Out on our farm, we had a 1963 F100 and it was pretty much the same truck. We hauled big loads with it too, and it handled it just fine. Ours had a V8 292 but had the same transmission and transfer case. If you pushed into 4 low, but just paused partway between 4 low and neutral, it would go into 2 low without engaging the front end. I don't know if it was just a fluke in ours or if it was an unwritten thing with them. Our transmission went into reverse by pushing forward instead of pulling backwards so it isn't quite the same trans.
The last year for the four wheel leaf spring suspension was 2004 so that's probably the newest ford that you could do an apples to apples comparison with.
I had a 1978 F-150 with the 300 I6 and a 3-speed + overdrive. The thing was a torque monster and loved to cruise around 55 mph. Any faster than that and it was really unhappy.
The cab is from an f350. You can tell in other videos where you pop the hood that it has the larger wheel wells. It also has the f350 running boards where step in.
Power Steering Box (upgrade from 78-79?? whatever works) and Econoline Brackets and Saginaw Pump! it's what I did on a '75 manual steering to power and on my current '78 using 90's econoline for serpentine goodness! and 90's EFI Intake, Heads, and Block and standalone EFI! yup. 300 to 1996! (1996 HAD to have OBDII)
Love TFL, but for the sake of the universe, why don't you using something better than a smartphone to film videos. The quality in 1080p, especially after youtube compression, well... is acceptable. But is it a limit? I'm not asking top-tier quality. Maybe invest in a better phone or filming in a higher resolution.
That truck would be so sweet fully restored!
Nice to see David and the Happy Yak Ranch again! Looks like you all had fun!
Welcome back David! It was nice to meet you while you were out in AZ. It made my day. I hope the trip was good and the folks are doing well.
Love that old Ford!
A video with David is a good video!!!

I'm not usually a Ford guy but I'd love to have that truck :D
Welcome back David. We missed you !
Cool truck
This truck really has potential. Some suspicion and steering work along with a brake upgrade and it would be huge improvement
Best truck in the TFL fleet
Beautiful old ford

We missed David! I thought he was gonna buy the white Chevy from no payment needed

Luv that red truck!
Gotta love a 4th Gen.

The RGB stereo fits right in.
Even a lifelong chevy guy digs it
Heck Yeah David
Let's see the 72!
TUG OF WAR old vs new!
What about that square body crew cab? I wanna see more of that?
Pretty sure they have a full vid on it

The U.S. is over-infatuated with v8s, the inline sixes are so good.
I have a truck just like that but it’s a 1965 F-250 with a 352fe
Not sure if I saw a CD player in there but it might be more of a tape deck truck lol. Awesome video’s love the truck.
Great video! Also, where’s the six shooter been! I’ve missed seeing it.
All day but all we got to see what one road drive lol
That transmission is a NP 435
Or t18. How can you tell the difference?
@@flight2k5 I pretty sure 1964 and down 4x4's would use the T-18 or T-19. My 1966 F250 4x4 has a NP 435.
@@flight2k5 by looking at the side of the case
@@joeschmo5246 t18s were used in the 80s too so thsts not necessarily true
@@danatkinson6698 You are correct, it was the T-98 I was thinking of
2:53 You can get a straight six in the BMW Z4 and its Toyota Supra cousin.
There's the BMW B57 and MB OM656 diesel inline sixes atleast, but I doubt those are available in USA. BMWs have gas inline sixes too.
Hard to put these into a truck though!!! Hahaha.
I feel bad he's a Chevy guy because Ford Trucks are the strongest trucks in every generation.
Reminds me of my 85 alot can't hear anything 😂
Where's the 1990 bricknose?
Tommy, do you like this more then your 74 high boy you had.
yes it’s much better
weres the black chevy
There is no difference in transer cases between the old half tons & 3/4 tons
Where is case? i had enough
F250 tremor? Is that a death wobble reference?
New Chinese mechanical switch

They're using a quality potato...what more do you want?
