I talked to Mystery Skulls directly and he was able to get his crew to get this video back up and running (They seemed equally confused as to why the video was taken down in the first place). Hopefully this video should be immune from any future take-down shenanigans.

New TV show plot: This is the end of season one, we never see his eyes the entire show, and he goes around a world that's forgotten how to love one another putting restless spirits to sleep through the power of SONG. He also has a super cynical hellish imp who makes sarcastic remarks and is generally indestructible but is still the show's punching bag.

This character design is downright inspired. He gives off the vibes of a Victorian conductor and a 70's funk singer, to the point of which I can see him be completely one or the other. The wand/baton idea is brilliant, and making him a necromancer who rallies the spirits of the dead and conducts them in song is just goddamn incredible. I know there's some more drawings featuring him, but he's such a stroke of genius I'm depressed he's not a major character that comics are being written about.

After reading the 2020 update I'm honestly fine without it being fully animated, even as an animatic this is a work of art that blows me away every time. Even incomplete, though who is to say when art is incomplete, this is beautiful and makes my heart soar.
I get the feeling that Mystery, Vivi and Arthur might need this guy help.

When you can't decide if you want your Chaotic Good character to be a Necromancer or a Bard, but the DM is chill and lets you multiclass in equal measure.
Man, I always love necromancer characters that have actual thought put into them. Rather than the simple 'oooh I'm an evil necromancer here to raise an army of the dead to take over the world'
That ending was beautiful. All monsters were born from a crying child or deep emotional wound that never healed.

This video never ceases to bring a smile to my face, and make teary-eyed. The main character is unique and exudes personality without needing to speak a single line. A great deal of love went into making this, and it is my sincerest hope that a full animation sees the light of day.
Even if this is as far as it goes, it is a great, memorable work.

I like to imagine the huge crowds of ghosts he summoned were all people whose lives had been touched by the ghost girl when she was alive, and the collective power of all their memories, focused by his talisman, was enough to remind the monster who she really was.
Like, imagine this was the ending finale to an animated series, and all along, we'd been slowly learning more and more about who she used to be through stories told by other ghosts who used to know her, gradually building up a picture of who she was. Then here, we'd be seeing EVERY ghost character in the series come back to help save her from an eternity of loneliness. You'd be crying.

This song is always apart of my childhood and just seeing the animation as it is now is still mind blowing on the story. I know you won’t fully animate that and that’s still understandable but here’s hoping you might come back to. Wishing you luck as we get through this terrible year.

Agreed. It's incredibly good, even in its unfinished state. If it were re-made more professionally with a decent FPS, even if the artstyle didn't change much, it would probably be even better than the AMV for Ghost (which is among my favorite music videos of all time). Basically, for an animatic, this is insane.

Copyright is not an insurmountable obstacle. If it's possible to pay for the labor then it's possible to pay for the license to do it. I am sure that a good deal could be struck.
To this day I still hope that this gets enough money to become a fully animated music video! The story, the timing, the emotions, the clever fighting! It's all breathtaking!

Magic is one of those songs that I can't stop listening to. I listen to it when I'm in a good mood, when I need to feel better. I'd play this at my wedding bro! This is the best mystery skulls song, in my opinion.

Necromancy involves the dead, and I have to agree, this could be the good side of Necromancy (This Does Make The Writer in Me very happy and Inspired). Like everything there's a good side and a bad side, take Halloween candy for example; you have candy that's just normal enjoyable candy, but there's candy that's been tampered with and laced with deadly things like drugs, nails, meds, and so on.

well depends on the caster i guess, Loepold uses his talents to (as seen in the video) help troubled spirits from their suffering rather than raising an army to take over the world or something which sadly became the stereotype for necromancers everywhere

I don't care if it takes only a few months with multiple people to finish this, a few years with one person, or never at all. I love this just as it is, it's gorgeous. And honestly more work than you see in most animatics.

The real magic is how much these stories resonate with all of us.

Why the hell did Mystery Skulls lawyer have no problem with Bens video but have a problem with this beautiful animatic?? This is so amazing looking, I guess that Ben is close to them or something?? Man, I'm sorry that all this hard work had to get scrapped, but I hope we get to see a lot of other content from you! This is so good looking.
I agree, only just found out about that today too. It is a real shame but I believe there was something else hinted at in one of their Tumblr posts regarding it... Either way, I love the design and personality of these characters now that I've seen this animatic - and I'm glad others seem to think so too! It's very inspirational.
Ben's videos are official, as in Mystery Skulls asked him to make at least Ghost, unsure of others.
I don't see why a company can't have more than one animator. Gives more room for collaboration - and people typically learn best from their own colleagues. They're more than justified to defend their music but it just seems very standoffish. It puts people off doing what MysteryBen originally did; pour time, ideas and effort into a big pot and hope the copyrighted song doesn't leave them with a bitter taste in their mouth.
We wouldn't want another case like Vivziepop's Die Young animation. Something truly good ruined by the copyright holders of the song is not a fate I wish upon anyone.
They do have more than one animator, MysteryBen is part of a TEAM, not just a sole animator. And on top of that, what I said before still stands, Ben didn't JUST make an animation and have it be okay with the copyright lawyers and whatnot, the Ghost animation was made FOR Mystery Skulls. As in, they pre planned to have him make it for their song. And so now he and his team are making more animations with explicit permission from Mystery Skulls, and more likely they're getting paid for their work.
The issue with the Magic animatic is its creator wants to have a team to help her animate it, but she doesn't feel right making people animate her personal project without getting paid, so she had to contact Mystery Skulls' lawyer about it. She CANNOT pay people to work on a copyrighted material without permission. Lest she get in legal trouble for it.
Also the Die Young thing isn't a good comparison, since the initial copyright claims on the video were filled by someone who wasn't even a copyright holder who wanted to start shit, and youtube's copyright system is absolute crap.
Don't get me wrong, I hate it too, and I would love to see this animation turn out into something great, but I'm just trying to shed light on why it can't.
At least for now, since the animator has mentioned trying to make it a personal project that is worked on for free.

God, I have loved this video for years now, and now that I'm older and thinking about writing a D&D campaign, this video popped into my head, and I started thinking about how cool a Bard/Wizard multi class would be for a boss or helpful NPC or whatever. I don’t know how you did it but it somehow has the same amount of intrigue, splendid supernatural aspects, story, interesting characters and flair(plus that tiny bit of feels) that the mystery skulls videos have. Well done! And even if this is the most you can do to this, I have to applaud you for such an awesome video!

everytime i hear this song, i immediately think about this concept it's once of the cutest things ive ever seen. never fails to make me smile
