert in repairs at all. I do this for fun, and it may not be the best or safest way to go about repairing broken stuff. I'm pretty good at melting plastic though. Please don't copy me - I'm an idiot.

I hate it when stuff is not owkring.
Is that the same as it’s ufcked? Lol
I just laughed out loud at this comment 😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️
@@DarrensToychannel 🤣🤣🤣
It's not the first time I hear this word. Many girlfriends said to me "This is not owkring" and then they simple vanish. Odd.
Yes. That and those awful fashion people. FCUK.
Just remember kids, always start with the easiest thing to fix first even when it seems unlikely!
Yep the in-laws 3d printer wasn't working properly, asked him multiple times 'have you checked the wiring ?', everytime Yep.
Walked in, checked the wiring, one connector was basically plugged into itself. Took 2 minutes to diagnose and 'fix'.
ALWAYS check the easiest thing first.
This channel is like one of those woodworking channels. I love to watch it and throughout the entire video I am thinking "damn this is so cool I wish I could do it, why don't I just buy some tools and start doing it? Even if poorly, as a hobby...", and then I never do it lol
Feel the same way. It’s probably amazing feeling knowing you can fix stuff around the house
DO IT 👍It's fun to repair broken things!
It's a fun hobby! But a deep rabbit hole...lol. I fix electronics and make electronics. Just do it!
DIY perks ?
@@akmalikhansahafsah haha that is definitely one of them
A new stez video is like music to my ears
😁 thanks Phil!
Better than factory. Must be a t-shirt there somewhere
Me a week ago when I saw these videos in my recommended list: “who the hell would want to watch somebody…I’ll just watch a little bit…”
Me a week later after watching about 20 videos so far: “Hmm… I know nothing about electronics but I think I need a soldering iron. If I just use words like “continuity, traces and ‘nice’ I could make this work!”
Love the channel. You convinced me to order a battery and screen for my iPhone 8. No soldering obviously but I can confirm the operation was successful.
At 4:57 the reason why you were getting continuity you were measuring the outside of the barrel plug to the CENTRE pin at the back, rather than the edge connection...so the "continuity" you were hearing was thorough the power supply's circuit. Had you touched the right connector at the back you wouldn't have gotten continuity. At 5:41 you were touching the correct connector at the back, hence no continuity.
p.s. You shouldn't have the power supply plugged into line voltage when doing continuity tests as you could blow your meter if you touch the wrong pin.
@Nom The thing is, in continuity mode, resistor (Ohms) mode, diode mode (and other modes for testing capacitors and transistors), the meter is supplying the voltage needed for testing the component from its internal battery.
If what you are testing is powered, or has a stored charge from a capacitor, the least issue you could have is a false reading as the meter is using its supplied voltage as part of its computation. However depending on the meter anything from blowing a fuse, blowing the measuring circuit, or bursting batteries can happen when the powered source is added to the meter's internal voltage. I once had a Radio Shack (Micronta) meter that was always blowing its fuse if you made a mistake like that; that's how I learned the hard way!
just want to say that one of your videos poped up in my recommended the other week. Ever since ive been binging on ur previous one . very entertaining keep up the great work
Thanks Hogarth! 👍
Nice one Steve.. your room is becoming a tanning bed with all of the repairs and lit LEDs... Cool
🤣 thanks Oz! It certainly is! 😁
You know I have no idea what you're doing but I can't stop watching your videos because you make me chuckle
Steve the Juke Box Hero 😄 So glad to see your channel is blowing up, you'll pass the 100k mark in no time!
Steve, I stumbled across your channel a few days ago. I’m some 25 videos deep now in your back catalogue. Absolutely love your content and the dry humour. I know nothing about electronics, but thanks to you I’m learning and enjoying simultaneously. Thanks fella - subbed and loving it!
Wow! A showman with soldering (and fault finding) skills! Very well done, Steve! What a show, man!😁😁😁
Super addicted to your videos since finding you last week, I have 12 years of soldering experience from my first job so I’ve started buying all the gear to fix broken things after being inspired by you, first job will be a radio for my workstation and then a faulty gamegear I think:) looking forward to more videos and this channel is definitely set for big things…..ps, keep singing bro :D
Bone, Thugs, and Harmony! Nice!
Always make the barrel nice, clean and shiny especially the outside 😀 an old printer I had would arc and spark requiring lots of wiggling to get it to work! About a year later I wiped the connector and it worked flawlessly after that.
Just started watching your videos sir! It's quite relaxing to watch you track down problems on boards.
Hey, Steve. I've been watching your videos for a few days now and thanks to you I finally had the courage to completely take apart and clean my PS4 controller. Next up is my Pro, I'll take it apart, clean it up and change the thermal paste and pads too, I have newfound confidence now thanks to you.
You also rekindled my love for retro games, so I'm gonna buy a retro console, not sure which one yet though.
I am going to nominate this for an Alexa upgrade!!!!!
Good shout! 👍
You gave a new meaning to the question "Is Pepsi OK?"
Hey Stez! Can you make a video on how to use the multimeter? I'd love to learn how you utilize it
Just a tip, normal scissors can give you a very clean cut in soda cans in case you need to use that technique again , but grat job its amazing when big items are "broken" and it's something really simple.
I love this Jukebox. I wish I had one.
Anyone else would've just hard wired it, or just me?
Also, for something _fairly_ modern, that rats-nest of wires was surprising!!
I wouldn't say it was surprising at all.
Yes, I was thinking I would have just hard wired it, but actually this is much cleaner and actually didn't take much effort.
Use barrel plug from spare parts… lol
@@cheapasstech I'm pretty sure that dude has a lot of spare parts.
@@EikottXD very sure that Steve has a lot 😅
The squint edit had me spitting my coffee across the room😂
So, what's wrong with "off of eBay"?
"off of" is pretty much an American thing. It'd be either just "off eBay" or "from eBay" over here.
I'm American and I would usually say "from eBay", but it all sounds fine to me.
Yeah, its perfectly fine, I guess the guy who commented just took offence for some reason 😁
nothing
Yes! More bone thugs sing alongs please that made my day steve thank you! Great repairs as always.
I have learned so much about electronics from watching your videos. Thank you so much for what you're doing!
As a fellow Southern brit its always good to hear other hop hop lovers
I love my old Steepletone multi-band receivers but.. that tacky thing err no! It made an entertaining video. Listen to brother Steve! children don't! cut up soda cans.
leave it to Captain Bodge! ^ the knob, flap muppet in the video 😂 props to Jaymz & Aude for being so kind and making some Steve's! wishes become reality 😎👍🏻
😆 thanks brother Steve! It certainly is tacky! There's a charming warmth to the sound though, which does remind me of older radios. 🤓
@@StezStixFix Steve that spambot is back
Enjoy watching your videos. Re your singing: Don't give up the day job!
Ever since I subscribed you’re in 90% of my recommended videos... I don’t know what sacrifices you made to the algorithm gods but I am absolutely not complaining
😁 yeah, I'm not sure either! They probably took a kidney or something while I was asleep 🤣
I liked the fact you fixed it without buying bits obviously the answer would be to replace the broken part that's not the hard part. Hardest is to fix without a new part
The "Better than factory" had me in stitches, I’m sure Alec would appreciate it.
Lmao at the hidden Flap, still chuckling .
Recently discovered this channel... I came for the electronics repairs, but stayed for the superb knowledge of 90s music and sublime collection of t-shirts.
Doesn't say "Get in!"
Me: Waiting patiently in the rain
Love a bit of bones thugs n harmony in a test cd.
People should use more drinks cans in repairs, it's part of recycling. 🤣👍
Great video as always.
Thanks Craig! 👍
when you were testing the plug the transformer wire should be out of the plug otherwise your looping through the transformar to the plug 😁😁👍👍
The subscribers have really been rolling in the past week or so. Well deserved!
and.....Bob's your uncle......you kill me man! Loving your content!
I always love seeing these one off collectibles being fixed instead of being thrown away as scrap parts
i got one from a charity shop..im hoping to install an amazon dot inside it..
Best ASMR channel out there. All jokes aside, love your channel Steve! Finally getting the traction it deserves.
Well well I happy 😊 you make it works again. You figure out the problem within some mns.
Someone throw 1 like this in the dustbin.
The difference between yours and mine is the juke box play tape not CD.
I didn't check it well I have keep it aside. But for you is in good shape. For me I must do a good restoration.
I am very happy you posted this video. ❤️
Omg you cracked me up with that better then factory comment you made. Your one funny man. I wonder if anyone else noticed like I have. The thermal paste one as well the perfect amount. Ty for entertaining me.
Came for the soldering, subscribed for the Bone Thugs bit. Great work man!
Got this in my recommended, i am amused. thanks good sir.
Soon we will see the silver play button in the backround, he deserve it.
to the poster who corrected steve's grammar.... thanks. "off of" shits me to tears.
Recently stumbled on to your channel..watched a few episodes..awesome..subscribed ..fixed...yay😉👍
In the early 2000s for $7 shipped I bought an AM/FM CD Alarm Clock off eBay. It was sold as having a broken eject lid for the CD. I didn't fix the eject mechanism, but I added a little knob on top of the lid. The alarm clock was for work because I didn't want something expensive to be stolen. The company required headphones so I added a jack. However, I didn't know how to make the sound hot swappable from speakers to headphones. So I added a toggle switch to determine which output to send the juice to.
I would love to see a video on all the equipment you use. what is your microscope? what solder sucker do you use? what different irons do you have? thermal camera, the mat, flux, solder mask and uv light etc. this would be good for people looking to get into electronic repairs or people looking to upgrade gear
You are a goofy guy, I like this.
I also just picture your living place full of random little electronics
Love your "stupid" outro. Your personality is so captivating. I have no idea about electronics but love your videos! Keep em comming!
Hilarious videos. Don't know nothing about soldering and beeping devices, but cant stop watching... U should do some singing show with voiceover Steve)
You make my days better, thank you! 🤗
Bro (or should I say Mate) youre my new favorite channel! YOU my friend are what makes this channel so great!! How you don't have 6 million followers is a crime. Keep it up my man 👊👊
Good job and great song choice to test the jukebox
RUclips algorithm on point recommending me your channel. Keep up the great owrk!
Always test power supplies by attaching a load. Often they can fail such that the unloaded voltage looks okish but when it goes under load the voltage drops out. You can measure as you plug it in and if it drops out it may not be a short in the device but a faulty supply. I use a grid of power resistors i mounted with heat sink compound to an aluminum plate with some fans. Then I use jumper cables to make the load whatever it needs to be to pull the full load amps.
Did you say “he’s a Jukebox zero”? Haha Nice repair vide9, always goes to show, start at the easy bits first!
The Bone Thugs singing might have been the best part.
all right mate the EEVblog has just done some vids on testing caps in circuit with ot removing them yay . not related but massive help. keep up the good vids.
Great Fix. I would never have thought to fix the socket, but used another or a bench PSU to power the unit while I waited for a replacement.
Great reapair job,awesome video Steve.
Great video. I wonder if you could take like old stuff like that and add Bluetooth to them and sell for more.
Very nice fix Steve.
You should buy a 3.5 mm jack bluetooth transmitter for the line to attach to the jukebox.
I'm pretty good with soldering iron, I just show up for the singing. :)
been looking forward to a new video all week after being suggested your channel, thank you so much for making the videos that you do!!
I was surprised your drinks-can bodge worked as they are only conductive on the outside due to the plastic coating on the inside.
Nice job fitted a better quality part makes you wonder how many of these might have been thrown out down to the fitted jack failing its good they used wood in the construction it does sound better than i would have given it credit for .
I've been watching your videos for about a week now, i'm hooked and now i'm subscribed... took me long enough didn't it!
😆 much appreciated!
It one cool item glad you got it working
It was what I was looking for. Very easy to follow the steps. It works!
The plug probably shorts the circut when no plug is inserted. Once you instert the plug the bridge is broken and power is delivered. It looked like the negative was pressed to far inward to make contact with the plug. All you had to do was bend it in place again probably. You can see that it's been in contact with a plug before since you can see scratching on it.
Had a similar one of these for years now as I used to lust after them as a Kid sat in the Curio/Tat stores despite audio wise they are essentially a cheap Boombox in a fancy shell.
Mines had bulbs out years and I think the CDs a little tired so I may see if I can upgrade it in future and try and make it a little more like a real one.
Hmmm wires Steve as always mate thank you sir 🙏
My man has some great taste in music!
I really enjoy your videos. You seem awesome. Thank God YT recommended you to me.
Just stumbled across your videos and I know I'm going to be hooked you bar steward.
Northern English man rapping to Bone Thugs....PERFECT! 👌
I can’t believe it was just that what a bargain well done Steve
At 7:00 when all your german viewers go: "DOSENPFAND!"
Nice vids ;)
Very nice Steve. Never put a penny in a fuse socket. Never.
🤣 excellent advice! 😁 Thanks WanJockey 👍
well tidy fix :D likely a better build quality now than when it left the factory!
The third contact is a switch to turn off the battery suppply
More inside the box than I imagined.
Knobs AND Flaps ? Nice !
No joke, you should put 100% into your singing vocals! You do have a nice voice and I can hear that you have good tonal acuity. Just put some oomf in it m8! XD Loving the vids!
In other words, don't be shy with those pipes!
4:22 That’s what she said! Lol I couldn’t help myself I’m sorry. Enjoyed the video thx buddy
You got a like for the "off of" vs "off". Thank you. Now to enjoy the rest of the video.......
Interesting, informative, and funny. RUclips just put a load of your videos in front of me, watched loads and subscribed :) I think the RUclips algorithm has just put you out there as well looking at your recent subscription numbers. Nice one :)
I see all your tools listed, but what about that work mat with all the sorting compartments?
When I was a field engineer I was called to look at a dead plotter. it had intermittent problems for a while, but now was dead. The secretary had stuffed tin foil up the barrel to "improve contact", yeah she shorted it and blew the power supply!
Nice croc Ste!
Great looking mini Juke box you fixed there Steve another job well done and one for the collection - nice 1 👍
Thanks Chris 👍
@@StezStixFix Aye what was the second track you was about to play you should have let that track ride out shit sounded like mf doom a lil bit fam.
