wow spence is one of the most elite prep schools in New York I didn’t know Kerry Washington went there. as a black girl who went to a predominantly white prep school on a scholarship I have never identified with a celebrity so much as I have right now
I knew that Kerry was a graduate of Spence, ever since I heard about her, from save the last dance. I tend to do research on people that I like. Which prep school did you attend?
I was struck by Gwyneth asking "Are you a Virgo?" As a writer, avid keeper of journals, and a Virgo, I feel her perceptions, astrologically speaking, are quite astute. Kerry's eloquence and emotional intelligence are enlightening. It is quite rare to see such qualities tethered to such a gregarious, exuberant personality.
Belongs to everybody. If he’s in trouble, we’re all in trouble. As a mixed kid who’s had issues with many structures of society, this hit home. I appreciate this interview. Thank you to both of these women continuing on with activating minds. Much appreciation and love.
This was a wonderful conversation between two brilliant women. I learned some new things about Kerry Washington . I saw American son at The Toronto Film Festival in September. I took a picture of her coming out of the theatre and posted it on my IG.
That quote she attributed to the Dali Lama about being more busy than usual so he must spend more time in meditation. Actually is from Martin Luther who said he has more to do so much that he must spend more time in prayer than usual"
Very intellectual conversation Kerry is so intelligent 🤓 and gwenyth asked her some really good questions she made her feel comfortable I love both of these beautiful smart and charismatic ladies .
Wow, I am really impressed by this interview! Not EVERYTHING is about race, but Kerry Washington is a black woman. I knew that she & Gwyneth had went to school together and wondered if Kerry would touch on her particular experience as brown skin girl, receiving an education surrounded by white folks. I'm so happy Kerry didn't shy away speaking the truth of her experience. Gwyneth is good interviewer as well; she listened, and didn't interrupt or constantly insert her opinion. Kerry so insightful and intelligent!!
This conversation went deep. Gwyneth and Kerry really complimented each other on levels of conversation that can make a person feel uncomfortable. It made me feel very peaceful.
Kerry is just a refreshing person in general . In one conversation you’re going to learn new vocabulary, facts you never knew, and a point of view you never thought of and her voice sounds like a hug personified 🤗 I could only dream of meeting her but she did wish me happy birthday last week
This is the BEST interview I have ever seen with Kerry in it. I'm a huge fan of Kerry Washingtons, both women are lovely but I was so impressed how Kerry opened up so much about her family and though she is a private person let people in a bit and was willing to answer all the questions and so honestly. Thank you Gwyeth Thank you So much Kerry!!!
I know several black kids who went to one of the independent schools and they all have identity issues. They are highly intelligent so they pick up on the differences visually, psychologically & emotionally but don’t have the maturity to process it. Happy she prioritized her mental health. Kerry is awesome! 💪🏾
I've always loved Kerry Washington, but I didn't know much about Gwyneth Paltrow, though from what I knew of her from movies, etc, she always struck me as someone who is talented. I loved this particular interview because there's just something organic about how Kerry and Gwyneth vibe. Both strike me as highly intelligent, talented and beautiful women. Such great role models for girls and women!
I know it is simplistic to say this, but I often wonder if GP realizes how much luck has played a role in her life. Lucky to be born white, blond and beautiful. Lucky to grow up in wealth, summer in the Hamptons, receive a private-school education, and have parents in the entertainment industry so she never really had to struggle to get roles. She has been breathing the rarefied air of being on the A-list since she was in her 20s, and listening to this, it sounds like she breezed through the social world of HS just as easily. Like Kerry says in the beginning, there are many things in life that are not accessible to you if you are born with “too much melatonin”.
I met Gwyneth years ago at my job exactly 1 week before the Oscars, where she was up for best actress in Shakespeare In Love. It was one of my top movies that year (I had seen it twice). Anyway, I was able to tell her face to her face that I was routing for her. She was so gracious and humble and said, "thank you, that is so nice of you." I wished her a good day and she said, "thank you, you have a good day too."
@YRS Yes, she looked great and is tall too. Also her mother Bluthe Danner ( who I also love) used to come in. She is exactly how you see her. Full of energy and very sweet too.
The addict analogy was a good comparison. As for the entire interview I did not know Kerry was so transparent I have a new found admiration for her now and I adored Gwyneth.
The teammate analogy in regards to step parenting🙌🎤😘 That speaks volumes of the maturity level of all parties involved. Sadly it is very rare with blended families. On another note: Racism was always there; however, when Obama was elected it became an overt operation rather than a covert one! With Trump......
I have lived in apartments my whole life and still have yet to meet a single person who lives in an apartment that the elevator door opens to, like Kerry described. The first time I ever saw that or recognized it was when watching "Gossip Girl." I don't want to invalidate Kerry's experiences, because there's definitely white privilege, but I felt this particular racial contrast made it sound like this is something white people have. No we don't, unless you're the 1%-er NY elite. In that particular school, most white kids would feel just as uncomfortable, "outsider" and poor in comparison.
One of the best interviews I've ever watched. It literally felt like I was hanging out with friends. Gwyneth is an awesome interviewer and Kerry well she is fabulous and extremely well spoken!!! You two are goals!
Gwenyth Paltrow on becoming a woman on top: “You embody that vulnerability or the ignorance that you have and don’t let it turn into a shaming mechanism.” 🙌🏼 Such an eye-opening statement and something I’m working on.
This is a really excellent interview. Gwyneth did such a great job interviewing and connecting and Kerry did such a great job describing her story. I am blown away by both ladies - very smart conversation/interview.
Best interview I've watched in a longtime... Enjoyed you both and love both your work. The Politician is great can't wait for season 2. Kerry, i will be watching your flex soon.
How Kerry carried herself through that woww cut through thr established white supremacy Now I feel like it could my time being Thai and NON binary to be just inclusive
That was very clever of GP to ask these questions so her audience which seem to be predominately white can learn about our otherness and appreciate the struggle. Learn that it's time to educate about what's been going on and try and think less bias.
This was so good. Eloquence, transparency, wisdom, truth and self awareness. I love that she didn't allow the audience or the interviewer to minimize her truth!!
Amazing! I truly enjoyed this!! Effortless, intelligent and transparent and relevant conversation. Gwen asking interesting, intelligent questions in human way. And Kerry wow! We need more women like you. That's way education important, it produces such people. Free thinker who doesn't afraid where they come from. Face and challenge the the world view in empathic way.
This is a great conversation. I never knew Gwyneth was such a great interviewer. I also didn't know they went to school together! That's cool that Jennifer Lopez was Kerry's dance teacher too!!!!
10 minutes in and I love this interview. Thank you for sharing. I didn't know what to expect, just listening with open ears. Both beautiful inspiring women
I love how she described her education! now those are life skills, growth skills! This is one form of female black EXCELLENCE! You see her brilliance in her acting as well.
I like Gwyneth's interview style, as it is genuinely inquisitive and interested in the person across. Maybe, it's because she is intelligent & non-judgmental. She doesn't manipulate the direction of the conversation. This is just the 2nd video I've viewed and listened to and enjoyed it. Thanks for posting!
Can Paltrow please do individual podcasts with Sharon Stone, Bette Midler, Diane Keaton, Barbra Streisand, Jane Fonda and Angelina Jolie? Would love to hear their thoughts on life, success, wellness, inherent beliefs, daily rituals, and aging. Thank you.
Oh Gwyneth, I felt the same way when Obama was elected. I thought we were on the right path.Times were finally a changing. AND then my neighbor shared with me how she was so upset with his election. And she was angry!! And that was my wake up call. And I love this neighbor...we live next door to each other and were miles apart.

I WAS GETTING READY TO START WORKING ON MY HOLIDAY LINE FOR MY STORE, AND DECIDED I NEEDED A LITTLE GIRL POWER FIRST, AND THIS WAS MORE THAN ENOUGH TO POWER ME THROUGH THE MORNING. I wish I could ask Kerry if she had influence on the music in Scandal, even the records played by Olivia Pope....It was a huge part of why I loved every Season.
wow spence is one of the most elite prep schools in New York I didn’t know Kerry Washington went there. as a black girl who went to a predominantly white prep school on a scholarship I have never identified with a celebrity so much as I have right now

Are you surprised? She is blaque darling. She comes from black excellence!
@@JP0411 blaque annoyance , she never shuts up , very annoying
J P being black means being excellent by dedault? Or do you mean, ultimately, she comes from good stock (a good family)?
Deer Heart so you came to watch a video of someone you find annoying? Why? Weird.
Gwyneth Paltrow is a really solid interviewer
She had a extraordinary guest as well.
Yeah, i mean NO homework - WOW!
LOVED...'In order to learn you have to be honest about not knowing...' around 13:26 mark
So inspiring. Thanks ladies, I needed to hear that.
I was struck by Gwyneth asking "Are you a Virgo?" As a writer, avid keeper of journals, and a Virgo, I feel her perceptions, astrologically speaking, are quite astute. Brilliant in what way ?
The camaraderie between these two is awesome
I love the recorded interviews!! Even tho I already listen to them of the good podcast, this is the cherry on top. Thank you!!
Who loved Kerry Washington in American Son on Netflix ?
I loved seeing her, I didnt like the picture they painted of her. They made her seem angry.
Just when I thought I couldn’t love Kerry anymore ❤️
Spence is an amazing all girls school in nyc. i really want my daughter to go there.
39:55> RELAPSE!!!! THAT'S THE WORD!!! I am so glad she said that bc Ive bn trying to figure out a succint way to explain It
Really great interview , love kerry !! Omg what Gwyneth said about Tony... So funny haha !!
I love Kerry Washington the best
This is incredible!!!
Great conversation 🙏🏼💗
Moved this to my saved video
That quote she attributed to the Dali Lama about being more busy than usual so he must spend more time in meditation. Actually is from Martin Luther who said he has more to do so much that he must spend more time in prayer than usual"
Sooo good!
Gwyneth is very humbled in this interview and down to earth. I do find that Kerry's responses to many questions are snarky and eldest.
Lol literally how?!
I wonder if the comment she made about the teacher, Larry, that she and JLo had who "fell ill in the 80s" was a reference to AIDs..
Kerry Washington’s skin is #goals. She is so beautiful. Simple and chic
She looked AGED in that Netflix movie. I did not expect that.
@@rickimcfarland2269 true
Me after watching Kerry Washington : I need to read more books
Ha Ditto!!
She has that gift. She could do a talk show easily. Reading and thinking are two animals.
I am Brazilian and I feel just as the same 🤦🏻♀️😁
I swear! All the time 😂
Me too,I want to speak so confidently and gracefully like Kerry.
Very intellectual conversation Kerry is so intelligent 🤓 and gwenyth asked her some really good questions she made her feel comfortable I love both of these beautiful smart and charismatic ladies .
I like both the ladies. Both surprised me. Gwyneth is misrepresented in the media. Kerry is really smart. Loved this interview.
Completely agree!!
I don't think so. Gwyneth is definitely bitchy
Gwyneth is probably pretty smart. I mean u have to some kind of talent to fcking scam millions of people every day.
blank 003 no... you have to be famous/ attractive.

I loooove Kerry Washington!! Such a brilliant, stunning woman.
My dream is to speak this eloquently.
Kerry is such an eloquent woman. The way she speaks is so inspiring and conscious.
Kerry is always impressive.
I'm so impressed with how Gwyneth didn't shy away from addressing Kerry's 'otherness' in didn't phases of her life.
It’s weird how a lot of famous ppl come from the same circle, neighborhood or school. Nobody famous from my area
Jamila Moore - the entertainment community is very present in LA and NYC, When it’s right next to you growing up, it’s more easily accessible.
@Lovely_Day it also depends on the era, year and decade, they seem older than you....I could be mistaken
Kerry is just a refreshing person in general . In one conversation you’re going to learn new vocabulary, facts you never knew, and a point of view you never thought of and her voice sounds like a hug personified 🤗 I could only dream of meeting her but she did wish me happy birthday last week
Someone could develop a series about Gwyneth and Kerry's school please
Loved this pairing. Gwyn is a great interviewer and Kerry is black power personified - lush
This is a great interview. I have much respect for both women.
Kerry Washington & Reese Witherspoon working on a project together? That sounds like a power duo
OMG OMG More of this !!! Kerry, you are AMAZING!! Gwyneth, you rose 10 levels of cleverness to me!!
This is the BEST interview I have ever seen with Kerry in it. I remember in school, feeling insecure also, now I know it isn't true!
I think it depends on their environment outside of school.
I've always loved Kerry Washington, but I didn't know much about Gwyneth Paltrow, though from what I knew of her from movies, etc, she always struck me as someone who is talented.

Gwyneth would make a great journalist.
Kerry Washington looks like every Somali auntie 😂she's So beautiful 😍❤️️
Anime Fan I say this ALL the time... her features scream Somali Gyal them cheekbones whewwwww mashallah😍😍😍😍😍
Yoh!!!!! I get it now, I get it now, coz I'm like she has very distinct features. Yes Yes i get it now
Her mom is of Jamaican decent, history states that our ancestors are from West Africa, specifically Ghana or Nigeria.
spsaunde we know this
Definitely!!!!🇸🇴 even the forehead too ❤️❤️
Kerry speaks so well. Mesmerizing ✨✨✨✨
...along with a mother who is an educator.
I could listen to Kerry talk all day! She is so intelligent, calm, lovely voice, and knowledgeable! :)
So eloquent & sophisticated, also a fellow Aquarian
My cousin went to Spence! She wound up going to Spellman after she graduated. Kerry has such positive energy. I love her.
