My chief complaint about products like this is that they yellow over time due to UV exposure and the edges of the film catch and retain dirt and debris that does not wipe away without some elbow grease. This is especially noticeable on vehicles with lighter paint colors.
That was 10 years ago, most products nowadays, especially the higher quality ones, don't yellow at all. If you drive alot yes they won't look great after 5 years, but neither will your paint without anything. This way you can at least replace it and it will be as new underneath
