I'm a new knitter, so I don't have a bunch of scraps or lonely skein's yet, but I think after every project, I'm just going to crochet the leftovers into a blanket. My color palette and yarn weight selection is going to be pretty consistent / cohesive by season, so this winter I'll be starting a bulky / super bulky throw blanket. I love that Toni at TL Yarn created her temperature blanket with fringe so she wouldn't have to weave in ends. It makes me think the blanket could be usable pretty quickly, first as a lap blanket, so it's not sitting in a project bag forever. It'll just keep growing as I complete projects.
I love your idea of a cohesive capsule wardrobe that works together. The one pictured was beautiful. I think we’re all guilty of impulse buying of singles skeins of yarn… Good luck with your goals for 2024, I look forward to seeing your projects progress.
Isn’t that capsule the most gorgeous?! I’m not ashamed of buying them, but I feel like i probably ought to start… you know… using them. 😆 And then room to buy more. 🙃
I’m prioritizing sweaters and more complex shawls this year. During the stressed years of Covid I made many easy accessories, and finally got them ALL blocked, so now I’ve got a large pile of projects in the queue in my studio that require more mind focus and I’m ready for them now!
I think it’s great that you listened to what your mind needed. I definitely find that some seasons of life call for simplicity more so than others. What is next on your list?
I have been wanting to use up my stash. I knit a number of worsted/aran items last year and have embarked on knitting the coziest memory blanket out of them. I have done stranded and mosaic knitting but have not yet tried intarsia - so that is another goal for me in 2024.
This is just wonderful. Yarns and projects carry so many memories with them. It will be lovely to have them in one blanket together. Intarsia was one of my new techniques in 2023. I LOVED knitting intarsia with garter stitch. Check out Anna Husemann.
I feel the same about my sweater quantity stash whereas my single skein stash honestly is pretty big 🤭 would love to also focus on knitting with those together ☺️
How about the stripehype sweater or dress by kutova kika for your lonely skeins? I really loved using up all my single cotton skeins for a nice summer sweater 😊
Hi Hailey, I am so glad YT suggested this video to me! I love your content and the way you present it, and subscribed immediately 😊 Such a good idea to focus on leftover/single skeins. Like others mention, I also make blankets of them, mostly with mosaic crochet technique which I love, but I could certainly use some inspiration to do something else with them for a change! I will probably also need to go and stalk you on Ravelry… the sweater you are wearing is absolutely gorgeous. Geetings from Denmark 🇩🇰
I also have a new skill on my radar for this new year……steeking. I have knit two vests recently and have found there is a real place for them in my wardrobe. I want to do a fair isle vest that will be steeked on the sleeves, collar, and front.
Yesss!! Okay… so here’s my plan on that. I’m going to attempt a self-drafted sweater for my husband. I’ll need to swatch in the round. SO, I’m thinking I’ll build in steek rows in my swatch for a little no-pressure steek practice.
Lonely skeins are great for gift knitting. A lot of accessories can be made with one skein. I'm also thinking about making a Sea Glass Sweater with some of my more contrasting single skeins. I learned one color brioche last year, but I would love to make a two color brioche garment this year.
Yes! I actually knit all of my gift knits from lonely skeins. I’ve not tried two color brioche. It looks complicated but I feel like it’s probably not since it’s used in so many approachable designs. Let me know how it goes!! I’m interested to hear.
These are great goals. I am still undecided but I might also try to learn to spin. I was given a spinning wheel 5 years ago and have been debating if I want to take lessons. So many people are doing it now I keep wanting to try it and this might just be the year. Good luck on your class and I hope you accomplish all of your 2024 goals 💖
I would love to take a lesson. I’m using craftsy online classes and RUclips. I’m just casually dipping my toe in at the moment. But I plan to shift for the summer months to give it more focus.
Sounds like some good goals. I’ve been knitting since the 70’s so cables and stranded colorwork were my go to knitting favorites. I stopped knitting those when my kids got out of the homemade knitwear phase. I just did the advent with Arne and Carlos knitting a colorwork Christmas stocking hoping to revive my love for the task of colorwork. The project was fun which ended with a beautiful Christmas stocking. I’m definitely doing another. Spinning! Yes do it. Making wearable items to have in your wardrobe is a great goal. I have recently decided I don’t have to knit all the things. Making a few trusty wearables is ok. I enjoy your podcast.
I love to watch Arne and Carlos. They are colorwork masters for sure!! I’m glad you enjoyed the KAL and project enough to do it a second time. That’s awesome!!!
I, too, want to make more wearable items. I made Casapinka's Powdrr Wrap and while it is gorgeous, I have yet to wear it. I don't regret knitting it because I learned so much and learning is one of my goals . Thanks for inspiration!
Exactly. I have zero regrets in my complicated knits. The learning was more than beneficial. I feel like maybe knitting has seasons in our lives beyond just ❄️🌷☀️🍁. So my next season will look a little different from the last.
I like the idea of a lonely skein knit-along. I also love the idea of knitting a ‘classic’ or ‘basic’ wardrobe staple. These don’t have to be easy knits if they’re in a finer gauge or use a new (to me) technique like contiguous sleeves or saddle shoulders or seaming or…. I’m working on refining my colours for garments too, and knitting less bulky garments. We have very similar goals this year, can’t wait to see what you cast on next!
So glad some of this landed with you, Sarah!! After weeks of deliberation I do have a next cast on plan. I’m obsessed. But I need to knit faster to finish my current sweater WIP. I’ll give a little preview on my next WIP update. Looking forward to knitting with you in 2024!!!
Hi Haley! Good thoughts for 2024. I was very inspired by the idea of a knitted capsule collection. Do you have a link you can share about that? I recognized Moonstruck knits but still could not find it on her website nor Insta. Thanks😊
For my orphan skeins and scraps, I knit up hats and vest for charity. ❤ Yes to learn new techniques! 2024
This is wonderful!!
I’m a Moonstruck Knits addict too! I just knit the Corbis sweater and I’m currently working on the Asterie. I do love her aesthetic.
Love your podcast! ❤ Greetings from Skåne, Sweden 🤗
I love your new studio setup! I enjoyed hearing your goals and look forward to seeing what you make in 2024!
Thanks Hannah!! It’s nice to have dedicated space now for all the fiber stuff. Next up… clearing out a junk closet for a knit & fiber ‘pantry’ 🙃
Thank you Hailey for another interesting podcast, I wish you well with your goals for 2024. ☘
Oh thank you, Mary!!

I think that is BRILLIANT!! If you can start now and keep it going you will be in such great shape.
Cant wait to see what you knit!
Thank you so much!!!

Love your goals Hailey! Can’t wait to see what you get up to this year. 😊
Thanks Mia!! Looking forward to another year of knitting and podcasting with you!! And hopefully an in- person in the Fall again. 🤗

So with you on using up all those odd skeins!! I'm seeing a lot of hats and mitts in my future😅
Yes, Viki!! They are adding up. Hats and mitts and for you… baby knits!!
I feel the same about my sweater quantity stash whereas my single skein stash honestly is pretty big 🤭 would love to also focus on knitting with those together ☺️
So glad I’m not alone in this lonely skein struggle!! I’m going to do a MAL/year long project. Would love for you to join in!
@@Knitweekend of course!! that sounds like a lovely idea ☺️

I do have this one on my list of possibilities!!

Hi Nedda!! Thanks so much for watching and commenting. You’re so kind!! This is the Eurus Sweater by Ægyoknit… a DANISH design! 🙃
Yay colorwork! I also found that the two-handed method was easiest for my first colorwork endeavor. Love the idea of a lonely skeins KAL!
Great! Okay… Lonely Skeins Project coming at you soon. I’ll set it up in my next WIP update video.

Yes! It’s her December 30, 2023 post on instagram. instagram.com/p/C1eOw9zI5lm/?igsh=dmFsbDViY3J0NDRy
Ps sorry I spelled your name wrong😮
Not to worry! It’s by far not the worst misspelling I have had!!
