"Power" is one of those gems that always lifts my mood. Thanks so much for this. You always come up with things I hadn't noticed. Two others in a similar vein are his cuts with Eden Nash, "Humble" and "Ocean." Both are complete and utter BANGERS that will live rent free in your head forever. Maybe do them together as they are both 3-minute lyric videos? Anyway, CHEERS!
Yes - if pressed, I would pick Ocean especially because others have tried and failed to identify the musical “sample” that opens and closes the song. Soundhound didn’t recognize it either. Maybe Knox can sleuth his way to an answer where others have failed. Did Ren create the sample out of whole cloth? Inquiring minds need to know!

That’s Sam, REN’s videographer behind the wheel. I believe this was the first vid he did after he went independent and since there was zero $$ to produce a video this was the idea they came up with. And it works so well.
That dude next to him is his videographer samuel perry-falvey that was with him in videos like "sick boi", "hi, ren" and "the hunger".
This is my very favorite from Ren. It contains the powerful line" through the walls I heard love dying". Gets me every time, as does "it's the voice you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope" from Hi, Ren. I like his busking with the Big Push too. They're all so talented.

I love this one. There's a really good vibe to it and the words are so relatable. I understand from an interview with Ren that he made this in a week - and that his friend in the car is Samuel. The Camera God who made most of his videos 👍🔥

One of my favorite things about Ren’s music is that he doesn’t drag out the track. Everything has a purpose. It always ends right when it should.

One fun fact about this video is he filmed it right after he left his record label with to phone cameras. He wanted to throw it back in their faces to show that he didn’t need their permission or support to promote his music and make a video of his own. So this video and song is his first step out into the world as an independent artist.
It was his management company not a record company by this time.
He was already independent since he got ill in his late teens. But this was filmed only a couple of years ago before he started recording the Sick Boi album 🙏🏼

The guy driving the car is his film buddy Samuel Perry Falvey, who filmed the video for Hi Ren, The Tales of Jenny & Screech, and others. Samuel flew out to Calgary for 5 days to work on more new live video recordings. Can’t wait! They are a dynamic duo

Ren has definitely found his power and it’s awesome that we get to enjoy the results of it. Such an upbeat but real AF song. And a really simple but fun video too.
Power is one of the first tracks I heard from Ren, just after listening to What Went Wrong (which I do recommend listening to both the first and second parts of).

I also like how he's still managing to drop in English/British terminology into his lyrics. Spoke of being on the dole (benefits) and said he was a pleb - multiple meanings in Britain from being an ass through to being a derogatory term used by the upper classes toward the lower classes. Once again the double meanings - he's speaking about being an ass who focused on himself regardless of what people think - which some would consider to be the act of a pleb. He's also playing the societal viewpoint of being somebody who was on the dole - ie poor, lower social class - and the link to the historic meaning of pleb being a derogatory term that would have been used in that exact context.

I like that the video is riding around singing in a car. Reminds me of being a teenager/college student doing the same thing, just cruising around either care-free or working through whatever I was going through.
For me art, whatever medium it is, is about the artist showing their soul and gifting the rest of us a ticket on their journey of self-discovery. Being honest is the only way an artist can be great, in my opinion. There's a lot of nice-looking images, or nice-sounding music that isn't true art because the artist isn't revealing anything about themselves to us in any way. That's just me, though. This is why I think AI-generated content isn't art.
That's why we like Ren so much. He's real with us, real with himself, and we feel shades of ourselves that resonate to his frequencies.
I could honestly watch Ren and Knox Hill all day long.

Filmed on 2 iPhones over an Afternoon with Samuel Perry-Falvey his Videographer as his Driver, to me this looks like a Big FU to the Music Industry Big Labels, that he could a write a Song and record a Video with no Budget and it could still work, and it does.
Talk about running through the emotions. It starts off like a anthem to crusing as a teenager with your buddies. Then he starts in on his past problems at home growing up. The lyrics "through the walls, I heard love dying" is just a punch in the gut.
