Father, I am up in the middle of the night with my first born, only a few days old, trying to console him and to give his mother a rest. I am watching your videos and am truly blessed by them. Your hat reminded me that my son needs to be wearing a hat to keep warm. I found the one he came home from the hospital in and put it on him. He seems more at peace. A simple thing, but my son thanks you, and I thank you.

That is SUCH a beautiful thing, my dear Steve. To think that you and your first born are spending time together watching our videos - that is so beautiful, such a great gift for us. May you all be blessed beyond your hopes and dreams.

I know what this is like, because I am a mother and a wife. I slay myself everyday for homeschooling and staying at home to raise my daughters in a holy way that I never received for myself. I fight against my whole being, so I can give them a good life. I feel depressed and insane at times, but by saying ‘yes’ I get the breakthrough moments of joy from Christ through the suffering that are worth it all. I learned not to communicate my suffering to others, because only God deserves the places of deep pain or joy in my heart.
I cannot help, but feel drawn by the words you say if I allow myself. I cannot deny there is something ever so special that I see in you, that reminds me of the innocence I once had as a child and the sorrow the comes along with that parting long ago. You are more than what your Monastic view has made of you. I see kindness overflowing in you that is genuine and healing to my soul.
I don’t even know why I am saying this. God bless your heart.

My dear Father! From the moment I saw the title of this teaching, I knew this would be answered prayer. Imagine my overwhelming joy when I heard you address my very question! Glory to God! You started a conversation that was very pertinent to me and I hung off every word you gave us, now you have gone to this personal level of speaking directly to my confusion and uncertainty. With tears in my eyes I listen and understand absolutely your advice as given to you by your own blessed spiritual Father. The pebble he threw in the pond then has rippled across time and the world to reach such as me (I live on the beautiful wilderness island of Tasmania, Australia) I will take your words of direct relevance, as will all those who also face this situation right now, and work extremely concertedly and energetically (even whilst appearing calm on the outside!) in prayer and restraint of passions and reactions. I kiss your hand Father you are a worldwide blessing to those who seek the true way. Christ’s humble servant, a sinner Christina Chamley.

Dear Christina, thank you for writing and thank you for asking the question. Dear me, Tasmania is very far away from us - you live as close to the South as possible, and we are far, far in the North. But Christ is One, and we are One in Him. Please pray for me and the Monastery. Christ is risen!

Dear Father. I happen to stumble upon this at a very very timely moment. I am trying to resolve finding a new job and place t live as graceful and as fast as is Gods will, so I can begin a family of my own. The most difficult challenge of this time is that I have feel an evil external type temptations, distractions, mentally and physically some years ago. Thank God its' much better today. I am not anyone special so I never understood how this came about at the most clear time in life where I very intentionally decided to get closer to God for my future and future family. Its been years and much better today, but your videos have helped make me aware of how to continue to resolve life and spiritual temptations, vexations, or just (thankfully) more minor every day confusions of one's day.
Your videos, especially regarding evil temptation or forces help me to see that some things are real that i feel and not made up, even if friends or colleagues in my working world don't experience anything like it. Again stumbling upon your videos has been very timely.
Could you pray for me and my future and ability to discern?
Much grace, peace, and so much health and joy to you and yours.

VERY hopefull words. I decidet recently to become Orthodox. I'm from Belgium and i'm married for 20 years with my Romanian husband who is Orthodox. I always had a big admiration for the Orthodox church. Now many years later i'm waiting for my Bisshop's answer for an acceptation of an entrance in the Orthodox Church. Now that all the churches are closed, my entrance will be also in delay. So patience is indeed really what i need in this crossroad of my life. But it is not always easy to stay positive. Time by time there comes moments of fear, doubts, lonelyness, because i feel fysical deconnected with the Church. In this moments it is so helpful that somebody pray for you. Please pray for me father and thank you for your very helpful videochats. Christos a înviat!!

    • @mullmonastery
      @mullmonastery  4 года назад +5

Adevarat a inviat, dear Inge! May Christ bless your path into the Church, and please do not be dispirited by this delay. If anything, take this as a gift, an as opportunity for you to repent for the sins of your past - each moment of suffering longing for the Church is a moment of repentance, and Christ will receive it as such. Think of all the decades that Christ called you and there was no answer. For a very brief while, you get to feel how He felt all that time. Grow in your love and be grateful - this is a sign of His love for you, dear one.

I worry about my soul. This video of yours has helped me today, "say yes to everything until you have only one option" [paraphrased] is a jewel. Thank you so much because it's hard when you want God's will but none of the answers are clear. God bless you.

Patience for me is to be able to wait. To wait without fear or anxiety or any bad emotions. I didn't know patience when I was younger but I do now. A mother used to bring her three-year-old to work here at my house every day once a day cares will closed. He ran all over the living room and made messes and was just generally active in interested. His mother would scream at him quickly she would also hit him on his bum. She was also pregnant. I looked at her and I said if you can't stand this now it's going to be double trouble when you have the baby. There are some things that all children are going to do and you need to have patience with him and not punish him immediately. Find something that will make him sit down and pay attention to it just like the doors that are open. I was not upset by anything he did but she was 21 and got very upset with him. She has a very short patience fuse and mine is very long because I learned the art of being able to wait comfortably until I knew what to do. Is the saying that says one and don't do nothing and I say when in doubt pray.

Thank you for this video. It has been particularly helpful to think of saying "yes" to all my options rather than denying some and pretending it is an affirmative action. I know I am late to the video, but I found it really helpful as this past year with the pandemic I have lost my job and need to decide what to do next. I feel "called" in so many directions, to a more permanent academic job, to research grants, to joining an ecovillage, to stop running from God...

i have just recently found you & i am so very glad i did!! i now bing watch my "Monk" (that is meant in kindness). And i also listen to your podcasts on Spotify while at work. Please know you do make a difference and i look forward to listening to new updates on your beautiful little monastery in Scotland.
i wanted to comment on the video today (although this video was a few months back..i am still catching up) but i think i understand what you mean about it being exhausting. i am not a monastic person but (and i thank you for this) in my every day life i have noticed little opportunities to make choices. Sometimes, even most of the times it is little things..but i have noticed that when i make the more caring, kinder or loving choice it feels Amazingly wonderful! It sometimes makes you want to burst with joy at something seemingly so little and no one else may even know it but it's wonderful. But i also noticed that some of those times is a huge battle going on in the process, a little war waging and so yes..it is exhausting and also understandable how in these small daily battles are tiring so the life of a monastic struggles this all day every day. You and your little monastery in Scotland will be in my daily prayers from now on. Thank you so much :)
P.S. Inside or outside i love your videos and there content..i do really enjoy the outside ones i guess a bit more as i enjoy the outside over inside but i also enjoy seeing your beautiful Scotland. Bless you and all yall do :)
P.S.S. i saw this video and posted this note Before i watched your video on Prayer by night..procrastination but i was able to watch it with so much clarity. Again, thank you :)

Waiting for all the doors to close but one seems like a lottery to me (and possibly too "passive"), but I do understand the sentiment of it. With any choice in life, we need to choose but also choose on time - for doors will naturally close if we don't choose on time (like missing a critical deadline - or becoming too old - or another person, waiting on us, choosing something else, etc.). Doors naturally close, but that doesn't mean those portals weren't God's will. And, sometimes when we don't choose to act, the choice will be made for us by life itself despite us- as when we only have one door left or as when we don't choose to take a certain exit off a highway, then we automatically are put in the position of staying on the highway itself - even if we didn't choose one or the other. If we don't choose to go to college, our career options may be very directed or limited after that - and sometimes one never gets the opportunity or ability to go to college after a long hiatus, etc., like if children or family become a more necessary focus. The door could easily close forever.
If a man goes to a spiritual director to ask whether he should marry a certain girl, automatically red flags should arise, as in, "Well, if you're unsure and you need to ask another man, then perhaps you are not ready for marriage." Contrastingly, a man who is in love, and is generally a spiritual man of good will and intention, probably doesn't need anyone else to tell him whether he should marry a certain girl or not - or choose a certain vocation - or whatever. He is following the truth of his heart.
I think it is okay for us to pray and discern where our heart is - where does our love ablaze in a flaming torch among choices - if more than one ministerial option (e.g., monastery X or Y; or teaching highschool or working in social ministry) are possible and equal options to give our love to, then either choice may be acceptable before God. We may have a specific understanding at times of God's will - as in, God does not want us to walk around society naked, but God may have a more general will as to whether we choose to wear blue pants or brown pants - God may leave it up to us - God may not care one way or the other.
The vice of impatience can be described as a subtle form of immoderate anger. Having patience, therefore, is to be in a position of moderation wherein our passions become subdued and under control of the virtues, especially humility, to the extent possible in our present state. When we are so moderated, and in good will, in God's grace, and knocking at the door in prayer for any answer, it is also suitable to follow after the loving yearning of one's heart/will that is also rationally guided my our God-given intellect. Therein, God's spirit is operating within us. We do God's will in the moment. It may not be the path that God keeps us on for the rest of one's life, and if not, God will open another door at another time. Nothing is lost or wasted; we learn and grow from every experience in life.

    Dear Father Seraphim,
Thank you for this "work" you are doing currently in a land far from your birth land, but close spiritually to the heart of all of us who want to be and live like a Christian.
I am from Romania and after passing 10 years on many places from this world (including UK) with my professional working service (I used to be telecomm engineer), I have returned to home, back in Romania, hoping to continue especially my spiritual life together with my brothers & sisters in Christ.
The surprise is to discover true hearts dedicated to Christ's commandments not very much here, in Romania, but sometimes on places far from where I am living currently.
I have started to watch recently one of your videos provided to me by one friend of mine and being very impressed by your words and spirit I have decided to follow up more videos from your channel. Ultimately, I have discovered that you are Romanian, too, and I was very happy to see that there are still Romanians spread all over the world which I am proud of...
I was very touched by your videos and even before discovering that you are Romanian, I have said to my spiritual Father: Father Macarie, please have a look at this video and look at this Father and monk Seraphim, although he is far from us, he is far more Christian orthodox than most of the monks, nuns, and priests from our Orthodox country.
May God bless you to continue this work, the same way like you confessed you have started, at His will. If possible, from time to time please pray for my, the brother in Chirst, Liviu-Mihai, the sinner.

Take good care, dear one, that you only apply this to moments of extreme importance. Do not allow everything to become a burden, do not say 'yes' to anything, in any context, because the weight of that can exhaust you. Only do this in very important moments of your life, when you feel the decision will have a major impact on you. And pray you heart out through the process.

I lived in Durham! It's a beautiful area. I lived in the UK for many years and I wish I could go back when I retire and spend the rest of my days but I don't think the home office it would like it. I don't know once everything is settled with my mother's estate it might be. It's one of those Crossroads.

My Dear Father .... how has God blessed us to have access to you like this. This was never possible before. There is good in everything, even the internet. I wish to purchase a prayer rope with your beautiful shells off that gorgeous island. Could you let me know how I can do this? I’m from South Australia, a little higher than Tasmania!

The same gratitude from us, dear one - thank you for your encouragement. I wanted to start making these ropes for years now, and I have been collecting shells from all the isles around, as we were going there on pilgrimage. But we never had the time, because there is so much work to do. Now, because of this lockdown, we finally could get started on making them. Take good care and stay safe.

Truly He is risen! Dear Larry, thank you for your encouragement and (all too) kind words about the work of the Monastery. We try to keep things simple and down to earth as much as possible. We know that we would simply not exist without you, all of you who have supported us. We also know that we are all going through a difficult time right now, spiritually and not only, so we must do something, we must offer something in return. We do pray. We pray all the time - we prayed before this virus crisis and we shall, by the grace of God, continue to pray after it is gone. But we wanted to do something visible, something to give a bit of courage and hope. And since we were given this camera last October (thank you, dear Rd Martin and Joan Mary), I took that as a sign that this is the time to start using it. May we all be blessed, dear one.
