- Playing high notes on the trumpet can be a challenge for many musicians. A key aspect that influences this ability is the mouthpiece you use. A flat mouthpiece that has a narrower bore and flatter cup contour can help make playing high notes easier.
Why is that? Well, a flat mouthpiece allows for faster airflow to move through the mouthpiece more easily. This supports the vibrations of your lips and makes it easier to produce the higher partials (overtones) required for high notes.
In contrast, a deep mouthpiece tends to have a larger bore and deeper cup, which can result in slower airflow. This can make playing high notes more difficult as there is less support for the lips and it becomes more difficult to maintain the tension needed to produce the higher harmonics.
However, it is important to emphasize that the choice of mouthpiece is very personal and depends on many factors, including your individual anatomical features, playing style and preferences. Some players may find that they can play high notes better on a deep mouthpiece, while others may do better with a flatter mouthpiece.

Hey Nico, ich spiele mit meinem flachen Mundstück auch die Tiefen Pedaltöne. Ist nur Übungssache... Allerdings kann ich aus Erfahrung empfehlen bei flachen Kesseln darauf zu achten, kein zu kleinen Durchmesser zu wählen.
Ich kann mir ein gewisses Grinsen nicht verkneifen. Hier ging einer tatsächlich auf meine vorherigen Kommentare zur Mundstücksauswahl ein. Freut mich! Auch die Tatsache, daß wir mit der Mundstückswahl Yamaha 14B die gleiche Größe haben. Allerdings bin ich auf die Exklusiv-Serie von Yamaha umgestiegen, da die normale Ausführung des Mundstückes in Reinsilber mir an den Lippen klebte. Bei dem Goldrand der Exklusiv-Serie ist das Problem weg. Auch ist es kein Problem bei meinem Schilke-Mundstück.
Lotus Mundstücke mal ausprobieren! Das ist am Anfang eine Umstellung, aber man merkt, dass die Teile ein Gamechanger sind.
Um mal aus meiner Erfahrung zu Berichten: Da ich volle Lippen haben bevorzuge ich eher Mundstücke mit weiterem Kesseldurchmesser. Bei klassischer Musik im Orchester auf der B Drehventil komm ich mit einem Spiri 1C mega zurecht, wird aber auf Dauer in der Höhe sehr anstrengend. Alles was ausdauerlastig und hoch (Blasmusik und 1. Trompete in der Bigband) ist, komm ich spannenderweise sehr gut mit einem Bach 3C zurecht (Ausdauer um Welten besser). Die Ränder der beiden fühlen sich erstaunlich ähnlich an trotz großem Durchmesserunterschied. Hatte auch mal die 15er Schilke Serie in Verwendung, allerdings kam ich mit dem flachen A Kessel nicht zufriedenstellend klar. Zu wenig "Erleichterung" in der hohen Lage für einen am Ende recht dünnen und schmalen Sound.
Ist es nicht so, dass der Kessel tiefer wird, wenn ich bei der Bach Nomenklatur von einem 3C auf einen B Kessel wechsele?
Wenn man die tiefen Töne gescheit kann, kommen nach meiner Erfahrung die hohen Töne von alleine. Allerdings hab ich es bisher nicht höher als b2 geschafft.
