Austin 🥹 thank you buddy! It’s scary posting about this topic but I really want to normalise it with the small audience I have and show that it’s cool to open up and express how you feel. It’s not easy and we don’t always have to, but it’s healthy to once in a while! Let’s make it the norm for us gents. I’m sorry that you know the struggle but sounds like you’re doing unbelievable and I’m proud of you too! Thank you as always for supporting everything I do - even if it’s different content like this ❤️

I completely understand all the points you’ve made here. I’ve been through it myself. Just hit 2 years sober in May. Took ages for me to not have cravings, then longer to not feel the outsider. But after the first year I’d gone past all the excuses - birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, Xmas etc. and it got easier. Keep on going mate. Not everyone will get it but some of us just can’t stop at one so the best thing is to not even start anymore.

Yo thanks for sharing dude. Been there - alot of your story rings home. Your love of pub life - replace it with something else. When I went sober I figured I'd go back to something I use to love, or something as a kid I thought was cool but never ended up getting into. That helped me replace the good times I had drinking with new good times that could keep my mind occupied and focused or rather - distracted. My new persuits/hobbies led me to some really cool people, places, and times.

It’s really hard because I feel guilty talking about the most basic of problems, but they start to really get you down and cause you problems when they all build up.

Glad you didn't have peer pressure to drink, that can be a negative force that works against your goal. I stopped having any alcohol, before my annual bloodwork, and friends & family repeatedly asked why I wasn't drinking and kept offering it. I've never had that type of addiction (only action figures, lol), but in those moments, I saw how important it is for others to have you join in. Being cool is a state of mind though, so just be your normal cheerful self, and you'll have no trouble fitting in anywhere, as people will gravitate to your good energy as well - like many of us have!

I personally can't relate to any of the alcohol troubles have never drank myself, have struggled and overcome with my own demons and let me tell ya, the thing with the pub thing and not fitting in/feeling alien. Just remember nobody else is paying attention to you nor cares to. You can sit there in the most embarrassing clown outfit and nobody would care. Just be yourself and get that orange juice served in the hello kitty glass.
And the story with the toy store is so lovely to hear. It's moments like that really make a trip like that worthwhile.

Once again, I am so incredibly proud of you and how far you have come (in a relatively short time) on your recovering journey towards sustaining sobriety. You are to be commended for your strength, for your bravery, for your resolve, and for your commitment. I shared your story with my darling wife, as well as the rest of the Marino family-and our response is unanimous; we are all so proud of you. Honestly.
Drinking dependency can be a disastrously destructive force that prevents someone from living the life they want. Fortunately, you had a compassionate support team, making it possible for you to recover and get back on track with your health, relationships and goals. You are proof of that, and so you, too, must recognise the courageous will of your resolve.
Family and friends often place the needs of their loved one above their own. That can result in a lack of self-care, increased illness and sometimes struggles with anxiety. Taking care of your own physical, emotional and mental health takes precedence over all. One needs to first find the strength within themselves; therefore, one will be better equipped to help themselves through the difficult-albeit possible-journey towards recovery. As the old adage goes, you cannot pour from an empty cup. No, indeed!
You have navigated this daunting challenge brilliantly. Live and lead by example, instruct the masses, and inspire them with your story. A brave but brilliant moral lesson. Thank you for the didactic. I hope many will intently heed your story, for you have given them hope. You have managed resistance, even on holiday, and I am proud of the brilliant chap you have become, focusing on your own well-being. That, m’boy, says a lot about your inner, and outer, character; thus, your affable disposition today paints you in a grateful, strong light. Aye! You are strong! Continue to stay strong! 👏✊🙏👍

    • @EzrasJunkyard

Aw Giovanni and the Marino family - thank you so much for being proud of me, that makes me so happy and feel incredibly proud of myself, which for some reason, I haven’t allowed myself to feel yet. I’m always thinking well, it’s your own fault you have this issue anyway, so why should you feel proud that you’re beating it? It’s a strange outlook to have. But your words make me feel proud for once, thank you.
100% agree with you on my support team and this is something I just wish I mentioned in the video. My support network and the company I have around me, just couldn’t be better. I am incredibly fortunate and lucky to have them. Without this, it must be so hard, 10X harder than what I’ve had to endure.
It works both ways and comes in full circle. I recognised I had a problem, I told them, they supported me, I looked after myself and at times was very selfish but in the end it’s meant I can be more present and my best self around them again.
The changes I’ve made are so small and so subtle, they even feel petty to even talk about sometimes. Like just the small things like a fish and chips queue. But when you have loads of those things built up then they start to really impact your day to day life and bring you down.
Again, I can’t thank you enough for your kind words and encouragement. I’m just off out now for dinner and will reply to the rest of your message shortly! I hope you’re having a fabulous holiday and I will catch up with you soon. Ezra ❤️
