I like to imagine it just kinda wandered in at some point during the construction or renovation and no one was crazy enough to try and go in to get rid of it.

I treated him like how i treated black diablos or uragaan in world and it worked surprisingly very well, he even has the annoying roll move that stun locks you too

My friend was so mad at this boss that he called it the "stupid Golden Hypotenuse."
It’s fitting that so many people are having problems with this boss, since Real Life Hippos in the wild ARE that much of a menace despite their goofy appearance (properly raised ones in captivity are somewhat less so, but that’s about par for most animals that are raised in captivity anyway.)
Hippos are everything you'd expect from a monster. Real easy to overlook our own environnement without the proper perspective.

This stupid hippo didn't even stagger once when I fought him and in this video he seems like hes the easiest boss to stagger lol
If you are using a weapon with good poise dmg it is pretty easy to stagger him. I was using the Greatsword and if I managed to land 5 or so decent hits without downtime it would usually put him down for a critical hit. Landing the critical was a nightmare though because you have to run around and get to the correct side of his face and trigger it from a weird angle, so almost half the time it wouldn't register as a crit and my character would just do a regular r1 attack.
i was using giants crusher and staggered him like 7 times

Yep, both of them are also using their own powers. Maliketh with Destined Death and Malenia has control over rot. It's not like the final boss, who's hard only because he's getting powered up by an actual God lol.

Placidusax is the kind of guy who sleeps during the whole battle, then suddenly realises he's at 20% hp and is going to lose, and enters some mad shit ulta-instinct mode and doesn't even let the enemy hit him.

Now that I’m watching this I realize whoever programmed this Hippo made it hyper specialized against players which makes it kinda weak against other huge creatures its own size.
Much of its strategy against players involved picking you up in its mouth and chewing on you but if it can’t eat you at all it’s kinda trash.
So porcupine hippopotamus, got it.
This thing would be a good Ultraman monster
One thing I honestly dislike about these "who would win?" videos, is that terrain matters as do boss mechanics; Godfrey has half of his moves (throws) removed, God-Eating Serpent has his arena removed... I dunno it's just frustrating as the game is still programmed to try those now impossible to pull off moves, as opposed to moves that actually would do damage.

I feel that the appropriate Name for this Critter would have been "Rhinopotamus" or "Catoblepas", calling it simply "Golden Hippopotamus" is not very accurate, is very very lazy of From.
Definitely thought it would be From's version of the catoblepas when I saw it in the trailer but no, just a weird hippo...
